  • This paper presents a distance relaying algorithm for a transmission line protection with MAS. First, the voltage and fault current of the opposite side are represented as a function of those of the measuring end using source voltages of both ends. These voltages are assumed to be obtained from the transformers protecting agents, periodically in normal state. Then, the fault location expression, independent of fault resistance, is derived with voltage and current in only one end of faulted line used. The suggested algorithm is applied to a simple system with two power sources to show its effectiveness.

  • The outage cost has very important position for determination of the optimal level or optimal range of reliability in power system expansion planning. Establishing the worth of service reliability is a very difficult and subjective task. This paper suggests strategies for the role, need and assessment algorithm and methodology of the outage cost in power system expansion planning. Organization, data collections and method about D/B for outage cost assessment is proposed in the this study.

  • This paper contains the various effect of distribution feeder sectionalizing by distribution automation. The effect by automatic sectionalizing switch and the effect by manual switch are analyzed and shown according to the radial feeder and the loop feeder respectively. Based on the reliability analysis, the reference for the feeder division and sectionalization is recommended. Also, the necessary number of manual switch where the automatic switch is installed is recommended through the reliability analysis.

  • This paper presents an approach to feeder reconfiguration in order to achieve an efficient operation of distribution systems utilizing knowledge base. The optimal feeder reconfiguration in this study eliminates various abnormal states which will create feeder overloads and feeder constraint problems. and will also accomplish minimum power loss of the distribution systems under normal operating condition by means of branch exchanges to change the status of sectionalizing switches with experiences of the experts. For an effective implementation of feeder reconfiguration, a best-first tree searching strategy based on heuristics is employed to evaluate the various alternatives of load transfer. The heuristic exchange of branches results in reduction of the search space as a means of implementing the best-first searching strategy.

  • This paper suggests an optimal parameter setting method by use of parametric protectability index, as the objective function. In this paper, a gradient based optimization method is used under the assumption that the initial values of a parameter is in a convex set including the optimal value, which is verified by a plenty of simulation studies. The proposed method is applied to a sample distribution network to shows its effectiveness.

  • This paper concerns about the requirement analysis for night vision imaging system(NVIS), whose purpose is to intensify the available nighttime near infrared(IR) radiation sufficiently to be caught by the human eyes on a miniature green phosphor screen. The requirements for NVIS are NVIS radiance(NR), chromaticity, daylight legibility/readability, etc. The NR is a quantitative measure of night vision goggle (NVG) compatibility of a light source as viewed through goggles. The chromaticity is the quality of a color as determined by its purity and dominant wavelength. The daylight legibility/readability is the degree at which words are readable based on appearance and a measure of an instrument's ability to display incremental changes in its output value. In this paper, the requirements of NR, chromaticity, and daylight legibility/readability for Type I and Class B/C NVIS are analyzed. Also the rationale is shown with respect to those requirements.

  • FACTS concept is the control of power flow and increase of the loading on existing lines to the thermal limuts. This paper focuses on the ability of the thyristor controlled series compensator (TCSC) to stabilize the disturbed power systems. The result shows the potential benefit of the TCSC in addition to the role of controlling the steady state power flow. In order to show the effectiveness of controlled series capacitor, power system dynamic model is augmented and the effect of the SC into the power system dynamics is included. As a control algorithm, Linear Optimal Control theory is applied.
