A New Tent Roost of Thomas' Fruit-eating Bat, Artibeus watsoni (Chiroptera: Phyllostomidae), in Panama

  • Thomas'fruit-eating bat, Artibeus watssoni, is known to alter leaves of a wide variety of tropical plants to construct tent roosts. On Barro Colorado Island and Gigante Peninsula in the canal zone, Panama, A. watsoni is found to use the black palm, Astrocaryum standleyanum, as its tent plant. Bats cut the first five to ten pinnae from the proximal side of the terminal blade and chew additional four to nine pinnae without severing their central veins. The distance from the frond rachis to the cut decreases distally leaving an inverted V-shaped cut path. The distal portions of the bifurcated blade are then collapsed and folded to form the'bifid'tent with an inverted boat-shaped cavity underneath. All tents were in fronds of trunkless juvenile plants.

  • To study the function and structure of Golgi apparatus in the spermiogenesis of long-fingered bat (Miniopterus schreibersi fuliginosus), the testis obtained from adult bat was treated with the prolonged osmification or fixed with ferrocyanide reduced osmium. golgi apparatus was oval shape in early Golgi phase, and was composed of cortex and medullar enclosing acrosome in mid Golgi phase. The vesicles of crescent shape Golgi apparatus were closed or fused with small or large vesicles at the periphery of acrosome. Golgi apparatus moved behing the acrosome face in cap phase, but the Golgi apparatus was still active. According to this, Golgi apparatus appears to be involved in the formation of acrosome and sperm tail. Transfer of materials from Golgi to acrosme seems to be carried out not only by fusion of large vesicles with acrosomal vesicles but also by detachment of coated vesicle from various cisternae of Golgi fusing with acrosomal vesicle.

Synthesis and Cathodoluminescence of ZnO Crystals with Baseball Bat Shape Through Oxidation of ZnS in Air Atmosphere (대기 분위기에서 ZnS의 산화에 의해 생성된 야구 배트 형상의 ZnO 결정과 음극선형광 특성)

  • ZnO crystals with a baseball bat shape were synthesized without any catalysts through a simple thermal oxidation of ZnS powder in alumina crucible under air atmosphere. SEM images demonstrated that the bat structure was composed of two pieces of ZnO crystals, i.e hexagonal-shaped rod and inverted cone-shaped rod. X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern revealed that the ZnO crystals had wurtzite hexagonal structure. Energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectrum showed that the ZnO was of high purity. A strong green emission peak at 510 nm was observed in cathodoluminescece spectrum.

Effect of Selenium on Cold Adapted Beef Cattle

  • Cattle in Alaska seemed to be tolerant to low blood selenium (Se) although arctic winter energy demands might exacerbate oxidative damage to tissues lacking protection by Se. The thermogenic properities of brown adipose tissue (BAT) and the long cold adaptation period for Alaskan cattle indicates that they might develop BAT. Eighteen mature beef cows with whole blood Se of< 19 ppb were used to examine possible relation-ships among Se deficiency, tissue lesions, and observable BAT. All cows were wintered on a diet low in Se and nine cows were given supplemental Se provided by intraruminal bolus. Blood Se was elevated (p < .05) from November through February by supplemental Se, but body weight and back fat thickness were unaffected (p < .10). Tissues were taken from two Se deficient cows, two cows supplemented with Se, and two cows given large doses of Se (300 mg by injection) four weeks before slaughter. Histopathological examination of 187 samples of fat (7 to 55 from each cow) showed no observable amount of BAT. Examination of other tissues showed no lesions attributable to Se deficiency.

  • 멀티플레이 게임을 개발하기 위해서는 게임 서버의 구축이 필수 요소이며, 이러한 멀티 플레이 게임은 데이터 송수신이 빨라야 하므로 두 디바이스 간의 직접적인 통신을 위한 홀 펀칭, 릴레이 서버와 같은 기술이 요구된다. 그러나 멀티플레이 게임의 구현을 위해서는 일반적인 서버보다 경제적, 시간적인 자원이 더 많이 소요되기 때문에 대규모 개발 조직과 달리 소규모 개발자들은 어려움을 겪는다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위해 본 연구에서는 멀티 플레이 게임 서버를 자체 제작하고 이를 이용할 수 있는 Unity Asset 형태의 컴포넌트를 개발하여 개발자들이 싱글 플레이 게임을 멀티플레이 게임으로 쉽게 바꿀 수 있도록 하였다.

BTA에 의한 심공가공시 가공면 형상에 관한 연구

  • 트위스트 드릴을 사용한 구멍은 구멍가공중 가장 경제적인 방법중의 하나이다. 그러나 트위스트 드릴에 의한 가공은 길이에 대한 구멍경의 비가 한정되어 있다. 깊이/직경(L/D)의 비가 통상 5배 이상의 경우의 적절한 가공방법은 거압력의 절삭유를 공급할 수 있는 공구를 사용하여 가공하고 있으며, 그 대표적인 방법은 Long drull, Gun drill, BTA drill 및 Ejector drill등이 있다. 이들 방법중 BAT drill은 다른 가공공구에 비하여 우수한 가공능율을 갖고 있다. 그러나 BAT드릴에 의한 심공가공은 1회 가공에 의하여 요구되는 품질을 만족시켜야 함으로 이에 대응한 연구가 요구되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 BAT드릴링 시스템에 BAT drrill을 사용하여 심공가공할때 공작물의 형상 즉 표면 거칠기 및 지원도등 미치는 영향에 대하여 실험을 통하여 분석하였다.

  • WAVE (Wireless Access in Vehicular Environments) 시스템 환경은 차량 간 무선통신을 가능하게 해주는 환경이다. 무선통신의 활용이 증가하면서 그에 따른 공격 방법도 증가하여, 통신 시 제3자에 의해 패킷이 변조될 수 있다. 제3자로부터 패킷을 보호하기 위해 통신 전 차량은 CA (Certificate Authority)로부터 자신이 적합한 호스트라는 것을 인증 받아야 한다. 본 논문에서는 차량과 CA의 통신 과정에서 Diffie-Hellman Key Exchange 알고리즘과 AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) 알고리즘 등을 이용하여 패킷의 기밀성과 무결성을 보장하는 프로토콜을 설계하였다.

  • Taxonomic studies on two bat species, Nyctalus furvus Imaizumi and Yoshiyuki 1968 belonging to the Vespertilionidae, and Tadarida teniotis (Rafinesque) 1814 belonging to the Molossidae collected at Busan, Korea were carried out. The former, which has been known as an endemic species in Japan, is newly recorded in the Korean fauna and the latter is a very rare species which has not been collected since 1928 (Ognev, 1928) until two females were collected at Busan in this study, although Kishida and Mori (1931) reported the occurrence of the latter with no collecting record. Due to the addition of the former to the South Korean bat fauna, the bat fauna is composed of a total of twenty one species and one subspecies belonging to three families.

  • 2015년도부터 2019년도까지 5년간 고속도로에서 1,079명의 사망자가 발생하였으며, 이중 졸음운전 및 주시 태만이 729명(67.6%)로 가장 많았다. 졸음운전 방지를 위해 휴게소, 졸음쉼터 등 노력하고 있으나 이러한 노력에도 졸음운전으로 인한 사고는 지금까지도 계속해서 발생하고 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 사고를 방지하기 위해 적외선 카메라를 이용한 영상 촬영하여 안면검출 해석과 서비스를 구현하였다. 안면검출을 통한 동공 상태의 여부와 적합한 수면 판단 기준으로 PERCLOS(Percentage of Eye Closure)을 적용하였다. 운전자의 동공의 장축과 단축의 비율이 1 : 0.35 미만 일 때, 운전자가 졸음상태라 판단하고 음성 알람을 통해 졸음방지를 개선할 수 있었다.

  • As the public interest in environmental issues increased, the "Act On The Integrated Control Of Pollutant-Discharging Facility" was enacted. Through the integrated environmental pollution prevention act in which 19 industries with large environmental impacts are sequentially applied, pollutants can be managed in a medium-integrated manner and integrated permission of the business unit is possible and BAT can be applied to enable a scientific and proactive environmental management system. In order to facilitate the implementation of integrated environmental pollution prevention act with these advantages, the BAT BREF should be published, modified and revised every 5 years considering the level of scientific development. This study reviewed the issues to be considered in applying BAT and the types of BAT and focused on presenting improvements and development direction when revising and supplementing the standards in the future based on these contents. For this purpose, when revising the standards, it will be necessary to reflect on the domestic situation, to expand the TWG(Technical Working Group) of small-scale workplace experts, and to exchange opinions with business places that have similar processes for each waste type through a systematic total inspection. In addition to these methods, by establishing a resident participation system through information disclosure, it is expected to be used as a guideline for environmental management of business places not subject to integrated permission of less than 3 types as well as those subject to integrated permission.
