  • We report on the bias stability characteristics of transparent ZnO thin film transistors (TFTs) under visible light illumination. The transfer curve shows virtually no change under positive gate bias stress with light illumination, while it shows dramatic negative shifts under negative gate bias stress. The major mechanism of the bias stability under visible illumination of our ZnO TFTs is thought to be the charge trapping of photo-generated holes at the gate insulator and/or insulator/channel interface.

  • A micromagnetic model and a single-domain model simulation programs were used to analyze the sensitivity of a $20\mu m\times 60\mu m \times 1000{\AA}$ permalloy strip as a magnetoresistance sensor with bias fields of various directions and magnitudes. The micromagnetic model agrees with the measured sensitivity data better than the single-domain model. The data show the highest peak sensitivity with the bias field at 90$^{\circ}$to the current. The peak sensitivity decreases and the peak broadens as the bias angle decreases. The simulation using the micromagnetic model shows that a bias angle smaller than 90$^{\circ}$eads to magnetization patterns which are free from closure domains or vertices over a wider range of bias fields.

  • Due to the rapid increase of long-distance transportation, particular attentions have been paid to truck tires, especially to their dynamic characteristics. In this research, experimental modal analysis on two kinds of light-truck tires, i.e., radial tire and bias tire, are performed by using GRFP(global rational fraction polynomial) method to investigate differences of the dynamic behavior of the two tires. The test results have shown that the modal frequencies of bias tire are much higher than their corresponding values of radial tire with a similar mode shape, which is in accordance with the fact that the radial rigidity of bias tire is higher than that of radial tire. And most of the modal decay rates of bias tire are larger than those of radial tire within the scope of this experiment. In the frequency domain range of test, the bias tire has extra modes, which do not occur in the radial tire. This difference is based on the fact that the circumferential rigidity of the bias tire is quite low whereas that of radial tire is so high that the frequencies of the corresponding modes are out of the frequency range of test.

  • Titanium nitride films have been prepared on various substrates (silicon wafer, HSS) by cathode arc ion plating process to measure microhardness, adhesion and wear-resistant behaviors by changing the substrate bias voltages (0∼-300V), thickness and roughness. Microhardnesses were measured by micro vickers hardness tester, the adhesion strengths were evaluated by acoustic signals through the scratch test with incremental applied load. As the substrate bias voltages were increased, the {111} orientation was predominant, the microhardnesses and adhesion strengths of tool steel were observed to be stronger than those of without subatrate bias voltage. Adhesion strengths of the substrate bias were 4-7 times higher than those of without the substrate bias, confirmed by SEM with EDX. Wear resistances were used pin-on-disk tribotester and TiN costing reduced the abrasive wear. As the substrate bias was increased, the weight loss and the friction coefficient was decreased.

  • Compositional gradient CrNx coatings were fabricated using arc ion plating in Ar/$N_2$ gaseous mixture by gradually increasing $N_2$ flux rate from 0 to 120 SCCM. The effect of negative substrate bias on the film microstructure and mechanical properties were systematically investigated with XRD, GDOES, and SEM. The results show that substrate bias has an important influence on film growth and microstructure of gradient CrNx coatings. The coatings mainly crystallized in the mixture of hexagonal $Cr_{2}N$ and fcc CrN phases. By increasing substrate bias, film microstructure evolved from an apparent columnar structure to an equiaxed one. With increasing substrate bias, deposition rate first increased, and then decreased. The maximum of deposition rate was 15 nm/min obtained at a bias of -50V.

  • This paper provides a non-Bayesian method based on the expanded EM algorithm for segmenting the magnetic resonance images degraded by bias field. For the images with the intensity as a pixel value, many segmentation methods often fail to segment it because of the bias field(with low frequency) as well as noise(with high frequency). Our contextual approach is appropriately designed by using normal mixture model incorporated with Markov random field for noise-corrective segmentation and by using the penalized likelihood to estimate bias field for efficient bias filed-correction.

  • A magnetostrictive sensor is used to measure stress waves propagating in a ferromagnetic cylinder without physical contact. The performance of a magnetostrictive sensor is affected most significantly by the bias magnetic field applied around the measurement location. The goal of this paper is to carry out the topology optimization of the bias magnet and yoke assembly to maximize the sensor output for traveling bending waves. We will use the multi-resolution topology optimization strategy to find the assembly of the bias magnet and the yoke that is easy to realize. The effectiveness of the present design is confirmed by an actual measurement of the sensor signal with the proposed bias magnet and yoke configuration.

  • It is identified that the diamond films grown o bias-treated (100) silicon showed different surface morphologies and film textures according to the initial applied dc bias voltage at the same growth condition. The highly oriented diamond film (HODF) was successfully grown on -200 V bias-treated silicon substrate in which the heteroepitaxial relation of $(100)_{dimond}//(100)_{si}\; and\; [110]_{diamond}//[110]_{si}$ was identified. On the contrary, the heteroepitaxial relation was considerably disturbed in the samples bias-voltage was a key factor in growing the highly oriented diamond film on (100) silicon substrate. Considering the experimental results, we proposed a new model about heteroepitaxial diamond growth on silicon, in which 9 diamond unit cell are matched with 4 silicon cells and the bond covalency of both atoms is satisfied via the intermediate layer at the interface as well.

  • This paper presents a sensor bias estimation method with serial fusion for asynchronous multisensory systems. Serial fusion processes the sensor measurements in a first-come-first-serve basis and it plays an essential role in asynchronous fusion in practice. The proposed algorithm generates the bias measurements using fusion estimates and sensor measurements for bias estimation, and compensates the sensor biases in fusion tracks. A simulation study indicates that the proposed algorithm has the superior performance in bias estimation and accurate tracking.

  • This paper describes a highly accelerated life test (HALT, USPCBT) method for rapid qualification testing of STH PWB(Silver Through Hole Printed Wiring Boards). This method was carried out to be an alternative to the present time-consuming standard 1344 hours life testing(THB). The accelerated life test conditions were $121^{\circ}C$/95%R.H. at 50V bias and without bias. Their results are compared with those observed in the standard 1344 hours life test at $40^{\circ}C$/95%R.H. at 50V bias and without bias. The studies were focused on the samples time-to-failure as well as the associated conduction and failure mechanisms. The abrupt drop of insulation resistance is due to the absorption of water vapour. And the continuous drop of insulation resistance is due to the Ag migration. The ratios of time-to-failure of HALT(USPCBT) to THB were 25 and 11 at 50V bias and without bias respectively.
