This work proposes a two-dimensional (2-D) laser scanning mirror actuator with a simple structure composed of one magnet and four coils. The mirror-actuating device generates 2-D scanning motions about two orthogonal axes by combining electromagnetic actuators of the conventional moving-magnet types. The magnet is attached to back side of the mirror placed inside of the moving frame. The four coils is placed on the base frame in a cross shape. We implement a finite element analysis to calculate magnetic flux in the electromagnetic system with the overall size of $20mm(W){\times}20mm(D){\times}13mm(H)$ for the mirror size of $8mm{\times}8mm$. The each moving-magnet type electromagnetic actuator has the motor constant 3.41 mNm/A and the restoring constant 1.75 mNm/rad and the resonance frequency of 58 Hz and the bandwidth of 80 Hz. The proposed compact and simple 2-D scanning mirror predicted advantages of large 2-D angular deflections, wide frequency bandwidth and low manufacturing cost.
To overcome the drawback of currently available curved beam theories having non-symmetric thin-walled cross sections, a curved beam theory based on centroid-shear center formulation is presented for the spatially coupled free vibration and elastic analysis. For this, the displacement field is expressed by introducing displacement parameters defined at the centroid and shear center axes, respectively. Next the elastic strain and kinetic energies considering the thickness-curvature effect and the rotary inertia of curved beam are rigorously derived by degenerating the energies of the elastic continuum to those of curved beam. And then the equilibrium equations and the boundary conditions are consistently derived for curved beams having non-symmetric thin-walled cross section. It is emphasized that for curved beams with L- or T-shaped sections, this thin-walled curved beam theory can be easily reduced to the solid beam theory by simply putting the sectional properties associated with warping to zero. In order to illustrate the validity and the accuracy of this study, FE solutions using the Hermitian curved beam elements are presented and compared with the results by previous research and ABAQUS's shell elements.
We have studied the dynamics of energy-rich hydrogen molecules produced on a graphite surface through H(g) + H(ad)/C(gr) → $H_2$ + C(gr) at thermal conditions mimicking the interstellar medium using a classical trajectory procedure. The recombination reaction of gaseous H atom at 100 K and the adsorbed H atom on the interstellar graphite grains at 10 K efficiently takes place on a subpicosecond time scale with most of the reaction exothermicity depositing in the product vibration, which leads to a strong vibrational population inversion. The molecules produced in nearly end-on geometry where H(g) is positioned below H(ad) rotate clockwise and are more highly rotationally excited. but in low-lying vibrational levels. The rotational axis of most of the molecule rotating clockwise is tilted from the surface normal by more than 30°, the intensity peaking at 35°. The molecules produced when H(ad) is close to the surface rotate counter-clockwise and are weakly rotationally excited, but highly vibrationally excited. These molecules tend to align their rotational axes parallel to the surface. The number of molecules rotating clockwise is eight times larger than that rotating counter-clockwise.

Noncircular gears have been used for obtaining the modified anglualr velocity ratio between parallel axes. The elliptical gear, which is a kind of noncircular gears, makes use of ellipse as a pitch curve, and is applied for the measurement of the discharge of liquid. The applications of an elliptical gear are more advantageous than any other mechanism as like a crank-slider linkage or a cam mechanism in view of the accuracy and the reliability to transmit the prescribed motion. In this paper, acceding to the theoretical involute tooth profile, two pairs of the elliptical gears were manufactured by using CNC wire electronic discharge machine. The proper ranges of the operating pressure angle and of module not to generate under cutting are studied on the change of the eccentricity, because it is the eccentricity of the pitch curve that determines most of the characteristics of the elliptical gear and then the vibration analysis is executed for the verification of harmonious rotating.

Servo control loops are a core part in the control architecture of machine tools. Servo control loops manage acceleration, velocity and position of all the axes in a machine tool based on commands. The performance of servo control loops sets the basis for quality of production paris and cycle time reduction. First, this paper presents a general control architecture of machine tools and several control schemes in literature, which can be applicable to machine tools control; including Zero Phase Error Tracking Control (ZPETC) and Cross Coupling Control (CCC). After that, modem control strategies to mitigate the problem of high speed machining are reviewed. In high speed machining, high accelerations excite the machine structure up to high frequencies, thereby exciting the structure's modes of vibration. These structural vibrations need to be damped if accurate positioning or trajectory following is required. Input shaping is an attractive option in dealing with structural vibrations. The advantages and drawbacks of using input shaping technique for machine tools are discussed in detail.

In this paper, we propose software algorithms which provide acceleration/deceleration characteristics essential to high dynamic performance at the transient states where industrial robots or CNC machine tools start and stop. Software acceleration/deceleration methods are derived from the mathematical analyses of typical hardware systems controlling acceleration/deceleration. These methods make servo motors, which drive axes of motion, start and stop smoothly without vibration in the repeated tools. The path error, which is one of the most significant factors in the performance evaluation of industrial robots or CNC machine tools, is analyzed for linear, exponential, and parabolic acceleration/deceleration algorithms in case of circular interpolation. The analyses show that path error consists of the distance between the required path and generated one through acceleration/deceleration, and that between the generated one through acceleration/deceleration algorithm and the actual one of the end effector of the industrial robot or tool of the CNC equipment.

In this study, we developed for processing complex features using CAM software that satisfies precision for example practice and related qualification tests suiTable for CNC training purposes. In addition, functions such as location control, speed control, and processing path generation, which are the main functions of CNC machining machines, were constructed using small equipment parts, servo motors, inverters, general purpose PCs, and commercial NC software and researched with the goal of developing low-cost education equipment. In the static accuracy inspection, the degree of machine when measuring the parallelism of the X, Y and Z axes and the vibration of the main shaft did not reach the allowable value. However, we have obtained a finished product that satisfies the CNC machine book sample shape machining, detailed functions of the position control function of the CNC machine tool, linear interpolation function, circular interpolation function, and tool offset function. In the qualification test shape processing, a shape with a degree of 1/100 mm was processed to obtain position accuracy that satisfied the tolerance.

Endoscopes for industrial and medical fields are expected to have multi degree-of-freedom (DOF) motions. A multi-DOF ultrasonic motor we developed consists of a spherical rotor and a bar-shaped stator, and the rotor rotates around three perpendicular axes using three natural vibration modes of the stator. In this study, a multi-DOF unilateral master-slave system for active endoscope using the multi-DOF ultrasonic motor is developed. The configurations of master and slave arms for active endoscope are similar, so that an operator can easily handle the master-slave system. First, driving characteristics of the multi-DOF ultrasonic motor are measured in order to design the slave arm and its controller. Next, the master arm and the slave arm are designed. Then, the unilateral feedback controller for the master-slave system is developed. Finally, the motion control tests of rotor are conducted. As a result, the possibility of the endoscope is confirmed.

Gantry mechanisms have been widely used for precision manufacturing and material handling in electronics, nuclear, and automotive industries. Dual-drive servo mechanism is a way to increase control bandwidth, in which two primary axes aligned in parallel are synchronously driven by identical servo motors. With this mechanism, a flexible coupling (compliance mechanism) is often introduced in order to avoid the damage by the servo mismatch between the primary drives located at each side of gantry. This paper describes the design guidelines of the dual-drive servo mechanism with focus on its dynamic characteristics and control ramifications. That is, the effect on the system bandwidth which is critical on the system performance, the errors and torques exerted on guide ways in case of servo mismatch, the vibration characteristics concerned with dynamic error and settling time, and the driving force required at each axis for control are thoroughly investigated.

In this study, 3-dimensional linear and non-linear vehicle models are proposed to improve ride quality. The simulations of a vehicle passing over a bump were performed with those two vehicle models. The dynamic responses of the models were analyzed in time-domain and frequency-domain. Then, discomforts in each vibration axis and the combined-axes were evaluated based on the vibrations of the proposed models. The actual vehicle test results in time domain and frequency domain. Also, the discomfort values were compared. Then the validity of those two models were verified. Also, the design parameters of the suspension system are proposed for improving the ride quality.
