  • In the present study a capacity spectrum method based on constant ductility inelastic spectra to estimate the seismic performance of structures equipped with elastic viscous dampers is presented. As the definition of the structures' effective damping, due to the damping system, is necessary, an alternative method to specify the effective damping ratio ${\xi}eff$ is presented. Moreover, damping reduction factors (B) are introduced to generate high damping elastic demand spectra. Given the elastic spectra for damping ratio ${\xi}eff$, the performance point of the structure can be obtained by relationships that relate the strength demand reduction factor (R) with the ductility demand factor (${\mu}$). As such expressions that link the above quantities, known as R - ${\mu}$ - Τ relationships, for different damping levels are presented. Moreover, corrective factors (Bv) for the pseudo-velocity spectra calculation are reported for different levels of damping and ductility in order to calculate with accuracy the values of the viscous dampers velocities. Finally, to evaluate the results of the proposed method, the whole process is applied to a four-storey reinforced concrete frame structure and to a six-storey steel structure, both equipped with elastic viscous dampers.

  • In this paper, we have investigated electronical chara-cteristics of power LDMOSFETS having different ex-tended gate lengths(1.B${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, 2.4${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, 3.O${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$) in the temperature range of 300k-500K. The results of this study indicate that on-resistance, breakdown voltage increase with temperature. and drain current, threshold voltage, transconductance decrease with temperature. Particular the facts, we observed that Le is the more increase, on-resistance is the more decrease. because every conditions are fixed normal states, only change the Le. As a result, Ron/BV, known for a figure of merit of power device, increase with temperature.

  • We present BV CCD photometry for the open clusters Czernik 24 and Czernik 27. These clusters have never been studied before, and we provide, for the first time, the cluster parameters; reddening, distance, metallicity and age. Czernik 24 is an old open cluster with age $1.8{\pm}0.2Gyr$, metallicity $[Fe/H]=-0.41{\pm}0.15dex$, distance modulus $(m-M)_0=13.1{\pm}0.3mag$ ($d=4.1{\pm}0.5kpc$), and reddening $E(B-V)=0.54{\pm}0.12mag$. The parameters for Czernik 27 are estimated to be $age=0.63{\pm}0.07Gyr$, $[Fe/H]=-0.02{\pm}0.10dex$, $(m-M)_0=13.8{\pm}0.2mag$ ($d=5.8{\pm}0.5kpc$), and $E(B-V)=0.15{\pm}0.05mag$. The metallicity and distance values for Czernik 24 are consistent with the relation between the metallicity and the Galactocentric distance of other old open clusters. We find the metallicity gradient of 51 old open clusters including Czernik 24 to be ${\Delta}[Fe/H]/{\Delta}R_{gc}=-0.064 {\pm}0.009dex\;kpc^{-1}$.

  • Brown rice vinegar was made from brown rice mash with different brewing starter addition rates in static culture, and its quality characteristics were investigated. As a result, the amounts of alcohol produced in the fermentation process were shown to be 9.1, 8.8, 8.6 and 8.5% in the Nuruk 75 : crude enzyme 25 (B), Nuruk 50 : crude enzyme 50 (C), Nuruk 25 : crude enzyme 75 (D) and Nuruk 0 : crude enzyme 100 (E), respectively. The higher the percentage of crude enzyme added was, the lower the alcohol content that was produced. Nuruk 100 : crude enzyme 0 (A) was appeared to contain the lowest alcohol content (7.7%). In addition, the titratable acidity in all the groups was about 0.7%. The final titratable acidity (BV) of brown rice vinegar made with static culture was the highest (approximately 5.2%). The initial pH appeared to be between 3.6~4.0 and steadily decreased as the fermentation progressed, and the pH was almost unchanged after 15 day fermentation. The examination of the changes in the organic acids showed that the acetic acid content was similar in all the groups, and that the single starter added (AV, EV) group had much more other organic acids than the mixed starters added (BV, CV, DV) group. From these results, the mixed starters (Nuruk and crude enzyme) added group appeared to be superior to the single starter added in terms of alcohol production ability and vinegar quality. As the future aging process, however, is expected to change the flavor components and sensory characteristics, studies on various quality factors of vinegar are needed.

  • Korean red ginseng made from steaming and drying fresh ginseng has long been used as a traditional herbal medicine due to its effects on the immune, endocrine, and central nerve systems and its anti-inflammatory activity. In this study, we investigated the molecular mechanism responsible for the anti-inflammatory effects of a formulated Korean red ginseng extract (RGE) in response to lipoteichoic acid (LTA), a cell wall component of gram-positive bacteria. RGE inhibited LTA-induced nitric oxide (NO) secretion and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression in BV-2 microglial cells, without affecting cell viability. RGE also inhibited nuclear translocation of nuclear factor kappa B ($NF-{\kappa}B$) p65 and degradation of $I{\kappa}B-{\alpha}$. In addition, RGE increased the expression of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) in a dose-dependent manner, and the inhibitory effect of RGE on iNOS expression was abrogated by small interfering RNA-mediated knockdown of HO-1. Moreover, RGE induced nuclear translocation of nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), a transcription factor that regulates HO-1 expression. Furthermore, the phosphoinositide-3-kinase (PI-3K) inhibitor and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) inhibitors suppressed RGE-mediated expression of HO-1, and RGE enhanced the phosphorylation of Akt, extracellular signal-regulated kinases (ERKs), p38, and c-JUN N-terminal kinases (JNKs). These results suggested that RGE suppressed the production of NO, a proinflammatory mediator, by inducing HO-1 expression via PI-3K/Akt- and MAPK-dependent signaling in LTA-stimulated microglia. The findings indicate that RGE could be used for the treatment of neuroinflammation induced by grampositive bacteria and that it may have therapeutic potential for various neuroinflammation-associated disorders.

  • As part of the search for bioactive constituents of Korean medicinal plants, twelve steroids (1-12) were isolated from the rhizomes of Dioscorea nipponica. The isolated compounds were identified as diosgenin ($3{\beta}$, 25R)-spirost-5-en-3-ol (1), 25(R)-dracaenoside E (2), dioscin (3), gracillin (4), prosapogenin B (5), 25(R)-dracaenoside G (6), diosgenin 3-O-${\beta}$-D-glucopyranosyl($1{\rightarrow}3$)-${\beta}$-D-glucopyranoside (7), ophipogonin C′ (8), 7-oxodioscin (9), protodioscin (10), hypoglaucin F (11), and protoneogracillin (12). Their structures were characterized by spectroscopic data and identified by comparing these data with those in the literatures. All the isolates (1-12) were evaluated for their neuroprotective effects through induction of nerve growth factor in C6 glioma cells and effects on nitric oxide (NO) production in murine microglia cell line BV-2. Compounds 7 and 12 were found to induce upregulation of NGF secretion without causing significant cell toxicity and compound 4 exhibited potent anti-neuroinflammatory activity.
