  • There have been lots of interest on service and entertainment robots. To ensure that robots work in harmony with humans, their stability and compactness are some of the key issues. Obviously, robots with fewer wheels occupy a smaller floor area compared to those with more wheels. In addition, robots with fewer wheels, whose posture stabilities are maintained by feedback control, are stable even under larger accelerations and/or higher locations of the center of mass. To facilitate controller design, it is assumed that both pitch and roll dynamics are decoupled. The dynamic equations of motion for the proposed robot are derived from the Euler-Lagrange equation. To obtain the optimal balancing control law, linear quadratic regulator control methods are applied to the linearized dynamic equations. Simulation and experimental results verify the effectiveness and performance of the proposed balancing control algorithm for a single-wheeled mobile robot.

  • In this paper a study on prestressed concrete slab bridges is presented. A design philosophy based on the concept of load balancing through prestressing is proposed in order to minimize the effects of delayed deformations due to creep. Aspects related to the stress redistribution inside these bridges for time-dependent phenomena are analyzed and discussed, by applying the principles of aging linear visco-elasticity. Prestressing is seen as an equivalent external load which counterbalances the permanent loads applied to the bridge, nullifying the elastic deflections due to sustained loads, and thus avoiding the related delayed deformations. An optimization of the structural behavior through the use of one-way prestressing is achieved. The determination of a convenient variable depth of slab bridges and the correspondent layout of tendons is considered as a useful means for applying the load balancing concept in actual cases of structures like long cantilevers or bridge decks. A case-study related to the slab bridges built 30 years ago at Jeddah in Saudi Arabia is presented and discussed, in order to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach to the conceptual design of prestressed concrete bridges.

  • In order to maintain load balancing in distributed systems in a decentralized manner, every node should obtain workload information from all the nodes on the network. It requires $Ο({v^2})$ traffic overheads, where v is the number of nodes. This paper presents a new synchronous dynamic distributed load balancing algorithm for a ( v,k+1,1)-configured network topology, which is a kind of 2k regular graph, based on symmetric balanced incomplete block design, where v equals ${k^2}+k+1$. Our algorithm needs only Ο(v√v) message overheads and each node receives workload information from all the nodes without redundancy. And load balancing in this algorithm is maintained so that every link has same amount of traffic by √v for transferring workload information.

  • In this study, simulation structure analysis was performed for the differential gear system for passenger cars as a prerequisite for the design of the balancing module. The differential gear system was modeled by using CATIA and simulation structure analysis was performed using ANSYS software. The material of the modeled differential gear system uses the mechanical properties of S45C (Q&T). In the structural analysis of the differential gear, the areas where the maximum stress and the maximum strain occurred can be identified. The maximum stress and maximum strain occurred in the pitch circle of the bevel gear. In evaluating the safety factor, it was found that sufficient safety factor was secured. Based on the analysis results for the differential gear, it is expected that it will be a good reference if we design the balancing module device.

  • This study develops a neural network for solving optimization problems. Hopfield network has been used for such problems, but it frequently gives abnormal solutions or non-optimal solutions. Moreover, it takes much time for solving a solution. To overcome such disadvantages, this study adopts a neural network whose output nodes change with a small value at every evolution, and the proposed neural network is applied to solve ALB (Assembly Line Balancing) problems . Given a precedence diagram and a required number of workstations, an ALB problem is solved while achieving even distribution of workload among workstations. Here, the workload variance is used as the index of workload deviation, and is reflected to an energy function. The simulation results show that the proposed neural network yields good results for solving ALB problems with high success rate and fast execution time.

  • The remaining features in this study using the Freecad proceeds according to the overall effect was not supported by the modeling Freecad were conducted a study to complement using the CATIA program or other commercially available. The focus of this study is that there can be obtained the stability through the center of gravity of the balancing of two parts by increasing the weight of the other magnet through a Fortuna other end of the weight of the bar, using the center of gravity. Finally, to find the optimal design of the weight and thickness of the main bar through the center of gravity balancing is the purpose of this study.

  • An engineering design problem involving Multi-Disciplinary Analysis(MDA) generally requires a large amounts of CPU time for the entire design process, and therefore Multiple Processing System (MPS) are essential to reduce the completion time. However, when applying conventional parallel processing techniques, all of the CAE S/W required for the MDA should be installed on all the servers making up NIPS because of characteristic of MDA and it would be a great expense in CAE S/W licenses. To solve this problem, we propose a Weight-based Multiqueue Load Balancing algorithm for a heterogeneous MPS where performance of servers and CAE S/W installed on each server are different of each other. To validate the performance, a computational experiments comparing the First Come First Serve algorithm and our proposed algorithm was accomplished.

  • This paper presents design guidelines for the automatic ball balancer in CD/DVD systems with varying eccentricity. In these systems, the size of balancing balls should be limited by the restricted race space so that determination of the number and mass of balls should consider the radii of the race and the balls. In addition, the effects of viscosity and friction also should be taken into account for sufficient balancing. Based on the static equilibrium conditions, the number and mass of balls corresponding to the range of varying eccentricity have been determined. Dynamic simulation with viscosity and friction shows sufficient viscosity must exist to ensure stability and friction between balls and race must be minimized to guarantee accurate balancing.

  • This paper proposes a series-connected power conversion system that integrates a photovoltaic power conditioner and a charge-balancing circuit. In conventional methods, a photovoltaic power conditioner and a cell-balancing circuit are needed for photovoltaic systems with energy storage devices, which results in a complex configuration and high cost. To overcome these problems, a series-connected DC-DC power conditioning system that integrates a photovoltaic power conditioner with a charge-balancing circuit is proposed. During the generation, the system operates as power conditioner only, whereas it operates as a cell balancing circuit during the rest time. For the analysis, the operating principle of the circuit and the controller design are done by PSIM simulation. For verification, a hardware prototype with 48-W photovoltaic modules has been implemented. Results verified that the modularized photovoltaic power conversion system with a series-connected storage successfully works with the proposed method.

  • The eccentricity of the rotor causes a rotary machine to unbalance and the balancing to correct or compensate this is very important not only for dust-proof and anti -noise design but also for stabilization and durability of the rotary machine. In this paper, for developing the balancing machine to find and compensate such eccentricity, we will propose new way of measuring eccentricity using hall effect sensor that is different from the way in a conventional balancing machine. And we will show that it is possible to make balancing machine more compactly and cheaply by experiment results using hall effect sensor to measure eccentricity. Moreover we try to control and monitor the balancing machine by personal computer through serial communication.
