Online Face Avatar Motion Control based on Face Tracking

  • In this paper, a novel system for avatar motion controlling by tracking face is presented. The system is composed of three main parts: firstly, LCS (Local Cluster Searching) method based face feature detection algorithm, secondly, HMM based feature points recognition algorithm, and finally, avatar controlling and animation generation algorithm. In LCS method, face region can be divided into many small piece regions in horizontal and vertical direction. Then the method will judge each cross point that if it is an object point, edge point or the background point. The HMM method will distinguish the mouth, eyes, nose etc. from these feature points. Based on the detected facial feature points, the 3D avatar is controlled by two ways: avatar orientation and animation, the avatar orientation controlling information can be acquired by analyzing facial geometric information; avatar animation can be generated from the face feature points smoothly. And finally for evaluating performance of the developed system, we implement the system on Window XP OS, the results show that the system can have an excellent performance.

Application of the Flame Hole Dynamics to a Diffusion Flame in Channel Flow

  • The method of flame hole dynamics is demonstrated as a mean to simulate turbulent flame extinction. The core of the flame hole dynamics involves derivation of a random walk mapping for the flame holes, created by local quenching, between burning and quenched states provided that the dynamic characteristics of flame edges is known. Then, the random walk mapping is projected to a background turbulent field. The numerical simulations are carried out with further simplifications of flame string and unconditioned scalar dissipation rate. The simulation results show how the chance of partial quenching is influenced by the crossover scalar dissipation rate. Finally, a list of improvements, necessary to achieve more realistic turbulent flame quenching simulation, are discussed.

An Empirical Approach to Evaluate Management Performance Using a Trading Area Analysis: Focus on Small and Medium-sized Retail Businesses

  • Purpose - This paper proposes measurement models to evaluate the management performance of small and medium-sized retail businesses on the basis of a trading area analysis that compares their proposed revenue to actual revenue in the trading area. Research design, data, methodology - The study proposes measurement models consisting of five stages, namely: (1) district background survey, (2) customer survey, (3) competitor survey, (4) business district survey, and (5) business performance analysis. Results - To identify business districts easily, this study preferred a minor-adjusted method based on the Euclidean distance, as it is simple to employ for the small and medium-sized businesses. This model was applied to select coffee shops in Daejeon. Results indicated that although the targeted shop was not located in an appropriate location, actual sales were higher than expected. Conclusions - Small- or medium-sized retail businesses face difficulties regarding the economies of scale and brand recognition and must choose an appropriate location to ensure management stability. However, such businesses will find it difficult to evaluate their competitive edge accurately using a trading area analysis.

3D Reconstruction of Urban Building using Laser range finder and CCD camera

  • In this paper, we describe reconstructed 3D-urban modeling techniques for laser scanner and CCD camera system, which are loading on the vehicle. We use two laser scanners, the one is horizon scanner and the other is vertical scanner. Horizon scanner acquires the horizon data of building for localization. Vertical scan data are main information for constructing a building. We compared extraction of edge aerial image with laser scan data. This method is able to correct the cumulative error of self-localization. Then we remove obstacles of 3D-reconstructed building. Real-texture information that is acquired with CCD camera is mapped by 3D-depth information. 3D building of urban is reconstructed to 3D-virtual world. These techniques apply to city plan. 3D-environment game. movie background. unmanned-patrol etc.

  • This paper presents the problem of automatically recognizing embossed or molded characters which are raised from the side wall on rubber tire. In the tire image objects have approximately the same gray-value as the background and because of the tire geometry, illumination of the surface is nonhomogenous. Therefore it is difficult to recognize the raised tire character. In this paper, for describing the process of processing three steps have been proposed: 1) MIN & MAX smoothing operation filter, 2) edge detection algorithm using modified laplacian operator, 3) noise rejection. Afterwards, segmentation is done to attain characters from tire image by projection method. The recognition of the characters in the segmented image is carried out by using multilayered neural network, which is insensitive to the noise.

  • In this paper, a real-time eye tracking method using fast face detection is proposed. Most of the current eye tracking systems have operational limitations due to sensors, complicated backgrounds, and uneven lighting condition. It also suffers from slow response time which is not proper for a real-time application. The tracking performance is low under complicated background and uneven lighting condition. The proposed algorithm detects face region from acquired image using elliptic Hough transform followed by eye detection within the detected face region using Haar-like features. In order to reduce the computation time in tracking eyes, the algorithm predicts next frame search region from the information obtained in the current frame. Experiments through simulation show good performance of the proposed method under various environments.

  • This paper presents the method for detection and tracking of multiple humans robustly in mobile platform. The perception of human is performed in real time through the processing of images acquired from a moving stereo vision system. We performed multi-cue integration such as human shape, skin color and depth information to detect and track each human in moving background scene. Human shape is measured by edge-based template matching on distance transformed image. Improving robustness for human detection, we apply the human face skin color in HSV color space.   • In this paper, a technique ot estimate center positions of the circular parts under noisy condition is presented. The circle chords are segmented from the circle with successively varying angle and weighted to reduce the center estimation errors effected by the orientations of the circle chords. The weighting factors for variable length chords are adaptively detemined according to the error contribution of each chord in center estimation. Robust estimation of the center positions of the circular parts are possible even though the edge informations are partially contaminated by the non-uniform lighting or the background textures. Computer simulations for several images which are obtained for same object under real environment y camera, show that the proposed techniqeu yields 1.85 and 2.77 of estimated error-distribution for center position and radius in mean square error, that the proposed has more robust estimation than those of the conventional methods.

  • Human observers perceive a contour where no line or edge is given (subject contour), such as the border between gratings of thin lines offset by half a cycle. Subjective contours occur in a wide variety of circumstances in nature. A common factor in all such figures in the perception of a surface(contour) occuluding part of a background, i.e. subject contours are always accompanied by subject surfaces. Some examples about these kinds of figures are given by kanizsa trangle or square. Ph;ysiological observations are reported in which the perceptual phenomenon that some simple examples of subject contours are perceived as images (gigures; contours) through physiological experiments was investgated. In this paper, we proposed a neural network extracting the induce dstimuli for the perception of subject contours based on the visual mechnism. This visual mechnism is proposed by hubel & wiesel's paper.

  • 내용을 기반으로 하는 영상검색에 있어 색상과 물체의 특징은 중요한 요소로서, 지금까지의 검색 기법들은 이들을 중심으로 연구가 진행되어 왔으며, 이들을 추출하기 위해서는 color 영상에서의 배경과 물체의 분리는 선행되어야 할 중요한 과제이다. color 영상에서 물체를 분리 하고자 하는 여러 가지 시도가 있었으나, 대부분 clustering 에 준하고 있으며, 처리시간이나 결과에 있어서 그다지 좋은 효과를 내지 못하는 것도 사실이다. 따라서, 영상검색을 위한 물체의 분리 기법으로서는 적합하지 않다. 본 논문에서는 물체가 영상의 중심에 주로 위치한다는 점에 착안한 방법을 응용하여 영상의 외곽에 존재하는 색상뿐만 아니라 명암까지 분석하여, 배경을 구성하는 화소들의 색상 및 명암과 동일하지 않은 색상들로 이루어진 부분을 물체로 판단, 추출하는 기법에 대해 설명하고, edge를 추출해낸 영상의 정보와 합성하여 최적의 물체를 찾아 검색을 하는 기법에 대하여 기술하였다.
