  • This paper deals with a noise and vibration of brushless dc (BLDC) motors due to the asymmetrical overhang of permanent magnet. The asymmetrical overhang of permanent magnet is generating z-axis thrust which is lead to eccentric force and vibration of BLDC motor. The z-axis thrust considering asymmetrical overhang effect of permanent magnet is analyzed by using 3-D FEM and the result is compared to experimentation.

  • This paper proposes a regeneration braking algorithm for Brushless DC (BLDC) motor system. The unipolar switching method has a limitation about the regeneration braking when the BLDC motor is operated in the low speed region. The proposed algorithm alternatively utilizes the unipolar and bipolar switching method to implement the regeneration braking for overall speed range. The bipolar switching method is used when the BLDC motor is operated in the low speed region. The switching transition point is determined by analyzing the unipolar and bipolar switching during the regeneration braking. The effectiveness of proposed algorithm is verified by using the experimental results.

  • Recently, most machineries have been small size and mobile type. And human body insertion type endoscope and micro robot technology has been developed. Then the motors used in this field are developed in micro size such as about 2mm in diameter. The structure of this motor is similar to a general brushless DC(BLDC) motor but because of small size there is no position sensor such as hall sensor. In this paper, we propose synchronous driving method for micro BLDC motor without position sensor. We design and manufacture this driver and perform experiment to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, we adapted BLDC motor to PV water pumping systems to maintain high efficiency in the wide speed area. Also, to design confidence we adapted the vector control that drive the maximum torque at each speed limit. We designed optimal gain value of current, speed and pressure PI controller. Inverter gate pulse used Space Vector PWM to reduce torque pulsation of BLDC motor. According to, it was improve general matters of high water storage tank method by direct water supply pumping method.

  • 본 논문에서는 하나의 DC-Link 전류센서를 사용하여 BLDC 모터의 상 저항을 고려한 상 전환 토크리플 저감 방법을 제안하고자 한다. 지금까지 하나의 DC-Link 전류센서를 사용하여 BLDC 모터의 상 전환 토크리플 저감에 대한 연구는 많이 진행 되어 왔다. 기존의 방법들은 상 저항 값을 무시하여 상 인덕턴스 성분만을 가지고 제어한 방법이 주류를 이루어 왔다. 하지만 상 저항 값이 크면, 저속 영역과 고속 영역 구간에 변화를 가져와 기존의 방법을 사용할 시 토크리플이 발생한다. 또한 상 전환 시 전류 기울기와 상 전환 시간에 대해 영향을 미치게 되어 기존의 방법을 사용할 경우 토크리플이 발생하게 된다. 본 논문에서는 시뮬레이션을 통하여 상 저항을 고려한 BLDC 모터의 상 전환 토크리플 저감 방법에 대해 효용성을 입증하고자 한다.

  • Acoustic noises generated during motor operation in mechanical system are from electromagnetic, mechanical, aerodynamic and electrical sources. For identification of mechanical noise origins, misalignment, unbalance, fan shape, resonance, and vibration modes have been extensively considered to describe noise behavior. An experiment-based approach as well as a mathematical approach needs to be adopted for a realistic study into noise and vibration of the motor, because motor noise characteristics differ from type to type due to various noise sources. This paper analyzes noise characteristics of a brushless DC motor for air-conditioner fan, and proves that the test motor noise originates from acoustic modes of airspace in the motor. The motor noise sensitivity analysis by design of experiments reveals that the noise characteristics are closely related to switching frequency and frame thickness.

  • In this paper, the development of the prototype electric vehicle for golf car is described. A brushless dc (BLDC) motor is applied as a prime mover. The BLDC motor is coupled directly to the reduction and differential gear system. The output power of the motor is decided to 2.2Kw at 3000 rpm, which is a general value of the golf car on the market today. The motor is driven by the microprocessor-based 3-phase PWM inverter system. We introduce the performance and functions of the BLDC motor and it's control system.

  • In this paper, we develope a speed control system of a BLDC motor for handpieces used in beauty applications. To reduce implementation cost, the control system utilizes hall sensors embedded in BLDC motors for speed estimation. The developed power module of a motor uses only 220V home voltage, so that the control system does not need any other power sources. An over-speed limit controller is also developed to slow down a motor when the speed goes up rapidly for a moment upon some heavy load is removed. The control system is designed to operate a handpiece with speed in the range of 5,000~30,000 RPM. Experiment results show the validity of the developed system, which maintains the speed of a motor steady even though a load is varied.

  • The thermal reliability of the closed-type BLDC motor for the high speed axial fans is analyzed by a numerical method in this paper. Since the module and the motor part are combined in a closed case, the heat generated from a rotor in the motor and the electronic components in the PCB module can not be effectively removed to the outside. Therefore the module will easily fail by high temperature. The accelerated-life testing was accomplished to formulate the life equation and numerical method is used to predict the inside temperature of the PCB module, which is one of the life equation parameter according to the environment. When the environment temperature of BLDC motor is 21, 35 and 50 $^{\circ}C$, the temperature in the PCB space is predicted as 73.4, 87.5 and 102.4 $^{\circ}C$. Then the life time with the temperature are calculated as 2,239, 863 and 328 hours.

  • This paper describes the BLDC motor which is applicated for a top front loading domestic washing machine. This motor is adopted direct drive washing machine without gear-belt-pulley system. Because gear box is removed, machine volume and noise are reduced. Moreover mechanical troubles in gear box are removed. Realization of variable speed region through of PWM control and high speed is able to efficient washing and spinning.
