  • Many organic materials have been synthesized and extended efforts have been made to obtain high performance electroluminescence(EL) devices, since the first report of the light-emitting diodes based on Alq3. BECCP[bis(3-N-ethylcarbazolyl)cyanoterephthalidene] is a new luminescent material having cyano as an electron acceptor part and carbazole moiety as an electron donor part. The BECCP material shows blue PL and EL spectra of the device at about 480nm and in the ITO/BECCP/Al device shows typical rectifying diode characteristics. We have introduced Alq3 between the electrode and BECCP, and obtained more intensive rectifying diode characteristics in forward and reverse bias.

  • We synthesized Bis(3-N-ethylcarbazolyl) terephthalidene(BECP) and Bis(3-7-ethyl-carbazolyl) cyanoterephthalidene(BECCP) and characterized EL properties of these materials. Our device shows a strong blue emission at 472 nm with a luminance efficiency of 0.9 lm/W at a voltage, a current density, and a brightness of 8 V, 5.7 mA/cm$^2$, and 130 cd/m$^2$, respectively.

  • We have fabricated an air stable blue emitting organic electroluminescent devices (OLEDs) with a carbazole based emitting molecule, Bis(3-N-ethylcarbazolyl)terephthalidene (BECP). Our device emits strong blue at 472 nm with the luminance efficiency of near 1 lm/W at a voltage and current density of 8 V and 5.7 mA/cm2, respectively, reaching the brightness up to 5000 cd/m2 at 270 mA/cm2. Finally, in order to tune the emission color from blue to green, we have used Bis(3-N-ethylcarbazolyl)cynoterephthalidene (BECCP), a derivative of BECP by adding cyno group in side chain, and compared the electroluminscence (EL) of OLEDS prepared by BECCP to that of BECP based OLEDs.
