Purpose: Automated guidance systems (AGSs) for mobile farm machinery have several advantages over manual operation in the crop production industry. Many researchers and companies have tried to develop such a system. However, it is not easy to evaluate the performance of an AGS because there is no established device used to evaluate it that complies with the ISO 12188 standard. The objective of this study was to develop a tracking sensor system using five laser distance measurement sensors. Methods: One sensor-for long-range distance measurement-was used to measure travel distance and velocity. The other four sensors-for mid-range distance measurement-were used to measure lateral deviation. Stationary, manual driving, and A-B line tests were conducted, and the results were compared with the real-time kinematic differential global positioning system (RTK-DGPS) signal used by the AGS. Results: For the stationary test, the average error of the tracking sensor system was 1.99 mm, and the average error of the RTK-DGPS was 15.19 mm. For the two types of driving tests, the data trends were similar. A comparison of the changes in lateral deviation showed that the data stability of the developed tracking system was better. Conclusions: Although the tracking system was not capable of measuring long travel distances under strong sunlight illumination because of the long-range sensor's limitations, this dilemma could be overcome using a higher-performance sensor.
The vehicle travel time between the demand points in downtown area is greatly influenced by complex road condition and traffic situation that change real time to various external environments. Most of research in the vehicle routing problems compose vehicle routes only considering travel distance and average vehicle speed between the demand points, however did not consider dynamic external environments such as traffic situation by service time zones. A realistic vehicle routing problem which considers traffic situation of smooth, delaying, and stagnating by three service time zones such as going to work, afternoon, and going home was suggested in this study. A mathematical programming model was suggested and it gives an optimal solution when using ILOG CPLEX. A hybrid genetic algorithm was also suggested to chooses a vehicle route considering traffic situation to minimize the total travel time. By comparing the result considering the traffic situation, the suggested algorithm gives better solution than existing algorithms.

When an expressway intersects another expressway, a unique connector needs to be designed between the two consecutive exit ramps. In such a case, it is important to design a connector such that there is enough distance for drivers to find their way safely. A current design manual in Korea prescribes the minimum length of the connector as 240 m. In this research, we have suggested a method for calculating the minimum length of a connector in order to check the feasibility of the currently prescribed length. For this purpose, we have attempted to determine the total perception-reaction time and lane-changing time required by a driver. For determining the driver's perception-reaction time, we have used the driver's decision time in addition to the conventional 2.5 s of perception-reaction time for stopping sight distances. We have considered both the design speed and the average travel speed for the calculation of the length. To evaluate the accuracy of the new method, we have chosen four sites on expressways for which relatively high accident rates were recorded. As a result, we could verify that the current limit (240 m) was sufficient for drivers to be able to change lanes in the given specific geometry. However, the prescribed limit should be revised in case the drivers' decision time is considered to be their perception-reaction time. All new approaches for calculating the ideal length of a connector have been carried out by taking into account the design speed as well as the average travel speed. Owing to the characteristics of the specific geometry for two consecutive exit ramps and the large difference between the design speed and the average travel speed in the objective areas, it is more realistic to use the proposed method by keeping the decision time equal to a driver's perception-reaction time, in order to determine the ideal distance that should be maintained between two consecutive exit ramps.
This study aims to develop a framework to estimate mobile source emissions with the macroscopic travel demand model including enhanced estimates of intra-zonal travel emissions using Space Syntax analysis. It is acknowledged that "the land-use and transportation interaction model explains the influence of urban structure on accessibility and mobility pattern". Based upon this theory, the estimation model of intra-zonal travel emissions is presented with the models of total travel distance, total travel demand, and average travel speed of intra-zonal trips. Thess statistical models include several spatial indices derived from the Space Syntax analysis. It explains that urban spatial structure is a critical factor for intra-zonal travel emissions, which is lower in compact zone with smaller portion of land area, lower sprawl indicator, and more grid-type of road network. Also the suggested framework is applied in the evaluation of the effectiveness of bicycle lane project in Suwon, Korea. The estimated emissions including intra-zonal travel is as double as the results only with inter-zonal demands, which shows better performance of the suggested framework for more realistic outcomes. This framework is applicable to the estimation of mobile source emissions in nation-wide and the assessment of transportation-environment policies in regional level.
Accurate subway demand estimation which is essential for better route selection can be achieved by the exact definition of the influence sphere of subway station. The influence was derived implicitly from the analysis of access time to the station for the cases of Seoul. Access time distribution was investigated by trip purposes, by age, by income, by sex, by travel distance, by kinds of thickets, by the location of station for the analysis of relationship between access time and socio-economic characteristics or urban structure. The difference of average access time between direct access trip and transfer trip which is found 8.6 minutes and 6.1 minutes respectively also investigated. The small difference implies poor transfer system of Seoul subway. 83.1% of subway users are coming from the distance of 10minutes' walk and average access time is 7.8minutes as a whole.
This paper aims at evaluating HSDI diesel passenger cars introduction. The result of economic analysis after accounting for the life cycle cost per car shows a saving of 13,836 thousand won in fuel cost per diesel car assuming a life of 10 years and the annual travel distance of 20,000km. Assuming an average travel distance of 20,000km and a 10% increase in sales of diesel passenger car, the social benefit starts to accrue from the year 2002 and, in 2010, is estimated to be 154.1 billion won relative to the gasoline passenger car. The cumulative social benefit up to 2010 under the same assumptions is expected to reach 636.8 billion won.
This study analyze the transfer patterns of passengers in Seoul based on transit smart card data that was observed in 2010. The smart card records maximum four times of transfer and reports that approximately 90% of trips were less than one transfer and the remains were more than 2 transfers. We focus on trips with more than 3 transfers to figure out the relationship between transit service and regional connectivities. The results show that the average travel time, distance, fare are 45 minutes, 18.3km, and 1,119(KW) respectively. We develope a map for investigating transfer patterns at a regional level(dong and gu). By doing this, three types of transfers are observed as: 1) trips of which origin and destination is either same or near, 2) trips with short distance, and 3) long distance trip with low transit connectivities.

This study proposes an integrated accessibility measurement algorithm, which is applied to the Seoul Metropolitan public transportation system consisting of bus and subway networks, and analyzes the result. We construct a public transportation network graph linking bus-subway networks and take the time distance as the link weight in the graph. We develop a time-distance algorithm to measure the time distance between each pair of transit stations based on the T-card transaction database. The average travel time between nodes has been computed via the shortest-path algorithm applied to the time-distance matrix, which is obtained from the average speed of each transit route in the T-card transaction database. Here the walking time between nodes is also taken into account if walking is involved. The integrated time-distance accessibility of each node in the Seoul Metropolitan public transportation system has been computed from the T-card data of 2013. We make a comparison between the results and those of the bus system and of the subway system, and analyze the spatial patterns. This study is the first attempt to measure the integrated time-distance accessibility for the Seoul Metropolitan public transportation system consisting of 16,277 nodes with 600 bus routes and 16 subway lines.
Single well injection withdrawal tracer tests with bromide were carried out at two wells developed in a horizontally heterogeneous fractured rock. The hydraulic conductivity of TW-1 well was 5 times larger than TW-2 well, and the average linear velocity of TW-2 well was 1.8 times faster than TW-1 well. The difference of hydrodynamic dispersions of two wells in the fractured rock was studied with the analysis of concentration breakthrough curves and cumulative mass recovery curves of bromide with withdrawal time, and the estimation of average travel distance, pore velocity, longitudinal dispersivity and longitudinal dispersion coefficient. The average travel distances of bromide were estimated to be 3.00 m in TW-1 well and 5.62 m in TW-2 well. The average pore velocities for the injection/withdrawal phase were estimated to be $4.31\;{\times}\;10^{-4}\;m/sec$ in TW-1 well and $8.08\;{\times}\;10^{-4}\;m/sec$ in TW-2 well. Average travel distance and pore velocity were higher in TW-2 well because of small effective porosity. Longitudinal dispersivities were estimated to be 28.73 cm in TW-1 well and 18.49 cm in TW-2 well, and bromide transport was 1.55 times faster in TW-1 well. Longitudinal dispersion coefficients were estimated to be $5.14\;{\times}\;10^{-6}\;m^2/sec$ in TW-1 well and $6.06\;{\times}\;10^{-6}\;m^2/sec$ in TW-2 well, and diffusion area was 1.18 times larger in TW-2 well.

In this paper, we watch out key measure of the level of transportation service about travel time and delay time. And we measured vehicle traffic by moving vehicle method using CCTV which is one of the travel time measure. We should be measured in place of continuous traffic flow characteristics with wide traffic light interval. In addition, traffic flow on the other side of the interval must be sufficiently identifiable and at the end of this section must be possible U-turn. This method it requires only the driver of the vehicle because of the CCTV measure. In addition, We cannot require time, distance, and traffic equipment that can be recorded. Because equipped with the software to do that. In addition to traffic, average travel time, average space speed, traffic density are also available.
