  • In this study, a suitable algorithm for each BRT stop type is presented through the network construction and algorithm design effect analysis through the LISA, a traffic signal program, for the BRT stop type in the BRT Design Guidelines, Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs, 2010.6. It was. The phase insert technique is the most effective method for the stop before passing the intersection, the early green technique for the stop after the intersection, and the extend green technique for the mid-block type stop. The extension green technique is used only because it consists of BRT vehicles, general vehicles and pedestrians. Analyzed. After passing through the intersection, the stop was analyzed as 56.4 seconds for the total crossing time and 29.8 seconds for the delay time. In the mid-block type stop, the total travel time of the intersection was 40.5 seconds, the delay time was 9.6 seconds, the average travel time of up and down BRT was 70.2 seconds, the delay time was 14.0 seconds, and the number of passages was 29.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze traffic flow characteristics according to the market penetration rate (MPR) of autonomous vehicles (AV) on road sections where bus rapid transit (BRT) is actually operating. Furthermore, the maximum traffic volume was set through estimation of future traffic demand, and traffic flow characteristics were analyzed through traffic simulation for each scenario considering of a combination of BRT introduction and AV's MPR. To test statistical significance, Kruskal-Willis test and Jonckheere-Terpstra test were used to examine the impact of the market penetration rate of Autonomous vehicles on travel time and delay time etc. At the same time, the existence of the order relationship among travel time data according to the market penetration rate of autonomous vehicle was examined. As a result of the analysis, it was founded that the travel time significantly decreased as the MPR of AV increases in both intermittent flow and continuous flow environments. In particular, in the case of continuous flow, the law of increasing returns was satisfied in the effect of increasing travel speed and reducing travel time as the MPR of AV increases. The results of this study are expected to be used as a basic information for design plans for road reconstruction and space utilization after the commercialization of AV in the future.

  • To alleviate the demand on private car that is constantly increasing, Busan Metropolitan City (BMC) has established Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) to revitalize public transportation. But there are no unified lane system between BRT and general bus stations, which makes off-lane turning general bus to contribute to congestion. And as the bottleneck phenomenon at entrance/exit accelerates the congestion, there has been huge dissatisfaction among commuting drivers. Therefore, this study identifies efficient methods to operate better through measuring civilian awareness. We evaluate both satisfaction and drawbacks on BRT service with Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA). We first distinguish the groups by the awareness on BRT and their main transit usage, and then clarify the difference between the groups. And as a result, the group who is positive to BRT and uses buses often demands improvement in bus indoor comfort and curbing jaywalking. On the other hand, group who is negative to BRT and uses private cars often demands improvement in lane changing and the moving speed of private cars. We next examines the groups with MDPREF, one method of Multidimensional Scaling (MDS). And we have clarified that the evaluating criteria and the individual attributes of the groups corresponds very well.

  • PURPOSES : The lack of details of design guideline for zig-zag shaped section approaching central bus stop leads an traffic accident proneness. So, this study analysed the geometric elements of central bus stop area in terms of vehicle dynamics and suggested design alternatives. METHODS : The study analysed a dynamic behaviour of bus moving in and out of zig-zag shaped section using Auto-Turn under scenarios. Based upon dynamic analysis, the study found out the width of overtaking lane is the most influential factor for a safe moving at zig-zag alignment. RESULTS : The width of overtaking lane at design speed of 40, 50, and 60 km/h respectively was suggested given taper ratio of 1 to 10 required for Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), and the lane width is not wider than 4.0m which possibly makes two vehicles using the same lane. Also, the width of overtaking lane which mitigates the taper ratio was suggested with the same restriction about the maximum lane width. CONCLUSIONS : The results of the study can be used to prepare a design guideline on zig-zag shaped alignment of central bus exclusive lanes. The more stable moving is expected by applying the design alternatives suggested, therefore the lower rate of traffic crashes at the vicinity of central bus stops.
