  • To develop design and evaluation technologies of automotive seat frames, structural analysis and fatigue tests have been performed. Under the back moment loading condition, the numerical simulation yielded the maximum stress over the yield strength at the side frame bracket. To measure the stresses under the test condition, strain gauges were attached on some weakest points of the side frames. the measured strains are in good agreements with the CAE results. On the other hand, fatigue tests have been performed using the side frame bracket specimens made of various welding types to estimate their durabilities. From the fatigue test results and the analysis ones, it was recommended that the welding position of the bracket should be moved upward.

  • In this paper, a three-phase AC-DC high step-up converter is developed for application to microscale wind-power generation systems. Such an AC-DC boost converter prossessess the property of the single-switch high step-up DC-DC structure. For power factor correction, the advanced half-stage converter is operated under the discontinuous conduction mode (DCM). Simulatanously, to achieve a high step-up voltage gain, the back half-stage functions in the continuous conduction mode (CCM). A high voltage gain can be obtained by use of an output-capacitor mass and a coupled inductor. Compared to the output voltage, the voltage stress is decreased on the switch. To lessen the conducting losses, a low rated voltage and small conductive resistance MOSFETs are adopted. In addition, the coupled inductor retrieves the leakage-inductor energy. The operation principle and steady-state behavior are analyzed, and a prototype hardware circuit is realized to verify the performance of the proposed converter.

  • To reduce farmer's stress from solar radiation and ultraviolet radiation(UV), the sunshade hat with a large brim and special structure for ventilation was developed and tested with manikin heads outdoors at previous study(Kim and Choi, 2002). To evaluate the protection efficiency of the sunshade hat, human trial test was performed at outdoors. The results were as follows; Skin temperatures(7 sites), heart rate, temperature inside the hats, temperature and relative humidity inside clothing on the back in wearing developed sunshade hat were significantly lower than those in wearing the controlled hat. In subjective sensation, subjects answered to feel significantly hotter, more humid and more uncomfortable in wearing the controlled hat. But relative humidity inside the hats was significantly higher in wearing developed hat. In rectal temperature, there were no significant differences between two hats.

  • Objectives : This study aims to research the effect of oriental psychotherapy and treatments for reduction of Psychosomatic disorder symptoms caused by maladjustment of interpersonal relationship. Methods : We treat a patient with Oriental medical treatment (acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping and aroma therapy, oriental psychotherapy and Herb-medication) and follow up the changes of stress index for 3 times per 8 days. Results & Conclusions : After oriental psychotherapy and treatments, clinical symptoms of the patient were improved and the patient overcoming psychosomatic disorder can go back to the workplace. It is suggested that oriental psychotherapy and treatments are effective on psychosomatic disorder.

  • To meet demand of big capacity and high speed rotation for washing machine, more stress from bending and twisting are complexly loaded onto the shaft supporting the horizontal drum, causing problems in fracture strength and fatigue life. Shafting system is mainly divided into flange and shaft. Flange is located between the drum and shaft, transferring power from the shaft to drum, and acting as a supporter of the back of the drum. Because section of flange has various design factors according to configuration of flange, the optimum conditions can’t be easily determined. Using a design of experiment (DOE), this study was performed investigating the interaction effect between factors as well as the main effect of the each design factor under bending and twist and proposed optimum condition using center composition method among response surface derived from regression equation of simulation-based DOE.

  • The objective of this paper is to examine the detection limit, growth characteristics and notch curvature radius in short crack problem. Measurement techniques such as ultrasonic method and back-face strain compliance method were adapted. The fatigue crack growth rate of the short crack is slower than that of a long crack for a notched specimen. The short crack is detected effectively by ultrasonic method. A short surface crack occurs in the middle of specimen thickness and is transient to a through crack when maximum crack depth is larger than the notch curvature radius.

  • This paper reviews many of the design considerations surrounding the topic of tiedback landslide suppressor walls primarily for soils app1ications. The design requires combining knowledge of many aspects of soil mechanics and geology to obtain a design a wall that fits site specific conditions. Many of the aspects necessary to complete the design are stil1 not comprehensively studied or understood. This paper provides an overview of the more traditional aspects of tieback wall design and a discussion of newer issues such as suppressor wall earth pressures and rotation of stresses due to tiebacks. An overview is also provided regarding the effect of seismic forces.

  • In this paper, a new control scheme of Class-E inverter for reducing the crest factor of electronic ballasts for fluorescent lamps using Pulse-Frequency-Modulation (PFM) is introduced The lifetime of the lamps is guaranteed by decreasing the lamp crest factor and voltage stress of the switch is significantly decreased by a new scheme although conventional Class-E inverter is used in this paper The proposed PFM control scheme doesn't used any auxiliary circuit. The proposed control strategy is executed by feeding back the input current. and the Zero-Voltage-Switching (ZVS) is ensured by operating beyond resonant frequency. Therefore, the control principles of proposed method are explained in detail and its validity is verified through several simulated results.

  • Metallic bipolar plate for molten carbonate fuel cell(MCFC) is composed of the shielded slot plate and the center plate. Among these, the center plate plays an important role in gas sealing. Therefore, manufacturing of the center plate is considered one of the key issues in MCFC. The center plate is manufactured by bending process. In bending process, springback and recoiling are two main problems. By using the modified punch shape with 'step', springback and recoil are reduced. The aim of this article is to find the effect of modified punch shape. So, the bending stress along thickness direction and material direction were investigated using FEM.
