Design of a Mixed $H_2/H_{\infty}$ PID Controller for Speed Control of Brushless DC Motor by Genetic Algorithm (유전 알고리즘에 의한 브러시리스 DC모터의 속도 제어용 혼합 $H_2/H_{\infty}$ PID제어기 설계)

  • A mixed method between $H_2\;and\;H_{\infty}$ control are widely applied to systems which has parameter perturbation and uncertain model to obtain an optimal robust controller. Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) motors are widely used for high performance control applications. Conventional PID controller only provides satisfactory performance for set-point regulation. However, with the presence of nonlinearities, uncertainties and perturbations in the system, conventional PID is not sufficient to achieve an optimal robust controller. This paper presents an approach to ease designing a Mixed $H_2/H_{\infty}$ PID controller for controlling speed of Brushless DC motors and the genetic algorithm is used to solve the optimized problems. Numerical results are shown to prove that the performance in the proposed controller is better than that in the optimal PID controller using LQR approach.

  • Recently, it is increasing to use more Brushless DC Motor with high energy density permanent magnet and semiconductor control unit for complementing the mechanical defect of Brushed DC Motors. For designing of BLDC Motors are required complex parameters like as rated characteristic, Geometries, B-H curve of magnet and steel materials, winding factor, etc. Moreover, design and manufacturing are difficult because of additional control circuits. Generally, Design parameters are gotten by analysis of Motor which is used. And the design parameters are used to design a new motor. But getting the design parameters through the eyes and experience is limited and it takes a long time. In this paper a method is proposed to efficiently analyze motor design parameters through the No load and Load Test, Back EMF Test, Simulation Analysis and Patent Analysis Method for existing BLDC Motor for a cooling Fan in Vehicle.

  • In this paper, we Present two-dimensional (2-D) analytical model for predicting the magnetic field characteristic of slotless permanent magnet bushless motors. Results from the model are compared to those deduced from 2-D finite element analyses(FEA). It is shown that the radial magnetization and the parallel magnetization of permanent magnet can have flux density on coil, airgap and permanent magnet's surface.

  • A new sensorless control strategy for brushless DC (BLDC) motors is proposed in this paper. This technique builds a rotor position-related flux function, which is independent of the speed. By observing the flux function, the information of rotor position and commutation can be obtained. As the function is not speed-related, this control process can be used in a wider range of speed and improves the motor's performance during startup. An experimental test bad based on TMS320F2812 has been built, and the experimental result indicates that the motor achieves a smooth starting-up and stable phase commutation with the proposed control strategy.

  • In this paper, the characteristic of slotless permanent magnet brushless motors analyze and compare parallel with radial way. This paper derive magnetic field solutions due to the PM. Torque, flux linkage and back emf are then derived. The results are shown in good conformity with those obtained from the commonly used finite element analysis.

  • Inductance is an important parameter determining the characteristics of current waveform in electric motors. There are many kinds of inductances, however, self and mutual inductances are the major components. These inductances are changed under the variation of the magnetic circuit, current, frequency etc., even in the same winding distribution. Therefore this paper deals with the characteristics of inductance according to the shape of stator tooth. The analysis model is newly developed motor made of SMC(Soft Magnetic Composite) to reduce the core loss in high speed. the result of this paper gives the basic understandings of inductance to extend the applications of the motors.

  • This paper presents a simple lead angle adjustment method for brushless DC motors. The proposed method is based on the motor current dynamics analysis during the current commutation interval. With the proposed scheme, the phase current and phase back-EMF voltage are in phase and the BLDC motor and drive system have a high efficiency induced by the reduced copper and conduction losses. Experimental results are shown to validate the proposed method.

  • This paper describes the design and implementation of a 1hp class two-phase type BLDC fan motor used in an air conditioning system. The BLDC motor, which is implemented in this study, is not a commutator motor type with excellent lifetime and durability and is driven by two phase power source. The most important target specification of a motor used in an air conditioning system is that it has a high efficiency at the rated operating point. For this purpose, we designed the stator shape of the BLDC motor, the design of the rotor magnet, and the control circuit for driving. The BLDC motor has a structure where the motor part, the control part, and the power part are integrated. The finite element analysis was used to calculate the characteristics of the BLDC motors, and the conformity of the design results was confirmed by fabricating and testing the prototype model.

  • This paper deals with a noise and vibration of brushless dc (BLDC) motors due to the asymmetrical overhang of permanent magnet. The asymmetrical overhang of permanent magnet is generating z-axis thrust which is lead to eccentric force and vibration of BLDC motor. The z-axis thrust considering asymmetrical overhang effect of permanent magnet is analyzed by using 3-D FEM and the result is compared to experimentation.

  • Vibration of a BLDC motor is a coupled phenomenon between mechanical characteristics and magnetic origins through the motor air-gap. When a relative misalignment of rotor in the air-gap center exists on the assemblage it is considered to influence the motor system characteristics, depending on the degree of misalignment. The rotor-motor system used in a washing machine is modeled using FE-TM and a magnetic force of BLDC motor with radial rotor eccentricity is analyzed. And the transient whirl responses of a rotor system with relative misalignment in the motor air-gap are investigated considering mechanical origins and magnetic effects. Results show that rotor misalignment in the air-gap affect the vibration of the rotor-motor system.
