  • This paper shows application of optimal reconfiguration algorithm for distributing power system to KEPCO(Korea Electric Power Corporation) system for loss minimization and load balancing. That is, it suggests additional algorithm to check potential problems caused in case of theoretical algorithm being applied to real system and recover from them. Also, comparing the results of reconfiguration algorithm Tabu-Search Algorithm applied to current KEPCO distribution power system and those of Branch Exchange Algorithm using initial operation point suggested in this paper, it shows how much the results are improved in aspects of load balancing, loss reduction and calculating time.

  • The Grid is a communication service that collaborates dispersed highperformance computers so that those can be shared and worked together. It enablesthe analysis of large-scale problem with the reduction of computation time bycollaborating high performance computing resources in dispersed organizations. Thus, the present paper focuses on the efficient flow calculation using the Grid. To increaseparallel efficiency, a simple load balance algorithm for the Grid computing is proposedand applied to various aerodynamic problems.

  • This study proposes a current-balancing technique for an interleaved buck converter using a variable inductor and a snubber capacitor. The proposed scheme balances the inductor current by using the variable inductor and enables zero voltage switching under all load ranges. With the variable inductor, the ripple of inductor current changes according to load variation. In addition, a 1.6 kW prototype is built to verify the validity of the proposed scheme, and the experimental results are successfully obtained.

  • Implementation of DPI(Deep Packet Inspection) system on a general purpose multiprocessor platform is an attractive option from the implementation cost point of view, since it does not require high-cost customized hardware. Load balancing has been considered as a primary means to achieve high performance in multi processor systems. We claim, however, that in case of DPI system design simply balancing the load of each processor does not necessarily yield the highest system performance. Instead, we propose a method in which tasks are allocated to processors based on their functions. We implemented the proposed method in dual processor Linux system and compare its performance with the existing load balancing methods. Under the proposed method, one processor is dedicated to deal with interrupt handling and generic packet processing, while another processor is dedicated to DPI processing. According to experimental results, the proposed scheme outperforms the existing schemes by 60%, mainly because of the reduction of cache miss and spin lock occurrences.

  • This paper considers a new weighed model reduction method using block diagonal solutions of Lyapunov inequalities. With the input and/or output weighting function, the stability of the reduced order system is guaranteed and an a priori error bound is proposed. to achieve this after finding the solutions of two Lyapunov inequalities and balancing the full order system, we find the reduced order systems using the direct truncation and the singular perturbation approximation. The proposed method is compared with other existing methods using numerical examples.

  • The modular multilevel converter (MMC) is generally considered to be a promising topology for medium-voltage and high-voltage applications. However, in order to apply it to high-power applications, a huge number of switching devices is essential. The numerous switching devices lead to considerable switching losses, high cost and a larger heat sink for each of the switching device. In order to reduce the switching losses of a MMC, this paper analyzes the performance of the conventional discontinuous pulse-width modulation (DPWM) method and its efficiency. In addition, it proposes a modified novel DPWM method for advanced switching losses reduction. The novel DPWM scheme includes an additional rotation method for voltage-balancing and power distribution among sub modules (SMs). Simulation and experimental results verify the effectiveness and performance of the proposed modulation method in terms of its switching losses reduction capability.
