  • Experimental and analytical study were conducted to develop the confined model of reinforced high strength concrete tied columns subjected to monotonically increasing concentric axial compression. Twenty-one large-scale columns(260$\times$260$\times$1200mm) used high strength concrete of 50 and 85MPa were fabricated to simulate an actual structural members size. Test results indicated that gains of strength and ductility of high strength concrete columns could be increased, if efficient arrangements and volumetric ratios of transverse reinforcements were provided. The proposed model satisfactorily predicted the experimental stress-strain curves for high strength concrete up to 100MPa.

  • In this study, one type of circular shaped composite tube was used, combined with reinforcing foam and without foam. Furthermore, CFRP(Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic) circular member manufactured from CFRP prepreg sheet for lightweight design. CFRP is an anisotropic material which is the most widely adapted lightweight structural member. The crashworthy behavior of circular composite material tubes subjected to static axial compression under same conditions is reported in this paper. Test was executed in order to compare the results to the energy absorption and collapse shape. The collapse mode during the failure process were observed and analyzed. The behavior of polymeric foams to the tubes crashworthiness were also investigated. According to the experimental results, specimens filled with foam are higher total energy absorption than the other specimens not filled with the foam.

  • The hydroforming processing is a relatively new technology in comparison with conventional stamping process. The hydroforming processing makes torsion beam in rear suspension of automobile. The durability of torsion beam is very important characteristic that operate in an automobile. In order to optimize the hydroforming process and satisfy the durability, the hydroforming simulation which could control an axial compression and high internal pressure with computer simulation has to be operated. This paper is about an optimum design to improve the kinematic and compliance characteristics of a torsion-beam of suspension system. The result from finite element analysis shows that the forming and the durability are optimized. If there is effect of First pressure in hydroforming processing that gap is in the die tool, the prototype of tube is not satisfied on the durability test.

  • Existing strut-and-tie model cannot be applied to analysis of slender beams without shear reinforcement because shear transfer mechanism is not formed. In the present study, a new strut-and-tie model with rigid joint was developed. Basically, concrete strut is modeled as a frame element which can transfer shear force (or moment) as well as axial force. Employing Rankine failure criterion, failure strength due to shear-tension and shear-compression developed in compressive concrete strut was defined. For verification, various test specimens were analyzed and the results were compared with tests. The proposed strut-and-tie model predicted shear strength and failure displacement with reasonable precision, addressing the design parameters such as shear reinforcement, concrete compressive strength, and shear span ratio.

  • A novel finite element model based on the incremental endochronic theory with the effect of temperature was developed in this study to explore the deformed behaviors of a flexible pavement material. Three mesh systems and two loading steps were used in the calculation process for a specimen of three-dimensional circular cylinder. Computational results in the case of an uni-axial compression test for temperatures at $20^{\circ}C$ and at $40^{\circ}C$ were compared with available experimental measurements to verify the ability of developing numerical scheme. The isotropic response and the deviatoric response due to the thermal effect were presented from deformations in different profiles and displacement plots for the entire specimen. The characteristics of changing asphalt concrete material under a specified loading condition might be seen clearly from the numerical results, and might provide an useful information in the field of road engineering.

  • Purpose of this study is to investigate structural behavior of the rectangular hollow column with various transverse reinforcement details. Experimental variables are diameter, arrangement details and lateral spacing of cross tie. A total of 66 column specimens have been prepared and tested under axial compressive load. Test results showed that behaviors of column specimens were different depending on the cross tie details. Specimens with cross tie wrapping longitudinal steel and transverse steel have greater strength and ductility than specimens with cross tie wrapping the longitudinal steel.

  • Stress-strain relation and stress block parameters of polymer concrete flexural compression members were experimentally investigated. For these purposes, a series of C-shaped polymer concrete specimens subjected to axial compressive load was tested. Based on the test results, we proposed an equation by which the stress-strain relation of polymer concrete can be predicted. In this model, we took account the slope of descending branch beyond the peak stress point of single curve. The proposed equation was numerically integrated to compute the rectangular stress block parameters. Computed ${\beta}_1$ was greater than the values prescribed in ACI 318 Code for cement concrete, and $\gamma$ was about 0.85 that is similar to the value regulated in the ACI.

  • In author's previous paper, a finite element algorithm was presented to calculate the buckling and crippling stresses of composite laminated stringers. In this study, for the validation of the finite element analysis, Z-section composite stringers of different lengths and flange-widths were tested in axial compression. The stacking sequence of graphite/epoxy is [$\pm$45/0/90]s. Strain gages were attached to each specimen to get the strain response. Deflection and end-shortening were obtained by a displacement transducer. The buckling and crippling loads are determined from the strain response, load vs. end-shortening curves, and load vs. out-of-plane deflection curves. Comparison between finite element and experimental results shows good agreement in the buckling, local buckling, and crippling stresses.

  • The paper presents the development of an adaptable strut-and-tie model that can be applied to the design or analysis of four-pile caps that support axial compression and biaxial flexure from a supported rectangular column. Due to an absence of relevant test data, the model is validated using nonlinear finite element analyses (NLFEA). The results indicate that the use of the proposed model would lead to safe and economical designs. The proposed model can be easily extended to any number of piles, providing a rational procedure for the design of wide range of pile caps.

  • Electrical conductivity of Al-Si-Cu-Mg alloy foams of various density produced in powder metallurgical method has been measured using two probe electrical conductivity measurement method. Compressive mechanical properties such as elastic modulus and plastic plateau stress of foams were evaluated from electrical conductivity using power law relation and scaling laws of foam properties. Uni-axial compression test was also performed. Experimentally measured elastic modulus and plastic plateau stress were compared with the values evaluated from electrical conductivity. The computed values were in good agreement with the experimental result.
