비전을 이용한 볼-스터드 검사 시스템에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Vision-Based Inspection System for Ball-Stud)

  • In this paper, an automatic ball-stud inspection system has been developed using the computer-aided vision system. Index table has been used to get the rapid measurement and multi-camera has been used to get the high resolution in physical system. Camera calibration was suggested to perform the reliable inspection. Image processing and data analysis algorithms for ball stud inspection system have been investigated and were performed quickly with high accuracy. As a result, inspection system of a ball stud could be used with a high resolution in real time.

냉간 비조질강을 이용한 볼 스터드의 정형가공 공정연구 (Net Shape Forming Process for Ball Stud Using High Strength Micro-Alloyed Cold Forging Steel)

  • Micro-alloyed steel or heat-treatment-free used in clean technology have been replacing for conventional quenched-and-tempered structural steels since the micro-alloyed forging steel was developed in early 1970s in Germany for saving money of heat treatment, simplified process, short delivery and good productivity. In this paper, ball stud assembled in steering system for automobile was selected to compare conventional process making heat treatment with new process using high strength micro-alloyed steel without heat treatment. The conventional process for ball stud was composed of a total of 6 steps including upsetting, forward extrusion, machining, burnishing and tread rolling with heat treatment and shot blasting. As opposed to conventional process, newly proposed process for ball stud using the clean technology without heat treatment is simplified such as forward extrusion, heading, upsetting, forming having a flange shape and tread rolling. Also net shape forming process to achieve specified process not to include machined step fur manufacturing the ball stud was applied to newly simplified process since micro-alloyed steel is difficult to be formed.

Reliability Evaluations for Shear Strength of Resistance Welded Ball Stud according to Different Cooling Methods

  • As a type of bolt with a spherical head, the ball stud is widely used as a part of a ball joint in steering or suspension systems in automobiles. Balls and studs are subjected to heat treatment suitable for each material; in particular, the shear strength of the ball stud must meet the specifications of the production company. This study evaluated the shear strength of joints according to the cooling method of ball studs subject to resistance welding. The shear stress of water cooling was higher than that of air cooling (as-received material). Note, however, th at oil cooling showed lower stress than that of as-received. When judged by standard deviation, mean, and coefficient of variation according to the arithmetic statistics and shape parameter as well as scale parameter, oil cooling is suitable.

  • Injection molding process is one of the popular manufacturing methods to produce plastic parts with high efficiency and low cost. Ball seat for automobile suspension is made by an injection molding process as a part to support pivot function of ball joint consisted of ball stud and housing. It is necessary for a ball seat to have a dimensional stability in the three dimensional inner area to be contacted with ball stud. In this paper, the dimensional stability of inner surface is indirectly analyzed by checking the difference of inner diameter around the circumferential direction and the thickness variation at the top part of ball seat. Measurement was performed by using the coordinate measuring machine and the fixture to hold ball seat. Optimization of injection molding processes such as injection time, cooling time and temperatures of cylinder barrel was derived to reduce the difference of inner diameter and the thickness variation at the top part of ball seat based on the Taguchi method.

  • In this paper, a longitudinal die insert fracture which occurred during cold forging of a high strength ball-stud with a sound die design nearly optimized empirically for relatively low strength material of SCM435 is introduced and the reason is revealed. A comparative study between SCM435 and ESW105 is quantitatively made using a thermoelastic finite element method for die structural analysis coupled with a forging simulator theoretically based on a rigid-plastic finite element method. It has been shown that the longitudinal die insert fracture caused from non-optimized value of shrink fit, emphasizing that the die optimal design is inevitable for cold forging of high strength materials.

  • With the development of computers, CAD(Computer-Aided-Design)/CAM (Computer-Aided-Manufacturing) has been increasingly applied to manufacturing processes to increase productivity, and recently studies of expert systems, a field of Al(Artificial Intelligence), are being carried out to assist process designs. In this study, an expert system for the process design of ball stud was developed. The adequacy of the developed system was examined through comparisons with actual blueprints and verification by experts. The designed process data was saved in dxf file format for transfer to AutoCAD, from which prototype process blueprints were obtained.

차량용 볼조인트의 최악 조건을 고려한 강건 설계 (Robust Design of an Automobile Ball Joint Considering the Worst-Case Analysis)

  • An automobile ball joint is the element for connecting the control arm and the knuckle arm, allowing rotational motion. The ball joint consists of the stud, plug, socket, and seat. These components are assembled through the caulking process that consists of plugging and spinning. In the existing research, the pull-out strength and gap stiffness were calculated, but we did not consider the uncertainties due to the numerical analysis and production. In this study, the uncertainties of material property and tolerance are considered to predict the distributions of pull-out strength and gap stiffness. Also, pull-out strength and gap stiffness are predicted as the a distribution rather than one deterministic value. Furthermore, a robust design applying the Taguchi method is suggested.

  • 자동차용 볼 조인트는 현가계와 조향계를 연결하는 부품으로 두 요소 사이에서 조향을 위해 회전 운동 및 직선운동이 가능하도록 돕는 기계 부품이다. 본 연구의 대상은 중대형 픽업 트럭에 사용되는 볼 조인트이다. 각 단품으로는 스터드(Stud), 소켓(Socekt), 시트(Bearing), 플러그(Plug)로 구성되어 있다. 볼 조인트의 주요 구조적 성능으로는 풀-아웃 강도 및 푸시-아웃 강도를 고려해야 한다. 이 구조적 성능들은 정해진 기준을 만족해야 하며 이를 만족시키지 못하면 보다 큰 사고를 유발할 수 있다. 볼 조인트의 설계 요구조건 만족 여부를 확인하기 위한 방법으로는 실험과 시뮬레이션 방법이 있으나 실험은 많은 시간과 비용이 소요된다. 본 연구에서는 볼조인트의 구조적 성능 예측을 위하여 모델링 소프트웨어로서 솔리드웍스(Solid Works)를, 유한요소해석 소프트웨어로서 아바쿠스(Abaqus)를 사용하였다. 유한요소해석은 2D 축대칭 모델의 정적 해석을 이용하여 요구되는 구조적 성능을 구하였다. 볼 조인트의 제작 시 발생되는 불확실한 요소를 제작 공차로 가정하였으며, 이에 따라 구조적 성능에 영향을 미치는 치수 설계 변수를 사례 연구를 수행해 파악하였다. 그리고 제작 공차를 수준 별로 정의 한 후, 사례연구를 이용해 구한 유한요소해석 결과값과 실험값을 비교하였다.

일정한 간극으로 새롭게 고안된 완압형 볼 어태치먼트를 이용한 피개의치 수복 (Overdentures using newly designed metal ball attachment containing predetermined gap with stress breakers)

  • 임플란트 지지 혹은 유지 피개 의치에서 다양한 종류의 유지 장치가 사용되어 왔다. Locator는 stud type의 유지 장치 중 하나로 널리 사용되어 왔으나 그 matrix는 탄성을 가지며 쉽게 마모되는 경향이 있어, 보철물 장착 후 빈번한 유지 관리가 필요하다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 새로운 유지 장치의 도입이 요구되었다. 본 증례에서는 새로운 ball type 유지 장치인 Air Gap attachment (AGA)를 이용한 피개의치로 수복한 증례를 보고하고자 한다. AGA는 금속으로 제작되어 다른 탄성 유지 장치에 비해 마모 저항성이 높다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 의치가 움직일 때 일정한 간극을 통해 움직임을 허용함으로써 stress breaker로의 역할이 가능하도록 하였다. 또한 기존에 식립된 임플란트와 자연치 모두 AGA와 연결이 용이하여 다른 unsplinted type의 유지 장치를 대체할 수 있다. AGA를 이용한 피개의치에서 기능, 심미 및 유지력의 면에서 만족할 만한 결과를 얻어 이를 보고하는 바이며, 장기간의 경과 관찰을 요한다.

  • In this paper, effects of major design parameters of cold forging dies on die mechanics are quantitatively investigated with emphasis on shrink fit using a thermoelastic finite element method. A ball-stud cold forging process found in a cold forging company is selected as a test process and the effects of die insert material, shrink fit, dimension of ring, partition of die inert and clamping force on effective stress and circumferential stress are analyzed.
