The purpose of this study was to investigate service support programs for the work-family balance in the community. Service support programs in the community are at beginning stages of development, because it has taken about 10 years to put a self-governing system into practice in Korea. This study concentrates on service support programs developed by various service organizations in the city and does not include any rural districts. First, the developmental process of the work-family balance model and type of the service support program in the community were studied. Next, the situation of care service support was examined based on written articles. Finally, a few suggestions were made f3r work-family balance in the community. The developmental situation of work-flmily balance in Korea is in a stage which is shifting from the company-leading model to a family-company-community model. The most common type of service support program offered in the community until now has been the informal sector through relatives, neighbors or friends. However, service support programs, in the public sector by the government and in the voluntary sector by nonprofit organizations and corporations, has rapidly been growing and the number of services from each sector has also increased. Profit organizations in the private sector, such as medical and care service centers, are also now rapidly increasing. It appears that service support programs contributing to the work-family balance in the community come from a number of sectors, including public, voluntary, private and informal sectors, to suit consumer needs.
Purpose: We compared T-type and I-type canes on postural balance in 28 hemiplegic patients. Methods: Subjects were allocated randomly into two groups: a T-shape cane group (n=14) and an I-shape cane group (n=14). Before the test, subjects were trained by a physical therapist to walk with a cane for 6 weeks. The Main Outcome Measures were measured as maximal sway velocity, sway path, sway area, and partial weight bearing using a Balance Performance Monitor (BPM) and ambulation velocity using a 'Timed up and go test'. We also measured the maximal ambulation velocity. Results: The distribution of weight bearing on the affected side without the cane was 35% in the I-shape cane group and 36% in the T-shape cane group. After training, weight bearing on the affected side increased by 45% in the I-shape cane group and 40% in the T-shape cane group. With the cane held in the hand, weight bearing on the affected side in the T-shape cane group decreased by 3%. Conclusion: The I-shaped cane increased static standing balance, including hemiplegic side weight bearing. Therefore, I-shape canes can improve the balance of hemiplegic patients.
The aim of this study was to identify the type of occupational balance of college students and analyze the differences between positive or negative emotions according to degree of flow. The Experience Sampling Methods (ESM) were conducted for 12 college students using smart phones. As a result, in activities of daily living group, apathy showed the highest percentage (34%) and in over work group, flow showed the highest percentage (41%). In occupational balance group, frequency of labor and leisure activities was high but boredom was experience a lot in leisure activities. When the students experienced flow in main activities, mean score of positive emotions showed the highest value. Through this study, we identified the differences of flow experience in occupational performance based on type of occupational balance and confirmed improvement of positive emotions in activities experienced flow.
The purpose of this study was to determine the factors influencing the standing balance of independent ambulatory hemiparetic patients. The subjects of this study were 30 hemiparetic patients (18 males, 12 females) being treated as admitted or out patients at Severance Hospital Medical Center, all of whom agreed to participate in the study. In order to assure the statistical significance of the results, the paired t-test aid a Pearson's correlation were applied at the .05 level of significance. The results were as follows. 1. The difference in maintenance time of standing balance on a stable and unstable support surface was significant at the .05 level. 2. The difference in maintenance time of standing balance according to the control of visual and acoustic stimuli was significant at the .05 level. 3. The presence or absence of passive joint motion sense influenced the standing balance maintenance time. 4. There was no significant difference in the maintenance standing balance of the sound tower leg standing conditions according to spasticity, but the paretic lower leg standing conditions were significantly different (p<.05). This type of evaluation should be more widely used in the field of evaluating standing balance with hemiparetic patients. However, more extensive study and reports on various factors of standing balance are needed.

In four cylinder engine, the second order inertia force occurs due to the reciprocating parts of the cylinder. Because the magnitude of the inertia force is proportional to a square of the angular velocity of crank shaft, engine gets suffered from vibration excited by unbalanced inertia force in high speed. This vibration excited by the unbalanced inertia force can be canceled by applying a balance shaft. Balance shaft has one or more unbalance mass and rotates twice quickly than the crank shaft. In this paper, an unbalanced force caused by the rotating of unbalance mass of balance shafts was calculated. The directional equivalent stiffness and damping coefficients of the journal bearing of balance shafts was calculated. Equations of rotational vibration modes were derived using directional stiffness and damping coefficients. The dynamic stability of balance shafts was analyzed and evaluated for two type models using the equivalent stiffness and damping coefficients. An efficient procedure to he able to evaluate dynamic stability and design optimal balance shaft was proposed.

Background: Chronic ankle instability is a common injury that decreases balance and negatively affects functional movements, such as jumping and landing. Objectives: To analyze the effect of taping types and jump heights on balance with eyes open and closed during jump landings in chronic ankle instability. Design: Within-subject design. Methods: The study involved 22 patients with chronic ankle instability. They performed both double-leg and single-leg drop jump landings using three conditions (elastic taping, non-elastic taping, and barefoot) on three different jump platforms (30, 38, and 46 cm). Balance was measured using the Romberg's test with eyes open and closed. Results: Interaction effect was not statistically significant. Balance with eyes open and closed was significantly improved in both the elastic taping and non-elastic taping conditions compared to the barefoot condition. There was no significant difference according to the jump height. Conclusion: Individuals with chronic ankle instability demonstrated increased balance ability with eyes open and closed when jump landing. Elastic taping and non-elastic taping on the ankle joint can positively affect balance during landing in individuals with chronic ankle instability.
A numerical analysis is performed to evaluate mass flow balance in the heat exchanger for the dehumidifier. To improve the mass flow balance for maximum heat transfer performance, inlet, outlet and baffle are changed. Mass flow balance is evaluated by non-uniformity of flow which is the same concept with the standard deviation. Usually, there will occur many paths between the inlet and the outlet, however, it will follow shortest and low resistance ways. The uniform distribution of flow is numerically analyzed for several types of heat exchangers. Making the shortest way between the inlet and the outlet is most important factor. Two types of heat exchangers are installed in the dehumidifier and 4 cases of Type A heat exchangers and 3 cases of Type B heat exchangers are evaluated and optimized. The result of this research is applied to design heat exchanger for commercial dehumidifiers.
Purpose: This study was performed to identify the process of change, decisional balance and self-efficacy corresponding to the stage of exercise behavior using Transtheoretical Model in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Method: The study method was a survey in 100 type 2 DM patients at out-patients clinic of Y medical center from March 19, 2000 to October 30, 2000. Result: The results were as follows: The subjects were divided into five stages of exercise behavior ; 15.0% in pre-contemplation stage, 33.0% in contemplation stage, 17.0% in preparation stage, 16.0% in action stage and 19.0% in maintenance stage. The subjects in pre-contemplation stage used all processes of change in the least. "Dramatic relief(DR)", "Environmental reevaluation(ER)" and "Self reevaluation(SR)" were identified as main processes of change in contemplation stage. "Consciousness raising(CR)", "DR" were used higher than average in preparation stage. Helping relationships(HR)", "CR", "ER", "SR", "Social liberation(SL)", "Counter conditioning (CC)", "Reinforcement management(RM)", "Self iberation(SEL)" and "Stimulus control(SC)" were used higher than average in action stage. The subjects in maintenance stage used all process of change the highest except "DR"and "HR". "Cons" score of decisional balance was the highest in pre-contemplation stage, "Pros" score was the highest in action stage and "Self-efficacy" score was the highest in maintenance stage. Conclusion: This study can provide the basis of staged matching exercise program using TTM for more effective and useful intervention.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a four week unilateral isokinetic exercise program applied to ankle on the one-leg stance balance performance of ipsilateral and contralateral lower-limbs. Methods: Subjects were randomly assigned to either a right ankle training program (n=12) or a control group (n=12). The training group received unilateral ankle isokinetic exercise of the dominant side for 4 weeks, whereas control group did not. Ipsilateral and contralateral one-leg balance were measured before and after intervention using the Biodex Balance System. Results: Improvements of stability scores, such as APSI, MLSI, and OSI, from pre-test to post-test were significantly different greater for the training group when the control. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest unilateral ankle strengthening exercise transfers benefit to the untrained limb by a cross-education effect, and that this type of exercise should be considered to improve one-leg standing balance of trained and untrained lower-limbs.
