Effect of Abnormal Grain Growth and Heat Treatment on Electrical Properties of Semiconducting BaTiO3Ceramics

  • Effect of abnormal grain growth and heat treatment time on the electrical properties of donor-doped semiconductive BaTiO$_3$ceramics was examined. La-doped BaTiO$_3$ceramics was sintered at 134$0^{\circ}C$ for different times from 10 to 600 min in order to change the volume fraction of the abnormal grains in samples. As a result, samples with different volume fraction of abnormal grain growth from 22 to 100% were prepared. The samples were annealed at 120$0^{\circ}C$ for various times. The resistivity of the sam-ples at room and above Curie temperature was examined. The complex impedance measurement as functions of the volume fraction of abnormal grains and annealing time was conducted. Separation of complex impedance semicircle was observed in a sample in which abnormal and fine grains coexist. The results are discussed from a viewpoint of microstructure-property relationship.

Highly donor-doped $Ba_{1-x}$$La_x$Ti$O_3$ ceramics

  • Sol-gel processing of BaTiO$_3$ ceramics doped with La(0.01-1.00 at.%) were prepared from metal barium, titanium n-butoxide and lanthanum isopropoxide. Characterization of the sol-gel-derived powder using XRD, SEM is also reported. The obtained results suggested that insulator to semiconductor transition for highly donor-doped barium titanate was closely related to the incorporation of donor into the grains and to the resultant grain size, which were significantly affected by the sinterability of BaTiO$_3$ powders and sintering conditions used.

  • (Ba.Sr)TiO$_3$(BST) ceramics were fabricated with different Ba/Sr ratios and the str dielectric properties of the BST bulk ceramics were investigated. As the Ba/sr ratios dielectric constant decreased. (Ba$_{0.7}$Sr$_{0.3}$)TiO$_3$ (BST(70/30)) showed a maximum dielec value of $\varepsilon$$_{r}$=8.856, this showed that the decrease of Ba/Sr ratios had made BST thin dielectrics. Targets were fabricated and made into film by PLD process and the thin film by PLD process have good stoichiometry with the targets.rgets.

BaTiO3가스센서 감지물의 제조와 특성 연구 (Fabrication and Characteristics of Sensing Materials for BaTiO3 Gas Sensors)

  • BaTiO$_3$ 분말에 흑연 분말을 첨가하여 BaTiO$_3$계 가스센서용 다공성 감지물을 제조하였으며, 이 감지물의 결정구조와 미세구조를 연구하였다. 이 감지물 소성체는 정방정 perovskite 결정구조를 가지고 있었다 흑연 분말의 첨가량이 증가함에 따라 소성체의 기공도가 증가하였다. 이것은 소성 시 흑연 분말과 산소가 발열반응하여 CO 및 $CO_2$ 가스를 생성하고, 이 가스가 휘발하였기 때문이라고 생각된다. 제조한 BaTiO$_3$계 소성체는 대기에서 측정한 저항과 CO 가스에서 측정한 저항이 고온( >∼20$0^{\circ}C$)에서 큰 차이를 나타내고 있으며 온도가 증가함에 따라 차이가 커짐을 관찰하였다. 소성체 기공도의 증가에 따른 반응 site의 증가로 인하여 소성체의 표면흡착기인 $O_2$$^{-}$와 CO 가스의 반응과, 소성체에 있는 $O^{-}$와 CO 가스의 반응이 활발하기 때문에 CO 가스의 민감도가 크게 증가하였다. 본 연구에서 제조된 다공성 BaTiO$_3$계 세라믹스는 CO 가스센서의 감지물 재료로써 유망하다고 생각된다.

  • $(1-x)BaTiO_3-x(Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5})TiO_3$ ($0.01{\leq}x{\leq}0.10$) ceramics were fabricated with muffled sintering by a modified synthesis process. Their positive temperature coefficient of resistivity (PTCR) characteristics were investigated systematically. All specimen showed a perovskite structure with a tetragonal symmetry. Both the lattice parameter of a and c axes were slightly decreased with increasing $(Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5})TiO_3$ (BNT) content. Grain growth was achieved when the incorporated BNT was increased to 6 mol% and the inhibition of grain growth is considered to be due to the appearance of Ba vacancy ($V^{"}_{Ba}$) in the $(1-x)BaTiO_3-x(Bi_{0.5}Na_{0.5})TiO_3$ ($0.08{\leq}x$). With 4 mol% BNT addition, room temperature resistivity decreased to $48 \Omega{\cdot}cm$ and a resistivity jump ($\rho_{max}/\rho_{min}$) was as high as $1.1{\times}10^4$, respectively. Curie temperature was also increased to $171^{\circ}C$ with increasing BNT content.

  • $Li_{2}CO_3$ doped $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}TiO_3$ ceramics were fabrication by sol-gel method. Sintering temperature must be suited to the LTCC technology. Structure and dielectric properties were investigated for effect of $Li_{2}CO_3$ dopants at BST. Structure of $Li_{2}CO_3$ doped $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}TiO_3$ ceramics were dense and homogeneous with almost no pore. Relative permittivity was decreased and dielectric loss was increased with increasing $Li_{2}CO_3$ doping rations. In the case of the 3wt% $Li_{2}CO_3$ doped $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}TiO_3$ ceramics sintered at $900^{\circ}C$, relative permittivity and dielectric loss were 907 and 0.003 at 100 kHz.

ATi$O_3$단순 페롭스카이트의 결함구조 (Defect Chemistry in Simple ATi$O_3$Perovskite Ceramics)

  • 본 논문에서는 ATi$O_3$(A=Ca, Sr, Ba) 조성을 갖는 단순 페롭스카이트 구조에서 생성되는 격자결함 구조에 대하여 고찰하였다. 페롭스카이트 구조는 고충전밀도를 갖기 때문에 프렌클 결함은 고려되지 않았다. 쇼트키결함이나, 고유전자결함도 자연적으로 포함된 억셉타 불순물 농도에 비하면 무시할 정도로 적은 양이다. 실제적으로 전기적 특성에 영향을 주는 것은 전하적 결함을 발생하는 aliovalent 불순물이다. 삼성분계이기 때문에 양이온간의 비화학양론이 발생하며 BaTi$O_3$나 SrTi$O_3$에서 수백 ppm이내의 AO나 Ti$O_2$의 용해도가 관찰되나, CaTi$O_3$에서는 상당량의 CaO와 $TiO_2의$ 용해가 가능하다.
