In this research, KP-4, one of the plastic mold steels, was coated with the AlTiN from one layer to four layers by the PVD method in the $\Phi$ 8mm cemented carbide ball end mill. Coated KP-4 was processed with various conditions. For example, slope of $15^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}$ the spindle rotation speed was changed from 10,000rpm to 16,000rpm, the tool feeding speed was changed from 1,300mm/min to 1,700mm/min, the depth of cut was also changed from 0.3mm to 0.9mm, and etc. Cutting component force according to the coating layer number, and surface roughness were studied. The cutting component force showed a good agreement better the up ward direction than the down ward direction under all experimental conditions. In case of the condition per the material shape, it was lessen when the tool have larger angle because the average effective diameter of the tool is larger. The surface roughness showed good condition in case of the up ward than the down ward direction. And, in the 3rd layer of AlTiN coating, it showed the most suitable condition.

In oxidizing nitric acid solutions, stainless steel undergoes intergranular corrosion accompanied by grain dropping and changes in the corrosion rate. For the safe operation of reprocessing plants, this mechanism should be understood. In this study, we constructed a three-dimensional computational model using a cellular automata method to simulate the intergranular corrosion propagation of stainless steel. The computational model was constructed of three types of cells: grain (bulk), grain boundary (GB), and solution cells. Model simulations verified the relationship between surface roughness during corrosion and dispersion of the dissolution rate of the GB. The relationship was investigated by simulation applying a constant dissolution rate and a distributed dissolution rate of the GB cells. The distribution of the dissolution rate of the GB cells was derived from the intergranular corrosion depth obtained by corrosion tests. The constant dissolution rate of the GB was derived from the average dissolution rate. Surface roughness calculated by the distributed dissolution rates of the GBs of the model was greater than the constant dissolution rates of the GBs. The cross-sectional images obtained were comparable to the corrosion test results. These results indicate that the surface roughness during corrosion is associated with the distribution of the corrosion rate.
The effect of inductively coupled plasma (ICP) treatment with O2 gas on the surface properties of poly(ether sulfone) (PES) was investigated. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was used to analyze the chemical characteristics of the O2 plasma-treated PES films. The surface roughness of the pristine and O2 plasma-treated PES films for different RF powers of the ICP was determined using an atomic force microscope (AFM). The contact angles of the PES films were also measured, using which the surface free energies were calculated. The O1s XPS spectra of the PES films revealed that the number of polar functional groups increased following the O2 plasma treatment. The AFM analysis showed the average surface roughness increased from 1.01 to 4.48 nm as the RF power of the ICP was increased. The contact angle measurements revealed that the PES films became more hydrophilic as the RF power of the ICP was increased. The total surface energy increased with the RF power of the ICP, resulting from the increased polar energy component.
Surface roughness plays a significant role in friction, wear, and lubrication in machine components. Most engineering surfaces have the nongaussian distrubution. So, in this study, contact simulation are conducted for not only gaussian surfaces but also nongaussian surfaces. Nongaussian rough surface censidering the kurtosis is generated numerically, And the effects of kurtosis on real contact area fraction, average gap, and mean asperity contact pressure are studied. It will be shown that the real contact area fraction and the mean asperity contact pressure are sensitive to the characteristics of surface geometry according to kurtosis.

Surface roughness plays a significant role in friction, wear, and lubrication in machine components. Most engineering surfaces have tile nogaussian height distrubution. So, in this study, elastic-plastic contact simulations are conducted for not only gaussian surfaces but also nongaussian surfaces. Nongaussian rough surface considering the kurtosis is generated numerically. The contact simulation model takes into account the plastic deformation behaviors of asperities by setting a celing on their contact pressure at material hardness value. It will be shown that the performace variables such as real contact area fraction, plastic area fraction and average gap are sensitive to the characteristics of surface geometry according to kurtosis.
Titanium has been used to satisfy various applications such as bio engineering, aerospace, electronics, automobile. Recently, micro fabrication technologies of metals such as titanium have been required to satisfy many conditions in various fields. To satisfy these demands, micro electrochemical process using laser marking can be an alternative method because it is one of the precision machining and efficient process. Micro electrochemical process using laser marking needs to accomplish form of the oxidized recast layer on metal surface by laser marking. The laser beam marking conditions such as average power, pulse repetition rate and marking speed should be properly selected to form oxidized recast layer. So, the characteristics of titanium surface according to laser marking conditions was investigated through SEM(scanning electron microscope), EDS(energy dispersive spectrometer) and surface roughness analysis.
Purpose: This study was to observe the surface and interfacial characteristic of Zirconia by surface treatment. And it was observed the roughness and contact angle according to processing, and the interfacial properties by surface treatment on zirconia. Methods: The oxide formation and ion diffusion between core and veneer ceramic were determined by the X-ray Dot Mapping of EPMA(Electron probe micro analyzer). The roughness was measured by 3D Digital microscope and the contact angle according to processing of zirconia was observed using distilled water on the surface. Results: The surface roughness of the specimens Z04, Z12, Z15 was measured $0.67({\pm}0.03){\mu}m$, $0.50({\pm}0.12){\mu}m$, $0.35({\pm}0.09){\mu}m$, respectively. As results of contact angle test, Z04, Z12, Z15 of specimen group without binder treatment was measured $46.79({\pm}3.17)^{\circ}$, $57.47({\pm}4.83)^{\circ}$, $56.19({\pm}2.66)^{\circ}$, respectively. but, L04, L12, L15 of specimen group without binder treatment was measured $63.84({\pm}2.20)^{\circ}$, $66.08({\pm}0.16)^{\circ}$, $65.10({\pm}1.01)^{\circ}$, respectively. Average contact angle of L15 was measured $65.10({\pm}1.01)^{\circ}$. In X-ray Dot Mapping results, thickness of binder including Al element was measured that each of L04, L12, L15 were $20{\mu}m$, $15{\mu}m$, $10{\mu}m$. Conclusion: The more rough surface increases the wettability, but the sintered exclusive binder decreases the wettability.
공초점 현미경을 이용하여 각 시편당 7군데에서 Rq (Root mean square roughness), Rv (Valley roughness), Rp (Peak roughness), Rc (2D Roughness), Sc (3D Roughness) 값을 측정하였고, Two-way ANOVA와 Tukey multiple comparisons test로 유의수준 0.05로 통계처리 하였다.
