  • Building Information Modeling (BIM) design has been mandatory in Korea since 2016, and it has been gradually expanding in the industry, with a slow attempt to apply it in remodeling constructions. This is because Korea is facing a situation where many buildings are over 30 years old and require remodeling or reconstruction. The remodeling industry is also a growing market, as it saves construction time and cost compared to reconstruction. BIM is an ideal technology element for a competitive remodeling construction, as remodeling constructions face a complicated construction process from the start, including demolition, maintenance, and reinforcement to save the change process. However, there are still limitations in applying BIM to remodeling constructions, due to considerations of the existing building and the complicated requests of the inhabitants. BIM still has technical and environmental limitations for general use. In this study, I analyzed BIM application cases from existing studies and suggest what improvement points should be strengthened.

Developing an Evacuation Evaluation Model for Offshore Oil and Gas Platforms Using BIM and Agent-based Model

  • Accidents on offshore oil and gas platforms (OOGPs) usually cause serious fatalities and financial losses considering demanding environment platforms locate and complex topsides structure platforms own. Evacuation planning on platforms is usually challenging. The computational tool is a good choice to plan evacuation by emergency simulation. However, the complex structure of platforms and varied evacuation behaviors usually weaken the advantages of computational simulation. Therefore, this study developed a simulation model for OOGPs to evaluate different evacuation plans to improve evacuation performance by integrating building information modeling (BIM) and agent-based model (ABM). The developed model consists of four parts: evacuation model input, simulation environment modeling, agent definition, and simulation and comparison. Necessary platform information is extracted from BIM and then used to model simulation environment by integrating matrix model and network model. During agent definition, in addition to basic characteristics, environment sensing and dynamic escape path planning functions are also developed to improve simulation performance. An example OOGP BIM topsides with different emergent scenarios is used to illustrate the developed model. The results showed that the developed model can well simulate evacuation on OOGPs and improve evacuation performance. The developed model was also suggested to be applied to other industries such as the architecture, engineering, and construction industry.

공공 공동주택의 BIM적용 설계 경기 평가관리에 한 연구 - BIM적용 가능 평가항목 선정을 중심으로 - (A Study on the Evaluation Management of Public Housing Architectural Competition using BIM)

  • 국내 공공 공동주택에 BIM 도입이 추진되었으나, BIM 기반 평가 기준 불확실성 및 관리업무 프로세스 비합리성으로 인한 참여업체의 과도한 설계 유발, 성과품 제출위주의 평가가 이루어지고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 공공 공동주택의 BIM 적용 설계 경기평가관리를 위해 실무자의 의견 수렴 및 시범적용을 실시하여 BIM 기술 수준 및 적용 가능성을 파악하고, 이를 통해 현실적인 평가항목 선정을 통한 평가관리 방안을 제시하고자 하였다. 첫째, 본 연구에 앞서 현재 실시되고 있는 BIM 적용 공공 공동주택의 평가 현황을 살펴본 후 사전조사를 통해 BIM이 적용 가능한 항목 15개를 예비 선정 하였다. 둘째, 예비 선정한 15개의 항목 중 BIM 기술수준 적합성, 결과 값 도출과정 명확성, 정보수준 만족 여부를 기준으로 시범적용을 실시한 결과 총 8개의 항목에서 BIM이 적용 가능한 것으로 분석되었다. 특히 현상설계 단계에서의 BIM 적용 평가 가능 항목은 3D 시각화 및 면적 관련 항목이 대부분이며, 기존에 요구되었던 사업비, 에너지/환경분석, 구조, 설비관련 항목은 후속설계 단계(기본, 실시)에 적합한 것으로 정리 할 수 있다. 본 연구의 결과는 현재 국내의 BIM 기술 수준 및 적용 가능성을 올바르게 인식하지 못하고, 무분별한 범위에서 BIM을 적용하고자 하는 현업 실태의 문제점을 지적하고, 적절한 범위에서 가장 객관적인 결과 및 BIM의 효율성을 극대화하고자 하는데 활용할 수 있는 자료를 제공하였다.

건축설계 단계에서 설계품질 향상을 위한 개방형 BIM기반 품질관리 방안 (Open BIM-Based Quality Control for Enhancing the Design Quality in the Architectural Design Phase)

  • 현재 BIM을 도입한 주요 국가들은 BIM 발주 또는 납품 전 단계에서 설계사가 설계과정 중 기본적인 품질 확보가 가능하도록 필요한 지침을 제공하고 있다. 그러나 국내 건설산업의 경우, BIM의 도입 및 적용은 확산되고 있으나, BIM 발주 시 설계품질을 고려한 지침은 제공되지 않고 있다. 이로 인해 설계사는 자의적 해석에 의존적일 수밖에 없으며, 발주자는 납품받은 BIM 데이터의 품질을 신뢰하기 힘든 상황이다. 또한, BIM 소프트웨어의 내부 오류는 파악할 수 없는 관계로 자체 포맷에 의한 품질검토는 BIM 데이터의 품질을 확보하기 어렵다. 따라서 BIM 데이터의 품질을 높이기 위해서는 개방형 BIM(IFC)을 활용한 객체모델링과 객체별 속성 정의 등을 포함하는 지침을 개발할 필요가 있다. 이는 BIM 데이터의 기본 품질을 보증하고, 품질검토를 통하여 좀 더 나은 품질을 확보하는데 활용될 수 있다. 이에 본 연구는 설계품질 향상을 위한 개방형 BIM기반의 품질관리 방안으로 해외 주요 국가들의 선진사례와 품질검토 소프트웨어를 조사 분석하여 기본적인 품질관리가 가능한 요구조건을 제시하였고, 기존 BIM 사례에 적용하여 요구조건의 유용성을 검토하였다.

BIM으로부터 가상도시 구축용 건축물정보의 추출 (Extracting Building Geomety from BIM for 3-D City Model)

  • 본 연구는 다양한 형상과 정보를 가질 뿐만 아니라 신축 및 재건축을 통하여 끊임없이 갱신되는 건물에 대해 3-D GIS를 구축하기 위한 기초자료를 효율적으로 획득하고 관리하기 위한 방법을 제시한다. 먼저 건물정보모델(BIM)과 지리정보시스템(GIS)의 정보모델의 특징들을 비교해 보고, 가상도시 구축을 위한 정보모델인 CityGML과 건물표현을 위한 세밀도를 살펴본 다음, BIM으로부터 CityGML에 따른 건물정보를 추출하기 위한 프로토타입을 구현하여 실행사례를 보인다. 본 연구의 접근방법은 건축설계 및 건축관련 엔지니어링 사무소, 또는 건설회사에서 CAD로 작성한 기존의 건물 및 부지에 관련한 2, 3차원 정보뿐만 아니라 새로운 추세로 자리잡는 IFC 정보를 활용할 수 있어 국가 지리정보시스템내에 건물 외형과 내부 모델을 구축하기 위한 많은 노력을 절감할 수 있다는 장점이 있다.

공공시설 발주자 관점에서의 BIM 적용 현황 및 개선방안 연구 - 한국전력공사 나주 신사옥 건립공사 사례를 중심으로 - (A Study on the Current Status and Improvement of BIM in the Government Owner Perspective - Focus on the KEPCO Na-Ju Head Office Project -)

  • The application of the BIM for the KEPCO' new headquarters in Naju involved alternative approaches and accompanied many trials-and-errors as the project adopted new targets and purposes that were not used in Korea before. In particular, for a large BIM-based project, clearly defining the BIM-including the objective, scope and the outcome-is critical for a project owner. For a successful implementation, project owners should improve the utilization of the BIM. Against this background, this research examines the case of the BIM application for the KEPCO' new headquarters in Naju, identifies its effects and problems, and proposes how to improve application of the BIM for public projects. The improvement in the BIM application can be divided into several stages: project order, design development, construction, and post-construction maintenance. In the initial stage, it is important to fully discuss the project planning among participants, and clarify the goal, scope, expected outcomes and role of the BIM. In the design stage, the level of detail (LOD) for the 3D model should be defined in consideration of information use in the stages of estimation and construction. In the construction stage, the scope of project that is managed based on the processing and use of the BIM data should be clearly given and understood. After construction is complete, measures should be sought to use the BIM for maintenance, and corresponding requirements and outcomes should be provided. The analysis is expected to provide basic data for successful implementation of BIM-based public projects, by assisting project owners and involved parties in enhancing work in different stages of a project.

A-Type RC 주탑의 3차원 정보모델과 비선형 구조해석모델 생성을 위한 인터페이스 연구 (A Study on 3D CAD/NFEA modeling Interface of A-Type RC Bridge Pylon)

  • As BIM application continues to increase in civil engineering, in this study, 3D information model for RC(Reinforced Concrete) bridge pylon was developed and verified its effectiveness at the structural-design stage. To define 3D information model of RC A-Type pylon, characteristics of pylon were analyzed and 3D model structure was constructed. The 3D information model, one of the core product of BIM, manages all information generated during all life-cycle of a structure and consequently maximizes the efficiency of utilizing information. Also, this study proposes interface module between input data in structural analysis and 3D model of RC pylon. The module can create the input data for non-linear structural analysis. It is essential to study on method of developing 3D information model and propose a structural analysis model by utilizing 3D model for the effective use of BIM techniques in construction industry. The results of this study can be used as the base data for developing the 3D information model of RC pylon in the structural analysis field.

  • Currently, BIPV (Building Integrated Photovoltaic) design technology lacks analysis function at the planning stage, and there is a lack of understanding and reliability of BIPV design method and system for building designers. To design and consider various building integrated solar design alternatives, the color of building integrated solar is often monotonous or does not match the design direction of the building. In this study, architectural designers can select various color modules in the planning and design process of the building and analyze the characteristics of color module solar cells and compare and analyze the actual solar radiation and predicted solar radiation in Republic ofKorea Seoul to reduce the confusion of design methods. By building a BIM design integrated system that can prove the quality of the building and analyze the shading analysis and power generation performance architecturally, it can improve the reliability of color module solar cell applicability that can express aesthetics in buildings and the predicted solar power generation capacity of each region. In the initial design stage, based on the empirical data of the BIPV system, it is possible to analyze the power generation performance for each installation angle and installation direction by analyzing the surrounding environment and the installation area, and accurately determine the appropriateness of the design accordingly.

BIM 라이브러리를 활용한 철도 인프라의 모델링 자동화 기술 개발 (Development of Automation Technology for Modeling of Railway Infrastructure using BIM Library)

  • Recently, research on the application of BIM has continuously been active not only in architecture but also in civil engineering in order to improve work efficiency across the project's planning, design, construction and maintenance phases. However, the empirical applications of BIM targeting to civil engineering scope of construction sites still lags compared to architectural sized projects. This is because BIM tools are mainly based upon vertical structures of architecture, thereby most of them have difficulties and limitations to get utilized on horizontal structures of civil engineering. Therefore, this study intends to propose automation technology of design using BIM library and to indicate its field availability through case application on a railway project representing linear infrastructure. In addition, it put forward the utilization plan of the automation technology upto 4D and 5D by continue making use of the BIM model created in the project's design stage up through the maintenance stage. The novel method of the technology proposed in this paper incorporates the automatic creation of the BIM library based on two-dimensional tunnel cross-sections and sweeping of it over three-dimensional alignment to create a BIM model of linear infrastructure. The proposed technology is anticipated to improve the efficiecny of modeling process of railway projects based on linear structures.

Applying BIM and GIS to Railway Maintenance Works in Taiwan

  • Based on real jobs, this study was carried out the Railway maintenance works in Taiwan. It hopes to use Geographic Information System(GIS) and Building Information Modeling(BIM) for changing the maintenance model from "post-damage repair" to "preventive maintenance". Accordingly, this research will build a Railway Repairing Database that installs all repair data. This database will also connect to GIS so that can be the source of analysis and statistic for repair paln. The main results of research are as follows: I. All data stored on cloud space that raises the ability to manage and plan on repair. II. Simplify the file work and increase the quantity of case data to the manager who can get more reliable source. III. The data offer objective judgment to avoid subjective argument. IV. Add the GIS information to improve the maintenance because of good analisis.
