  • The intake swirl motion, as one of dominant effects for an engine combustion. is very effective for turbulence enhancement during the compression process in the cylinder of 2-valve engine. Because the combustion flame speed is determined by the turbulence that is mainly generated from the mean flow of the charge air motion in intake port system. This paper describes the experimental results of swirl flow and combustion characteristics by using the oil spot method and back-scattering Laser Doppler velocimeter (LDV) in 2-valve single cylinder transparent LPG engine using the liquid phase LPG injection. For this. various intake port configurations were developed by using the flow box system and swirl ratios for different intake port configurations were determined by impulse swirl meter in a steady flow rig test. And the effects of intake swirl ratio on combustion characteristics in an LPG engine were analyzed with some analysis parameters that is swirl ratio. mean flow coefficient, swirl mean velocity fuel conversion efficiency. combustion duration and cyclic variations of indicated mean effective pressure(IMEP). As these research results, we found that the intake port configuration with swirl ratio of 2.0 that has a reasonable lean combustion stability is very suitable to an $11{\ell}$ heavy-duty LPG engine with liquid phase fuel injection system. It also has a better mean flow coefficient of 0.34 to develope a stable flame kernel and to produce high performance. This research expects to clarify major factor that effects on the design of intake port efficiently with the optimized swirl ratio for the heavy duty LPG engine.

  • Since the publication of Alamouti's famous space-time block code, various quasi-orthogonal space-time block codes (QSTBC) for multi-input multi-output (MIMO) fading channels for more than two transmit antennas have been proposed. It has been shown that these codes cannot achieve full diversity at full rate. In this paper, we present a simple feedback scheme for rich scattering (flat Rayleigh fading) MIMO channels that improves the coding gain and diversity of a QSTBC for 2$^n$ (n=3, 4, ${\cdots}$) transmit antennas. The relevant channel state information is sent back from the receiver to the transmitter quantized to one or two bits per code block. In this way, signal transmission with an improved coding gain and diversity near to the maximum diversity order is achieved. Such high diversity can be exploited with either a maximum-likelihood receiver or low-complexity zero-forcing receiver.

  • We demonstrate an 80km-reach 64-channel DWDM-PON based on wavelength-locked F-P LDs by changing the position of the C-band BLS for upstream channels from the CO to the RN. It mitigates the necessity of the high power C-band BLS and its handling problems. It also reduces back scattering induced penalty. We obtained less than $10^{-6}$ PLRs in all 128channels through 80km SMF. We also demonstrate a 240km-reach DWDM-PON based on wavelength-locked F-P LDs by adding a bidirectional erbium-doped fiber amplifier(EDFA). We show packet-loss-free transmission in all 128channels at 125 Mb/s per channel over 240km SMF We report the detuning effect of arrayed waveguide gratings(AWGs) and crosstalk effect in the implemented system. We Propose an architecture of a next generation defense wire communication system with the demonstrated long-reach DWDM-PON.

  • This paper proposes a windowing method to reduce noise effect and bit synchronization error caused by tolerance of a tag-response signal for ISO/IEC 18000-6 type-B readers. A tag response signal has very weak power because of a back-scattering modulation scheme and thus may be sensitive to noise. In addition, bit tolerance admitted in a tag response signal requires robust timing synchronization because it affects readers' detection performance. To reduce the two undesirable effects in a tag signal, we acquire bit transition position by using variable windows from over-sampled data, and average whole data in one bit duration. With a hardware system adopting the proposed method, we tested and verified its performance.
