Breeding of Bivoltine Breeds of Bombyx mori L Suitable for Variable Climatic Conditions of the Tropics

  • The success of rearing with presently available conventional bivoltine is unpredictable in some seasons of the tropical regions due to highly fluctuating adverse climatic conditions. Thus, in order to popularize bivoltine breeds in tropical parts of India, it is very much essential to have a bivoltine breed(s), which can give stable cocoon crop under variable environments. With this objective a breeding programme was undertaken to improve the survival trait in bivoltine silkworm by introducing multivoltine genes into bivoltine through back crossing. Resultant bivoltine lines showed significantly higher survival in compared to the receptor (Bivoltine) parent and control bivoltine breed. Esterase isozyme analysis revealed similar banding pattern in the developed bivoltine and in the donor multivoltine, which predicts the introgression of multivoltine character into evolved bivoltine.

  • The aim of this study was to generate systemic data for the aquatic plant distribution according to water depth and crossing slope in the shoreline. The results of this study were as follows; 1. Anxiety to 0 near area Bidens frondosa, Scirpus tabernaemontani, Carex dispalata etc. total class 21 observe, and Phragmites communis, Iris pseudoacorus etc. class 6 of anxiety 0-70cm extent examined. Class 21 of anxiety observed all such as Bidens frondosa, Scirpus tabernaemontani, Carex dispalata in near area to 0, and Phragmites communis, Iris pseudoacorus etc. class 6 of anxiety 0-70cm extent examined. Anxiety 70-100cm extent Nymphoides indica, Ttapa japonica etc.. class 2 appeared to line Zizania latifolia, Typha angustata back 2 papers, 130cm and examined that Nelumbo nucifera was limit anxiety state 230cm. 2. Aquatic plants of Phragmites communis, Zizania latifolia, Typha angustata etc. range mainly to gentle gradient of slant 10 degree low and distribution pattern was ranging by Zizania latifolia, Typha angustata, Phragmites communis period of ten days from deepwater place. Nelumbo nucifera was forming become independent stock keeping away invasion of plant that ability to breed was different because was prosperous. Slant 10 bores was growing near sleep in been strange steep slope earth and distribution of emerged plant appeared punily and emerged plant and swampy land plant were ranged extensively in gentle gradient of 10 degree low. 3.   • As a result of analyzing the floor plan shown in the three drafts, there were a great deal of differences in composing the space of the inner main hall. The inner room facing to the east with the arrangement crossing the inner floor at right angles in the 'Baekdangguje Draft' faces to the south in the east or west in front of the main house thereafter. This represents that it reflects the intent of the owner of the architecture emphasizing the size increase and ceremonies of the main house in the 'ㅁ shape', which has changed to the directions of easily accommodating the Confucian ceremonial activities in the floor plan of the inner house as the size of the main house was gradually increasing from 24 sections to 30 or 38 sections. The expansion in the size of main house further divided the functions of floor into one for daily life and the other for ceremonies as well. In other words, the 30 Sections in Yijeong Draft as being the first planned draft for reconstruction had a hall for memorial services in the main hall of the inner house, whereas the 'Draft with 38 Sections' as being the second planned draft for reconstruction was planning a room with a floor (two sections of Bangdang) for memorial purpose in the back of the inner main hall. The variations in the guest house (or space for men) shown in the drafts confirms the establishment of space for men as the size of the main house increases. We can see the change that a large guest house is placed over the south and in the south and east of the main house as the number of main house increases by 30 sections or 38 sections. Especially, a guest house with a wide space in a 'ㄴ shape' is arranged from the south of main house to the east wing in the Draft with 38 Sections. In addition, the backward sections are advanced in the front and back of guest house in the drafts with 30 and 38 sections, while a back floor or a back floor connecting to the back room or sleeping room or inner house is installed in the backward sections.

Effects of new construction technology on performance of ultralong steel sheet pile cofferdams under tidal action

  • Cofferdams made of teel sheet piles are commonly utilized as support structures for excavation of sea-crossing bridge foundations. As cofferdams are often subject to tide variation, it is imperative to consider potential effects of tide on stability and serviceability of sheet piles, particularly, ultralong steel sheet piles (USSPs). In this study, a real USSP cofferdam constructed using new construction technology in Nanxi River was reported. The design of key parts of USSP cofferdam in the presence of tidal action was first introduced followed by the description of entire construction technology and associated monitoring results. Subsequently, a three-dimensional finite-element model corresponding to all construction steps was established to back-analyze measured deflection of USSPs. Finally, a series of parametric studies was carried out to investigate effects of tide level, soil parameters, support stiffness and construction sequence on lateral deflection of USSPs. Monitoring results indicate that the maximum deflection during construction occurred near the riverbed. In addition, measured stress of USSPs showed that stability of USSP cofferdam strengthened as construction stages proceeded. Moreover, the numerical back-analysis demonstrated that the USSP cofferdam fulfilled the safety requirements for construction under tidal action. The maximum deflection of USSPs subject to high tide was only 13.57 mm at a depth of -4 m. Sensitivity analyses results showed that the design of USSP cofferdam system must be further improved for construction in cohesionless soils. Furthermore, the 5th strut level before concreting played an indispensable role in controlling lateral deflection of USSPs. It was also observed that pumping out water before concreting base slab could greatly simplify and benefit construction program. On the other hand, the simplification in construction procedures could induce seepage inside the cofferdam, which additionally increased the deflection of USSPs by 10 mm on average.

Breeding of 'Jinmani' Cultivar of Gomchwi with Disease Resistance, High Quality and Yield

  • Gomchwi using stuffed leaves is many cultivated for 'Gondalbi(Ligularia stenocephala)' among Gomchwi species. 'Gondalbi' species like to be cultivation on farm because of low the incense and the bitter taste, and high yield. But 'Gondalbi' caused to curtail yield that susceptibility of powdery mildew disease and shriveling and death of plant on summer season. To solve this problems, we crossed a Gomchwi and 'Handeari-gomchwi' to have resistance of powdery mildew disease and high yield. A new Gomchwi cultivar 'Jinmani' was bred by crossing between Gomchwi (Ligularia fischeri (Ledeb.) Turcz.) and Handaeri-gomchwi (Ligularia fischeri var. spiciformis Nakai). The selection and investigation of growth and yield characteristics were conducted from 2007 to 2020 in field and greenhouse of Highland Agriculture Research Institute, NICS, Rural Development Administration. The color of petiole ear was purple. trichome of petiole and leaf back non-existed, and luster of leaf back existed. Density of leaf vein was 4 degree among 1-5 degree in a newly developed cultivar 'Jinmani'. Plant height, leaf length, leaf width and petiole length were 55.7, 21.8, 22.2, and 33.9 cm, respectively in the 2nd year of growth characteristics. Plant size was similar with that of 'Gommany'. Bolting and flowering time were Aug. 5 and Sept. 5, respectively, and Bolting and flowering time of 'Gommany' showed similar to Aug. 8 and Sept. 1, respectively. 'Jinmani' showed higher number of leaves (202 ea.) per plant compared to 'Gommany' (159 ea.). Furthermore, yield was 67.9% higher in 'Jinmani' (2,569 g/plant) than in 'Gommany' (1,530 g/plant). 'Jinmani' showed lower leaf thickness (0.66mm) than 'Gommany' (0.69 mm), and consequently showed more hardness in leaf characteristics (25.1 kg/2) compared to 'Gommany' (24.3kg/cm2). 'Jinmani' showed similar strong resistance compared to 'Gommany' in the susceptibility of powdery mildew disease.

The rate-determining step in the dark state recovery process in the photocycle of PYP

  • The last step in the photocycle of photoactive yellow protein (PYP) is a spontaneous recovery of the dark state from the active state in which the p-coumaric acid chromophore is thermally isomerized, concomitantly with the deprotona- tion of the chtomophore and the refolding of the protein moicty. For the purpose of understanding the mechanism of the thermal back-isomerization, we have investigated the rate-determining step by analyzing mutant PYPs of Met100, which was previously shown to play a major role in facilitating the reaction (1). The mutation to Lys, Leu, Ala, or Glu decelerated the dark state recovery by 1 to 3 three orders of magnitude. By evaluating temperature-dependence and pH-dependence of the kinetics of the dark state recovery, it was found that the retardation by mutations resulted from elevation of the activation enthalpy ( H$\^$┿/) and that the pKa of the chromophore, which was affected by the mutation, is in a linier correlation with the amplitude of the rate constants. It was, therefore, deduced from the correlation that the free energy for crossing the activated state in the dark recovery process is proportional to the free energy for the deprotonation of the chromophore, identifying the rate-determining step as the deprotonation of the chromophore. Compact Circularly Polarized Composite Cavity-Backed Crossed Dipole for GPS Applications

  • In this paper, we present a circularly polarized (CP) composite cavity-backed crossed dipole antenna for global positioning system (GPS) applications. We produce the CP radiation by crossing two dipoles through a $90^{\circ}$ phase delay line of a vacant-quarter printed ring, which also has a broadband impedance matching characteristic. Two techniques, insertion of meander lines in the dipole arm and arrowhead-shaped trace at its end, are employed to reduce the sizes of the primary radiation element. The compact radiator is backed by a cavity reflector to achieve a wide CP radiation beamwidth. The proposed antenna exhibits a measured bandwidth of 1.450~1.656 GHz for a voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) < 2 and 1.555~1.605 GHz for AR < 3-dB. At 1.575 GHz, the antenna has a gain of 7 dBic, a frontto-back ratio of 27 dB, AR of 1.18 dB, and 3-dB AR beamwidths of $130^{\circ}$ and $132^{\circ}$ in the x-z and y-z planes, respectively.

A Development of Fuzzy Logic-Based Evaluation Model for Traffic Accident Risk Level (퍼지 이론을 이용한 교통사고 위험수준 평가모형)

  • The evaluation of risk level or possibility of traffic accidents is a fundamental task in reducing the dangers associated with current transportation system. However, due to the lack of data and basic researches for identifying such factors, evaluations so far have been undertaken by only the experts who can use their judgements well in this regard. Here comes the motivation this thesis to evaluate such risk level more or less in an automatic manner. The purpose of this thesis is to test the fuzzy-logic theory in evaluating the risk level of traffic accidents. In modeling the process of expert's logical inference of risk level determination, only the geometric features have been considered for the simplicity of the modeling. They are the visibility of road surface, horizontal alignment, vertical grade, diverging point, and the location of pedestrain crossing. At the same time, among some inference methods, fuzzy composition inference method has been employed as a back-bone inference mechanism. In calibration, the proposed model used four sites' data. After that, using calibrated model, six sites' risk levels have been identified. The results of the six sites' outcomes were quite similar to those of real world other than some errors caused by the enforcement of the model's output. But it seems that this kind of errors can be overcome in the future if some other factors such as driver characteristics, traffic environment, and traffic control conditions have been considered. Futhermore, the application of site's specific time series data would produce better results.

Design and Torque Ripple Analysis of Brush-less DC Motor According to Delta Winding Connection

  • In this study, we describe the design method of a Brush-less DC (BLDC) motor with delta winding connection. After designing delta winding connection model with the $60^{\circ}$ flat-top region of the Back Electro-Motive Force (BEMF), an ideal current source analysis and a voltage source analysis, with a 6-step control, were conducted primarily employing Finite Element Method. In addition, as a current controller, we considered the Current Regulator with PI controller using Simulink for the comparison of torque characteristics. When the input current is controlled, the switching regions and reference signals are determined by means of the phase BEMF zero-crossing point. In reality, the input current variation depends on the inductance as well as input voltage, and it causes a torque ripple after all. Therefore, each control method considered in this research showed different torque ripple results. Based on the comparison, the causes of the torque ripple have been verified in detail.

  • Bridge - Treading was a flok festival that was held on the night of the 1st full moon of the lunar new years. Men and women, both young and old, took pan in it in the belief that crossing a bridge, or bridges, back and forth, the same number of times as the number of years they were old, on this night would prevent all types of leg and foot ailments from occurring throughout the coming year. The practice was carried on mainly around the Seoul central region of Korea. Though it has now largely disappeared, it has been reatores in the Yeoju area. According to the Korean almanac and other chronicles, it was once practiced throughout the land. It is in the preserved was brige-treading festival of yeoju, however, that both the original form, transmission, and function are clarified and brought to light. In this regard, when compares to similar festivals of other region such as Songpa and Kwacheon, it is found that of Yeojo has a special characteristic. Accompanied by folksongs, music, and dance, this was not a religions festival in the strict sense, but rather an annual custom filled with mirth and merriment that formed an integral part of Korean folk culture.
