  • Objectives: The objective of this study was to assess energy expenditure and metabolic cost (METs) of walking activities of college students and to compare treadmill based walking with self-selected hallway walking. Methods: Thirty subjects (mean age $23.4{\pm}1.6years$) completed eight walking activities. Five treadmill walking activities (TW2.4, TW3.2, TW4.0, TW4.8, TW5.6) were followed by three self-selected hallway walking activities, namely, walk as if you were walking and talking with a friend: HWL (leisurely), walk as if you were hurrying across the street at a cross-walk: HWB (brisk) and walk as fast as you can but do not run: HWF (fast) were performed by each subject. Energy expenditure was measured using a portable metabolic system and accelerometers. Results: Except for HWF (fast) activity, energy expenditures of all other walking activities measured were higher in male than in female subjects. The lowest energy expenditure and METs were observed in TW2.4 ($3.65{\pm}0.84kcal/min$ and $2.88{\pm}0.26METs$ in male), HWL (leisurely) ($2.85{\pm}0.70kcal/min$ and $3.20{\pm}0.57METs$ in female), and the highest rates were observed in HWF (fast) ($7.72{\pm}2.81kcal/min$, $5.84{\pm}1.84METs$ in male, $6.65{\pm}1.57kcal/min$, $7.13{\pm}0.68METs$ in female). Regarding the comparison of treadmill-based walking activities and self-selected walking, the energy expenditure of HWL (leisurely) was not significantly different from that of TW2.4. In case of male, no significant difference was observed between energy costs of HWB (brisk), HWF (fast) and TW5.6 activities, whereas in female, energy expenditures during HWB (brisk) and HWF (fast) were significantly different from that of TW5.6. Conclusions: In this study, we observed that energy expenditure from self-selected walking activities of college students was comparable with treadmill-based activities at specific speeds. Our results suggested that a practicing leisurely or brisk walking for a minimum of 150 minutes per week by both male and female college students enable them to meet recommendations from the Physical activity guide for Koreans.

  • Images taken using drones have been applied to fields that require rapid decision-making as they can quickly construct high-quality 3D spatial information for small regions. To construct spatial information based on drone images, it is necessary to determine the relationship between images by extracting keypoints between adjacent drone images and performing image matching. Therefore, in this study, three study regions photographed using a drone were selected: a region where parking lots and a lake coexisted, a downtown region with buildings, and a field region of natural terrain, and the performance of AKAZE (Accelerated-KAZE), BRISK (Binary Robust Invariant Scalable Keypoints), KAZE, ORB (Oriented FAST and Rotated BRIEF), SIFT (Scale Invariant Feature Transform), and SURF (Speeded Up Robust Features) algorithms were analyzed. The performance of the keypoints extraction algorithms was compared with the distribution of extracted keypoints, distribution of matched points, processing time, and matching accuracy. In the region where the parking lot and lake coexist, the processing speed of the BRISK algorithm was fast, and the SURF algorithm showed excellent performance in the distribution of keypoints and matched points and matching accuracy. In the downtown region with buildings, the processing speed of the AKAZE algorithm was fast and the SURF algorithm showed excellent performance in the distribution of keypoints and matched points and matching accuracy. In the field region of natural terrain, the keypoints and matched points of the SURF algorithm were evenly distributed throughout the image taken by drone, but the AKAZE algorithm showed the highest matching accuracy and processing speed.

  • Purpose: To evaluate changes in lower extremity muscle activity caused by high heeled shoe wearing during normal, brisk, and upslope walking. Methods: Twenty healthy young women (age, $23.9{\pm}2.47$) participated in this study. Muscle activities of the tibialis anterior, peroneus longus, gastrocnemius lateralis, gastrocnemius medialis, soleus, hamstring, vastus lateralis, and vastus medialis while walking normally, walking briskly, and walking up a slope. Results: When walking normally, the peroneus longus, gastrocnemius lateralis, soleus, and vastus lateralis evidenced higher activity when high-heeled shoes were worn (p<0.05). During brisk walking, the peroneus longus and gastrocnemius lateralis exhibited higher activity (p<0.05). Although the peroneus longus and vastus lateralis exhibited higher activity when walking up an incline with high-heeled shoes, the activity levels of the tibialis anterior and gastrocnemius medialis were lower (p<0.05). Conclusion: The results of this study demonstrate that increased heel height substantially reduces muscle effort when walking up a slope. From a therapeutic perspective, it is possible that using high heeled shoes over a short period might enhance muscle activity of ankle evertor, although it can cause mediolateral muscle imbalances in the lower extremities.

  • In this paper, if images are acquired in all-time situations through various sensors (EO/IR, SAR, GMTI, LiDAR) used for defense purposes, the images can be analyzed and expressed in augmented reality(AR). Various algorithms are used to process images with augmented reality, and depending on the situation, it is necessary to decide which algorithms to select and use. Through the performance comparison (error rate, processing time, accuracy) of SIFT, SURF, ORB, and BRISK, the representative augmented reality algorithm, it is analyzed and proposed which augmented reality algorithm is effective to use under various situations in the defense field.

  • As computer vision algorithms are developed on a continuous basis, the visual information from vision sensors has been widely used in the context of simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM), called visual SLAM, which utilizes relative motion information between images. This research addresses a visual SLAM framework for online localization and mapping in an unstructured seabed environment that can be applied to a low-cost unmanned underwater vehicle equipped with a single monocular camera as a major measurement sensor. Typically, an image motion model with a predefined dimensionality can be corrupted by errors due to the violation of the model assumptions, which may lead to performance degradation of the visual SLAM estimation. To deal with the erroneous image motion model, this study employs a local bundle optimization (LBO) scheme when a closed loop is detected. The results of comparison between visual SLAM estimation with LBO and the other case are presented to validate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.

  • As the global smartphones market is growing at a brisk pace, their associated mobile applications are becoming increasingly ubiquitous in our daily life. The growth of mobile application business is explosive. Like other digital contents businesses, illegal downloads of copyrighted mobile applications become major obstacle in the future of the industry. In spite of anti-piracy efforts, the phenomenon has been getting worse. It is necessary to change the focus of current deterrence policies and strategies. This study investigates the factors influencing smartphone applications piracy behavior. For better understanding of illegal behavior, a research model of potential determinants for the piracy behavior is developed and empirically tested via path analysis using structural equation modeling. Findings show that social factors, beliefs concerning benefits from piracy, self-efficacy, and habit have significant effects on attitude toward smartphone application piracy. The result also shows perceived risks and facilitating conditions were not significantly related to their attitude. Implications for research and practice are discussed.

  • To achieve the requirement for high fuel economy and low emissions, the research for GDI engines is recently very brisk in the whole world. This study was performed to measure distribution of average particle size in non-evaporating spray. The 2-D fluorescence/scattering images of fuel spray were captured simultaneously by visualization system composed of a laser sheet, a doubling prism, optical filters, and an ICCD camera. Using the ratio of the two light intensities, particle size distribution was obtained. The SMD measured by fluorescence/scattering technique was compared with it obtained by PDA. The experimental results show that the spray structure of GDI injector and temporal SMD distribution.
