The facility of constructed wet land combined with filter media was examined in order to improve the water quality of a polluted stream, which has been performed as a part of national projects. Throughout 2 years of operation for a stream, it can provide the design and operating parameters for the purpose of future construction. The influent flow rate was about 50% against the design capacity. The removal efficiencies of BOD, $COD_{Mn}$, SS, T-N and T-P were 62.9%, 47.1%, 74.8%, 22.4% and 33.5%, respectively. In order to keep this facility stable, the removal of surface filter media and supplement should be periodically conducted. In addition, the proper selection of sites is recommended not to be flooded.
The treatment performance and operational parameters of a tertiary wastewater treatment process a biological filtration system were investigated. The biological filtration system consisted of a nitrification filter (Fiter 1) and a polishing filter with anoxic and aerobic parts (Filter 2). SS, T-C-BOD, and T-N in effluent were kept stable at less than 3, 5 mg/L, and 5 mgN/L, respectively, under a HRT in Filter (filter-bed) of 0.37~2.3 h. T-N at the outlet of Filter 2 were about 1~5 mgN/L under the condition of LV of 50~202 m/d. In Filter 2, denitrification was accomplished under LV of 50~168 m/d in a 1 m filter-bed. However, the denitrification capacity reached the maximum when the linear velocity was increased to 202 m/d. Relationship between increase in microorganism and headloss was clearer in Filter 2. As a result, the denitrification rate increased from 1.0~2.3 kgN/($m^3-filter-bed{\cdot}d$) as the headloss increased. The COD removal rate was 6.0~9.6 kgCOD/($m^3-filter-bed{\cdot}d$) when operated with Filters 1 and 2. These results mean that captured bacteria contributed a part of COD consumption and denitrification. The maximum nitrification and denitrification rate was 0.5 and 4 kgN/($m^3-filter-bed{\cdot}d$) in Filter 1 and 2.The ratio of backwashing water to the treated water was about 5~10 %. In Filter 1, wasted sludge in backwashing was only 0.7~5.3 gSS/($m^3$-treated water). In Filter 2, added methanol was converted into sludge and its value was 8.0~24 gSS/($m^3$-treated water). These results proved that this process is both convenient to install as tertiary treatment and cost effective to build and operate.

1, 4-dioxane is a recalcitrant pollutant found in contaminated ground waters and industrial effluents. Conventional water treatment techniques are limited to treat this compound effectively. In this study, $O_3$/$H_2O_2$ oxidation process was used to eliminate 1, 4-dioxane in water and to enhance the biodegradability. Several factors affecting biodegradability enhancement were investigated. The relationship between initial oxidation rate of 1 A-dioxane and BOD enhancement rate has been determined, a kinetic model has been proposed. $H_2O_2$ concentration and pH had a proportional relation with biodegradability of 1, 4-dioxane, but in case of ozone, there was no relationship with biodegradability. 1, 4-Dioxane removal efficiencies had good agreement with the biodegradability.
This study was conducted to Investigate the treatment of wastewater from acetaldehyde manufacturing plant by activated sludge process with Micrococcus roseus AW-6, Micrococcus roseus AW-22, Microbacterium lacticum AW-38 and Mlcrobacterium nae- vaniformans AW-41. The $COD_{Mn}$ and $BOD_5$ of the wastewater were 5, 260mg/L and 6, 452mg/L, respectively. pH was 1.85. The main organic component in the wastewater was acetic acrid which was contained 67, 600mg/L. Optimum dilution time for activated sludge process was shown 10 times. The specific substrate removal rate(BL) was 1.95day-1 and the nonbiodegradable matters(Sn) were 23.2mg/L. Saturation constant (Ks) and mainmum specific growth rate(qmax) were 1, 640mg/L and 2.33day-1, respectively. Sludge yield coefficient(Y) and endogenous respiration coefficient(kd) were 0.28mg MLVSS/mgCOD and 0.02day-1, respectively. $COD_{cr}$ removal efficiency was 91% for 1.95day of hydraulic retention time.
This study performed field examinations of a zero discharge and reuse system developed by Hong and Choi(2009). The system installed one of villages located in Hyoryeong-myeon, Gunwee-gun for the experiments. The zero discharge and reuse system consists of anoxic, FES (Ferrous Electricity System), Oxic, Cralifier processes for water treatments. The main feature of the system is to remove phosphorous by using Fe-ionizing module within the FES process. The water purification performances of the system were evaluated, while any defects for using the system were investigated through the field monitoring. It was found that the removal capacities of T-P, T-N, and BOD of the system meet the required water quality with outstanding performance from T-P by obtaining the results of over 90 % removal rates. The efficiency of T-P removal rate of the system found to be greatly influenced by whether using an automatic washing system to the Fe-ionizing module and conducting replacement of iron plate within a proper period.
