  • Plane-strain fatigue crack growth behavior of 7075-76 aluminium alloy was investigated by using side-grooved through-thickness center cracked tension(CCT) specimens. The effect of side-groove on the stress intensity factor value was examined. The effective thickness expression of $B_{e}$= $B_{o}$-( $B_{o}$-( $B_{ o-B_{n}^{2}}$ $B_{o}$ is the most appropriate to evaluate the stress intensity factor of side-grooved CCT specimen for fatigue testing. Fatigue crack growth rates can be well described by the effective stress intensity factor range based on closure measurements, for both side-grooved and uniform thickness specimens. Provided that the thickness of specimen meets the requirements for valid plane-strain fracture toughness, uniform thickness specimen data may be assumed to approximately represent the plane strain through-thickness crack growth behavior.ehavior.r.

  • In this paper, we propose an SIW(Substrate Integrated Waveguide) multi-section E-plane transformer using air-holes for an SIW system with variable thicknesses. Air-holes are inserted into a SIW E-plane quarter wavelength transformer for matching an E-plane impedance discontinuity. A PSIW(Punched Substrate Integrated Waveguide) consisted of air-holes has an SIW characteristic impedance tunability because of reducing a equivalent shunt capacitance of the SIW. And, a PSIW multi-section E-plane transformer is implemented for improving a matching bandwidth by using the Chebyshev polynomial. The measurement results of PSIW double-section E-plane transformer show that the insertion loss($S_{21}$) is $1.57{\pm}0.11$ dB and input return loss($S_{11}$) is more than 15 dB from 11.45 GHz to 13.6 GHz.

  • A microstrip patch array designed at 35 GHz is described for use in the detection of the position of moving targets. To obtain wide detection range, the array is arranged to give a narrow beamwidth in the elevation plane and a wide beamwidth on the azimuth plane. This can be achieved by aligning the electric field plane of each element to the array axis. Employing a 3 dB-tapered feed network, the array has a side lobe level of less than -20 dB and wider azimuth beam width of 12.8$^{\circ}$ simultaneously.

  • This study presents a new, simple method for improving the front-to-back (F/B) ratio of a microstrip patch antenna. The back radiation of the microstrip patch antenna is reduced by removing some metallic parts around the ground plane and placing a new soft-surface configuration, consisting of an array of stand-up split-ring resonators on a bare dielectric substrate near the two ground plane edges. Compared to the F/B ratio of a conventional microstrip patch antenna with a full ground plane of the same size, our proposed microstrip patch antenna experimentally achieves an improved F/B ratio of 9.6 dB.

  • This study presents a new, simple method for improving the front-to-back (F/B) ratio of a microstrip patch antenna (MSA) based on surface wave suppression. The back radiation of the MSA is significantly reduced by using the meandered ground plane edges and placing split-ring resonators (SRRs) in the middle of the meandered slots. By loading SRRs near the center of the meandered ground plane edges, some parts of the diffracted back-lobe power density can be reduced further. Compared to the F/B ratio of a conventional MSA with a full ground plane of the same size, an improved F/B ratio of 18 dB has been achieved experimentally for our proposed MSA.

  • We investigate the spectra and the pseudospectra in plane Poiseuille flow, plane Couette flow and Blasius flow. At subcritical Reynolds number, the spectra are lied strictly inside the stable complex half-plane, but the pseudospectra are lied in the unstable half-plane, reflecting the large linear transient growth that certain perturbations may excite. It means that the smooth flows may become to turbulent even though all the eigenmodes decay monotonically. We found that pseudospectra is one reason that causes subcritical transition in plane Poiseuille flow and plane Couette flow and bypass transition in Blasius flow.

  • In this paper, to reduce the size of patch, three types of 3-dimensional patch antennas which are one-directionally-corrugaged type, rectangular ring-likely corrugated type, and lattice-likely corrugated type rectangular microstrip patch antennas(MPA) are designed and fabricated at the 1.575 GHz. As the result, one-directionally corrugated rectangular MPA is reduced in the resonant length of patch by 21.4% than that of general plane MPA. -10 dB bandwidth(B.W) is 62 MHz(3.9 %) and this is broader than that(39 MHz, 2.5 %) of plane MPA by 23 MHz(1.5 %). The gain is 5.8 dBd and this is reduced by 0.9 dB than that(6.7 dBd) of plane MPA. Half power beamwidth(HPBW) is broadened by 18$^{\circ}$ than that of plane MPA in the E-plane and this is due to the reduced length of patch. For rectangular ring-likely corrugated retangular MPA, the patch size is miniaturized by 21.6 % than that of plane MPA. For lattice-likely corrugated rectangular MPA, in the linear polarization, the size of patch is miniaturized by 43.3 % than that of plane MPA. -10 dB B.W is 70 MHz(4.4 %) and this is broadened than that of plane MPA by 31 MHz(2 %). Gain is 2.2 dBd and this is smaller than that of plane MPA by 4.5 dB. HPBW is increased in both E-plane and H-plane by 22$^{\circ}$ and 13$^{\circ}$, respectively. For circular polarization, the size of patch is reduced by 41 % than that by 41 %. The axial ratio(AR) is 0.8 dB at the 1.575 GHz and the axial ratio bandwidth(ARBW) within 2 dB is 20 MHz(1.27 %) and this is increased by 10 MHz(0.63 %) than that 10 MHz(0.63 %) of plane MPA. From all the results above, it is conformed that the proposed antenna has merit in size reduction of patch and in the input impedance B.W, and is more profitable in many application than the general plane type MPA.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of maxillary occlusal plane angle to postoperative skeletal stability by comparative analysis after two-jaw surgery of patients with skeletal CIII malocclusion. This study was made with lateral cephalometric radiography of 52 patients with skeletal class III malocclusion that were performed to Le Fort I osteotomy and BSSRO. And 52 patients were divided to Group A(n=30) and B(n=22). Maxillary posterior impaction was not conducted in Group A, which the pre-operative maxillary occlusal plane angle was in a normal range, and for Group B, which the pre-operative maxillary occlusal plane was low, the maxillary posterior impaction was conducted. The results were obtained as follows : 1. The relapse rate of Group A, which the pre-operative maxillary occlusal plane angle was in a normal range, was relatively stable compared to Group B, which the pre-operative maxillary occlusal plane was low. 2. The relapse rate of each measurement of Group B, which had the maxillary occlusal plane altered during the operation, was somewhat high, and of those, the post-operative relapse rate of overjet, overbite, mandibular plane angle appeared to be significantly high in the statistics. The analyzed results above, was thought to be indicating that the pre-operative maxillary occlusal plane angle was closely related to the post-operative skeletal stability, and that obtaining post-operative skeletal stability only through operative normalization of occlusal plane angle may meet limitations.

  • In this paper, the design and implementation of the Ka-band(20/30 GHz) waveguide diplexer with an E-plane T-junction are described. The waveguide diplexer consists of a transmit filter and a receive filter combined to the antenna port via an E-plane T-junction. The reason why the E-plane T-junction structure was selected is to reduce PIM(Passive Intermodulation) level as the split-plane is located in the low electrical current zone. The optimization was performed using the equivalent circuit so that the computation time might reduce. The structure of the diplexer was designed to handle high power and the multipaction analysis was performed. The multipaction margin was greater than 12 dB and satisfied with ESA/ESTEC recommendation. The manufactured diplexer shows minimum return loss of 22 dB, maximum insertion loss of 0.20 dB and maximum isolation of -40 dB for both transmitted receive bands. Those mean the analysis results of the waveguide diplexer were well agreed with the electrical performance test.
