  • Maritime back-up navigation system in port approach requires a horizontal accuracy of 10 meters in IALA (International Association of Lighthouse Authorities) recommendations. eLoran which is a best back-up navigation system that satisfies accuracy requirement has poor navigation performance depending signal environments. Especially, noise caused by multipath and electronic devices around eLoran antenna affects navigation performance. In this paper, Ship based Navigation Back-up system using UAV on Interference is designed to satisfy horizontal accuracy requirement. To improve the eLoran signal environment, UAVs are equipped with camera, IMU sensor and eLoran antenna and receivers. This proposed system is designed to receive eLoran signal through UAV-based receiver and control UAV's position and attitude within Landmark around area. The ship-based positioning using eLoran signal, vision and attitude information received from UAV satisfy resilient and robust navigation requirements.

  • The vulnerability of GPS to interference signals was reported in the early 2000s, and an eLORAN system has been suggested as a backup navigation system for replacing the existing GPS. Thus, relevant studies have been carried out in the United States, Europe, Korea, etc., and especially, in Korea, the research and development is being conducted for the FOC of the eLORAN system by 2018. The required performance of the eLORAN system is to meet the HEA performance, and to achieve this, it is essential to perform ASF correction based on a dLORAN system. ASF can be divided into temporal ASF, nominal ASF, and spatial ASF. Spatial ASF is the variation due to spatial characteristics, and is stored in an eLORAN receiver in the form of a premeasured map. Temporal ASF is the variations due to temporal characteristics, and are transmitted from a dLORAN site to a receiver via LDC. Unlike nominal ASF that is obtained by long-term measurement (over 1 year), temporal ASF changes in a short period of time, and ideally, real-time correction needs to be performed. However, it is difficult to perform real-time correction due to the limit of the transmission rate of the LDC for transmitting correction values. In this paper, to determine temporal ASF correction frequency that shows satisfactory performance within the range of the limit of data transmission rates, relative variations of temporal ASF in summer and winter were measured, and the stability of correction values was analyzed using the average of temporal ASF for a certain period.

  • We develop guidelines for the quality assurance of radiation treatment planning systems (TPS) by comparing and reviewing recommendations from major countries and organizations, as well as by analyzing the AAPM, ESTRO, and IAEA TPS quality assurance guidelines. We establish quality assurance items for acceptance testing, commissioning, periodic testing, system management, and security, and propose methods to perform each item within acceptable standards. Acceptance includes tests of hardware and network environments, data transmission, software, and benchmarking as specified by the system supplier, and apply the IAEA classification criteria. Commissioning includes dosimetric and non-dosimetric items for assessing TPS performance by applying the AAPM classification criteria and the latest technical items from the IAEA. Periodic quality assurance tests include daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, and occasional items by applying the AAPM classification criteria. System management and security items include the state and network connectivity of TPS, periodic data backup, and data access security. The guidelines for TPS quality assurance proposed in this study will help to improve the safety and quality of radiotherapy by preventing incidents related to radiotherapy.

  • Safety of residents could be considered and then increased when we plan, design, and operate a city. In Korea, CPTED (Crime Prevention through Environmental Design) is currently being applied to new towns. However, it is not systemized and neither efficient, for there are no constraint provisions, and the foreign cases are not specifically customized to the current situation of the country. This means, the introduction of CPTED is an indispensable fact, but there are limits to the budget aids and actual application, for there is no legal base to support it. This study, therefore, aims to find the limits from analyzing related laws and regimes, administrative regulations, and applied cases, and to deduct improvement plans based on examined foreign cases. In this Study, the supporting system of foreign CPTED related laws and regulations was analyzed around the cases of England and U.S.A, and based on that information, the present condition and limits of CPTED related laws and regulations of Korea were deducted. As a result of this study, there were no constraint provisions to apply the design guidelines to actual planning, and there were limits on backup aid and actual application due to the lacking of analyzing the relevant area. Also, an acceptable framework must be arranged by the revision of laws and ordinances to compel the system, and link it with the CPTED certification system which will revitalize the whole system.

  • KITSAT-1 and 2 are microsatellites weighting 50kg and all the on-board data are processed by the on-board computer system. Hence, these on-board computers require to be highly reliable and be designed with tight power consumption, mass and size constraints. On-board computer(OBC) systems for KITSAT-1 and 2 are also designed with a simple flexible hardware for reliability and software takes more responsibility than hardware. KITSAT-1 and 2 on-board computer system consist of OBC 186 as the primary OBC and OBC80 as its backup. OBC186 runs spacecraft operating system (SCOS) which has real-time multi-tasking capability. Since their launch, OBC186 and OBC80 have been operating successfully until today. In this paper, we describe the development of OBC186 hardware and software and analyze its in-orbit operation performance.

  • AFLS (Adaptive front lighting system) is being applied to improve safety in driving automotive at night. Safe embedded system design for controlling head-lamps is required to improve noise robust ECU hardware and software simultaneously by considering safety requirement of hardware-dependent software under severe environmental noise. In this paper, we propose an adaptive headlight controller with a newly-designed symmetric angle sensor compensator, especially based on the proposed steering-swivel angle lookup table to determine whether the current controlling target is safe. The proposed system includes an additional backup hardware to compare the system status and provides safe swivel-angle management using a controlling algorithm based on the pre-defined lookup table (LUT), which is a symmetric mapping relationship between the requested steering angle and expected swivel angle target. The implemented system model shows that the proposed architecture effectively detects abnormal situations and restores safe status of controlling the light-angle in AFLS operations under severe noisy environment.

  • Cyberattack technology is evolving to an unpredictable degree, and it is a situation that can happen 'at any time' rather than 'someday'. Infrastructure that is becoming hyper-connected and global due to cloud computing and the Internet of Things is an environment where cyberattacks can be more damaging than ever, and cyberattacks are still ongoing. Even if damage occurs due to external influences such as cyberattacks or natural disasters, intelligent self-recovery must evolve from a cyber resilience perspective to minimize downtime of cyber assets (OS, WEB, WAS, DB). In this paper, we propose an intelligent self-recovery technology to ensure sustainable cyber resilience when cyber assets fail to function properly due to a cyberattack. The original and updated history of cyber assets is managed in real-time using timeslot design and snapshot backup technology. It is necessary to secure technology that can automatically detect damage situations in conjunction with a commercialized file integrity monitoring program and minimize downtime of cyber assets by analyzing the correlation of backup data to damaged files on an intelligent basis to self-recover to an optimal state. In the future, we plan to research a pilot system that applies the unique functions of self-recovery technology and an operating model that can learn and analyze self-recovery strategies appropriate for cyber assets in damaged states.
