The dynamic characteristics of a three phase induction motor which is applied by various unbalanced voltages are simulated and analyzed in this paper. The voltage equations and torque equation in the dq stationary reference frame for the three phase star connected induction motor are used in this analysis. MATLAB and SIMULINK are employed as a simulation tool. The dynamic characteristics of speed and torque are simulated for various unbalanced voltages, that is, (1) cases with the same unbalance voltage factor but different unbalanced voltages, (2) cases with only one unbalanced voltages but different degree of unbalance, and (3) cases with the same positive sequence voltage but different negative sequence voltages. The simulated results are compared and analyzed with each other, and also with the results of balanced voltage.
This paper presents a modeling and simulation of a grid-connected wind turbine generation system with respect to wind variations and three-phase fault in the system. It describes the modeling of the wind turbine system including the drive train model, induction generator model, and grid-interface model on MATLAB/Simulink. Case studies demonstrate that the pitch angle control is carried out to achieve maximum power extraction for wind speed variations and the duration of a fault on the system influences on the output of the wind turbine generator.

In a low speed open-type wind tunnel, a group of parallel wakes downstream of two dimensional grid model consisting of several circular cylinders were experimentally investigated to study the response of the wake flows to the acoustic excitation, in hoping to promote the understanding of the underlying mechanism behind the gross flow change due to artificial excitation. In the unexcited wake flows, the development of the individual wakes behind cylinders was almost uniform for the ratio of the spacing to the cylinder diameter of s/d.geq.1.5. For smaller s/d, however, the jet streams issued through the gaps between the cylinders became biased in one side and the cylinders had wakes of different sizes. At s/d=1.25, the gap flow directions change in time, leading to unstable wake patterns. Further reduction in s/d made this unstable flip-flopping of the jets stable. The most effective excitation frequency was found to be in the Strouhal number range of St=0.5-0.6. This frequency was related to the vortex shedding. At s/d=1.75, the excitation frequency was 2 or 4 times the vortex shedding frequency. When the flow was excited at this frequency, the vortex sheddings were energized, and pairings between neighboring vortices were generated. Also, the merging process between individual wakes was accelerated. The unstable and unbalanced wake patterns at s/d=2.15 were made stable and balanced. The unstable and unbalanced wake patterns at s/d=2.15 were made stable and balanced. For smaller spacing of s/d .leq,1.0, the acoustic excitation became less effective in controlling the flow.
In this study, we analyzed causal relationships between technology orientation and technological performance, between technological performance and commercialization speed on the government -funded R&D projects in 2009 for searching the cause of the big gap between technological success rate and commercialization success rate. In the result, technology orientation affected negatively on the technological performance, but the technological performance affected positively on the commercialization speed. These results mean that low technology oriented projects are easy to reach the selling step of products faster but they are not easy to attain a balanced income and outgo in contrast to the firms' own R&D. we found it was caused by a defect in the government's R&D support and management system.

Turbo-pumps have weak points, such as the pumping operation is unstable on the positive slope of the head curve and/or the cavitation occurs at the low suction head. To improve simultaneously both weak points, the first author invented the unique pumping unit composed of the tandem impellers and the peculiar motor with the double rotational armatures. The front and the rear impellers are driven by the inner and the outer armatures of the motor, respectively. Both impeller speeds are automatically and smartly adjusted in response to the pumping discharge, while the rotational torques between both impellers/armatures are counter-balanced. Such speeds contribute to suppress successfully not only the unstable operation at the low discharge but also the cavitation at the high discharge, as verified with the axial flow type pumping unit in the previous paper. Continuously, this paper investigates experimentally the effects of the tandem impeller profiles on the pump performances and the rotational speeds against the discharge, using the impellers whose loads are low and/or high at the normal discharge. The worthy remarks are that (a) the unstable operation is suppressed as expected and the shut off power is scarcely large in the smart control, (b) the blade profile contributes to determine the discharge giving the maximum/minimum rotational speed where the reverse flow may incipiently appears at the front impeller inlet, (c) the tandem impeller profiles scarcely affect the rotational speeds, while the loads of the front and the rear impellers are same, but (d) the impeller with the low load must run faster and the impeller with the high load must run slower at the same discharge to take the same rotational torque, and (e) the reverse flow at the inlet and the swirling velocity component at the outlet of the front impeller with the high load require making the rotational speed of the rear impeller with low load fairly faster at the lower discharge.

Abstract In this study characteristics of Al-doped ZnO thin film by HIPIMS (High power impulse sputtering) are discussed. Deposition speed of HIPIMS with conventional balanced magnetic field is measured at about 3 nm/min, which is 30% of that of conventional RF sputtering process with the same working pressure. To generate additional magnetic flux and increase sputtering speed, electromagnetic coil is mounted at the back side of target. Under unbalanced magnetic flux from electromagnet with 1.5A coil current, deposition speed of AZO thin film is increased from 3 nm/min to 4.4 nm/min. This new value originates from the decline of particles near target surface due to the local magnetic flux going toward substrate from electromagnet. AZO film sputtered by HIPIMS process shows very smooth and dense film surface for which surface roughness is measured from 0.4 nm to 1 nm. There are no voids or defects in morphology of AZO films with varying of magnetic field. When coil current is increased from 0A to 1A, transmittance of AZO thin film decreases from 80% to 77%. Specific resistance is measured at about $2.9{\times}10-2\Omega{\cdot}cm$. AZO film shows C-axis oriented structure and its grain size is calculated at about 5.3 nm, which is lower than grain size in conventional sputtering.

Internet routers forward an incoming packet to an output port toward its final destination through IP address lookup. Since each incoming packet should be forwarded in wire-speed, it is essential to provide the high-speed search performance. In this paper, IP address lookup algorithms using binary search are studied. Most of the binary search algorithms do not provide a balanced search, and hence the required number of memory access is excessive so that the search performance is poor. On the other hand, binary-search-on-range algorithm provides high-speed search performance, but it requires a large amount of memory. This paper shows an optimized binary-search-on-range structure which reduces the memory requirement by deleting unnecessary entries and an entry field. By this optimization, it is shown that the binary-search-on-range can be performed in a routing table with a similar or lesser number of entries than the number of prefixes. Using real backbone routing data, the optimized structure is compared with the original binary-search-on-range algorithm in terms of search performance. The performance comparison with various binary search algorithms is also provided.

Purpose : The purpose of this research is to propose a more efficient exercising method by measuring and comparing the movement of center of pressure (COP) while hemiplegic stroke patients perform kneeling squat exercise and squat exercise. Methods : 17 hemiplegic stroke patients were instructed to perform kneeling squat exercises and squat exercises, and the research was designed as a cross-over study. For data collection, a pressure distribution measurement platform (PDM) was used to measure the movement area, length, speed, and distance from the center of the X-axis of center of pressure. The data was then analyzed through a paired t-test. Results : Kneeling squat exercises have been found to have a significantly smaller center of pressure movement area compared to that of squat exercise(p<.001), and the center of pressure movement length of kneeing squat exercise has also been found to be relatively shorter (p<.001). Moreover, kneeling squat exercises have been found to have a significantly slower center of pressure movement speed than squat exercise (p<.001), and kneeing squat exercise center of pressure movement distance from the center of the X-axis has been found to be significantly small (p<.001). Conclusion : Kneeling squat exercises have significantly decreased amounts of center of pressure movement area, distance, and speed compared to squat exercises. Also, the center of pressure movement distance from the center of the X-axis was relatively closer. This result seems to derive from patients performing their motions with wide base surfaces while being refrained from using unstable ankle joints during kneeing squat exercise. Therefore, it can be concluded that kneeing squat exercises show relatively balanced center of pressure movements between the paralyzed and non-paralyzed sides because kneeling squats show smaller shakes in the center of pressure.

Aggregates play the skeleton and supporting role in the construction field, high-precision measurement and high-efficiency analysis of aggregates are frequently employed to evaluate the project quality. Aiming at the unbalanced operation time and segmentation accuracy for multi-class segmentation algorithms of aggregate images, a Chaotic Sparrow Search Algorithm (CSSA) is put forward to optimize it. In this algorithm, the chaotic map is combined with the sinusoidal dynamic weight and the elite mutation strategies; and it is firstly proposed to promote the SSA's optimization accuracy and stability without reducing the SSA's speed. The CSSA is utilized to optimize the popular multi-class segmentation algorithm-Multiple Entropy Thresholding (MET). By taking three METs as objective functions, i.e., Kapur Entropy, Minimum-cross Entropy and Renyi Entropy, the CSSA is implemented to quickly and automatically calculate the extreme value of the function and get the corresponding correct thresholds. The image adaptive multi-class segmentation model is called CSSA-MET. In order to comprehensively evaluate it, a new parameter I based on the segmentation accuracy and processing speed is constructed. The results reveal that the CSSA outperforms the other seven methods of optimization performance, as well as the quality evaluation of aggregate images segmented by the CSSA-MET, and the speed and accuracy are balanced. In particular, the highest I value can be obtained when the CSSA is applied to optimize the Renyi Entropy, which indicates that this combination is more suitable for segmenting the aggregate images.
Penetration rate (PR) and penetration depth (Pe) are crucial parameters for estimating the cost and time required in tunnel construction using tunnel boring machines (TBMs). This study focuses on investigating the impact of rock strength on PR and Pe through full-scale experiments. By conducting controlled tests on rock-like specimens, the study aims to understand the contributions of various ground parameters and machine-operating conditions to TBM excavation performance. An earth pressure balanced (EPB) TBM with a sectional diameter of 3.54 m was utilized in the experiments. The TBM excavated rocklike specimens with varying uniaxial compressive strength (UCS), while the thrust and cutterhead rotational speed were controlled. The results highlight the significance of the interplay between thrust, cutterhead speed, and rock strength (UCS) in determining Pe. In high UCS conditions exceeding 70 MPa, thrust plays a vital role in enhancing Pe as hard rock requires a greater thrust force for excavation. Conversely, in medium-to-low UCS conditions less than 50 MPa, thrust has a weak relationship with Pe, and Pe becomes directly proportional to the cutterhead rotational speed. Furthermore, a strong correlation was observed between Pe and cutterhead torque with a determination coefficient of 0.84. Based on these findings, a predictive model for Pe is proposed, incorporating thrust, TBM diameter, number of disc cutters, and UCS. This model offers a practical tool for estimating Pe in different excavation scenarios. The study presents unprecedented full-scale TBM excavation results, with well-controlled experiments, shedding light on the interplay between rock strength, TBM operational variables, and excavation performance. These insights are valuable for optimizing TBM excavation in grounds with varying strengths and operational conditions.
