A Numerical Study on the Geometry of Jet Injection Nozzle of a Coanda Control Surface

  • A jet stream applied tangential to a curved surface in fluid increases lift force by strengthening circulation around the surface and this phenomenon is known as the Coanda effect. Many experimental and numerical studies have been performed on the Coanda effect and the results found to be useful in various fields of aerodynamics. Recently, preliminary studies on Coanda control surface are in progress to look for practical application in marine hydrodynamics since various control surfaces are used to control behaviors of ships and offshore structures. In the present study, the performance of a Coanda control surface with different geometries of the jet injection nozzle was surveyed to assess applicability to ship rudders. A numerical simulation was carried out to study flow characteristics around a section of a horn type rudder subjected to a tangential jet stream. The RANS equations, discretized by a cell-centered finite volume method were used for this computation after verification by comparing to the experimental data available. Special attentions have been given to the sensitivity of the lift performance of a Coanda rudder to the location of the slit (outlet) and intake of the gap between the horn and rudder surface at the various angles of attack. It is found that the location of the water intake is important in enhancing the lift because the gap functions as a conduit of nozzle generating a jet sheet on the rudder surface.

자동차 주위에 흐르는 공기의 유동 저항에 미치는 차체의 형상 연구 (Study of the Shape of Car Body Affecting Flow Resistance of Air Flowing Near Car)

  • 공기 저항으로 인하여 자동차가 연료를 많이 소모하는 경우가 있다. 본 연구에서는 승용차 차체 주위에서의 유동해석을 이용하여 공기 흐름에 대한 그 유동 저항을 분석한다. 그리고 실제 시장에서 팔리는 차로서 그 연구 모델들을 사용하였다. CFX인 유동해석을 이용하여 유동 입구평면에 들어가는 공기의 유속은 80km/h와 110km/h인 2가지 경우로서 본 연구방법으로서 자동차가 진행시 자동차 주위의 공기 유속과 차체 뒷면의 압력을 조사하였다. 연구모델의 형상은 Model 1 및 2인 두 가지로 하였다. 그리고 Case 1, 2, 3, 4인 4가지의 유동 흐름의 경우 중에서 Case 1의 경우가 차체 뒷면의 최대압력이 $1.017{\times}10^5Pa$로 가장 큰 압력을 나타내었다. 또한 Case 1의 경우에 차체주위에 흐르는 공기의 최대 속도가 43.81m/s로서 가장 큰 압력을 나타내었다. 승용차의 고속 주행 시(110km/h)가 정속 주행(80km/h)보다 큰 공기의 항력이 나타나는 것을 알 수 있고 차체의 단면적이 넓은 차가 단면적이 작은 차보다 항력이 더 크게 나타난 것을 알 수 있다. 본 해석 결과를 이용하여 공기 저항을 줄일 수 있는 자동차 차체의 형상 설계를 효율적으로 할 수 있다고 사료된다.

  • Small hydropower resources for five major river systems have been studied. The model, which can predict flow duration characteristic of stream, was developed to analyze the variation of inflow caused from rainfall condition. And another model to predict hydrologic performance for small hydropower(SHP) plants is established. Monthly inflow data measured at Andong dam were analyzed. The predicted results from the developed models in this study showed that the data were in good agreement with measured results of long term inflow at Andong dam. It was found that the models developed in this study can be used to predict the available potential and technical potential of SHP sites effectively. Based on the models developed in this study, the hydrologic performance for small hydropower sites located in river systems have been analyzed. The results show that the hydrologic performance characteristics of SHP sites have some difference between the river systems. Especially, the specific design flowrate and specific output of SHP sites located on North Han river and Nakdong river systems have large difference compared with other river systems.

  • 초음파 센서를 이용한 호흡측정방식은 관성 및 압력의 오차의 영향을 거의 받지 않고, 반영구적으로 사용이 가능한 호흡기기이다. 초음파의 특성을 이용한 것으로 송수신시 초음파의 매질인 공기의 흐름에 의한 반송형식인 초음파의 전달속도 차이를 이용하여 호흡량 및 흐름을 detecting하는 기술이다. 본 논문에서는 환자를 중심으로 측정이 이루어져야 하기 때문에 센서의 송수신시 일어나는 신호의 sensitivity를 향상시켜서 약한 호흡에도 dectection이 가능하도록 시스템의 성능을 향상시켰다.

중부 지역 중.소하천 교량의 세굴보호공에 관한 조사연구 (Field Investigation of Scour-Protection Methods for Bridges in Small Size Streams of Central Region of Korea)

  • 우리나라와 같이 홍수시 단기간에 걸쳐 유량이 급증하는 경우 유속에 의한 교량 기초의 급격한 세굴은 예상치 못한 교량 붕괴사고를 초래할 수 있다. 세굴은 교량의 수명이나 안정성 유지에 중요한 요인으로 작용한다. 국내의 경우, 매년 약 100여 개의 크고 작은 교량이 세굴로 인하여 붕괴 및 손상을 입고 있음에도 불구하고 장 단기간에 걸친 세굴보호대책은 충분하지 않은 상태이며, 세굴의 진행정도도 얼마나 심각한 상태인지 완전히 파악되지 않은 실정이다. 이 연구에서는 우리나라 중부지역의 중 소하천을 택하여 세굴 현황 및 세굴 보호공에 관한 실태를 조사하였다. 조사 결과 교량 288개소 중에서 보호공이 있는 교량수는 전체교량의 7.3%에 불과하여 세굴에 대한 대비가 거의 없는 것으로 나타났다.

하구언 설치에 따른 하천유사량 변화에 관한 연구 (Reservoir Sedimentations of the Enclosure of Estuary Barraye in Gumgang Basin)

  • To study influences on the downstream, and the Gunsan harbor by setting up estuary of the Gumgang, available data which were collected from the measuring stations which were established within the river basin of which results attained are as follows: 1. The discharge can be calculated as the relationship between the discharge and precipitation in the basin is $R=4{\times}10^{-4}p^2$ or R=P-600 2. The discharge flow in to small resevoirs in the basin can be estimated as $QR=QS\frac{PR-600}{PS-600}(\frac{AR}{AS})$ 3. This daily average discharge at Kongju is 31% less than the during maximum probable discharge and that in Okcheon is 48% less than the daily maximum probable flood. 4. The maximum probable flood from the small stream in the basin can be estimated by a $Q=82.45A^{0{\cdot}464}$ 5. Sediments can be computed with Qs (suspended load)=1.41 $Q^{1{\cdot}42}$ and Qb (bed load)=165.2 $Q^{0{\cdot}705}$. 6. By setting up the specific estuary the tidal movement will be reduced to 93.6% on the average and the sedimentation is reduced to 96.0%. Upon review of overall analysis, the dead wate level of estuary of Gumgang will completely sedimented in next 30 years, therefore, the dredging work at Gunsan harbor is reduced to 73.6%, it is considered that life length will be extended about 52years taking account the existing condition.

HSPF 모형과 호소 물수지를 이용한 미계측 간척 담수화호 수문모델링 (Streamflow Modeling in Data-scarce Estuary Reservoir Watershed Using HSPF)

  • This research presents an streamflow modeling approach in a data-scarce estuary reservoir watershed which has been suffered from high salinity irrigation water problem after completion of land reclamation project in South Korea. Since limited hydrology data was available on the Iwon estuary reservoir watershed, water balance relation of the reservoir was used to estimate runoff from upstream of the reservoir. Water balance components in the reservoir consists precipitation, inflow from upstream, discharge through sluice, and evaporation. Estimated daily inflow data, which is stream discharge from upstream, shows a good consistency with the observed water level data in the reservoir in terms of EI (0.93) and $R^2$ (0.94), and were used as observed flow data for the streamflow modeling. HSPF (Hydrological Simulation Program - Fortran) was used to simulate hydrologic response of upstream of the reservoir. The model was calibrated and validated for the periods of 2006 to 2007 and 2008 to 2009, respectively, showing that values of EI and $R^2$ were 0.89 and 0.91 for calibration period, 0.71 and 0.84 for validation period.

New High Recovery Membrane Modules for Desalination

  • Desalination by reverse osmosis (RO), which first entered commercial use in the 1970s, was initially mainly used for treating brackish water. Technological progress led to the development of an RO membrane enabling single-pass seawater desalination. Toyobo succeeded in developing a single-pass seawater desalination RO module composed of hollow fiber type membranes made of cellulose triacetate in 1978, and then in 1979 began production of the first commercially available double-element module. This double-element module has many advantages suitable for seawater desalination. It has high chlorine tolerance and high salt rejection, derived from the properties of the membrane material, and it is highly resistant to fouling and scaling matters due to the unique flow pattern and fiber bundle configuration. These advantages help to explain why the Toyobo double-element module has been used so successfully at the many seawater desalination plants around the world. Since the 1980s, large plants capable of desalinating several tens of thousands of cubic meters a day have sprung up around the Mediterranean and In the Middle East. The Jeddah RO Phase I Plant, which has a capacity of 56, 800m$^3$/day, went into operation in 1989. In 1994, the same sized Phase II Plant came on stream, giving the plant a huge total capacity of 113, 600m$^3$/day. The plant constructor Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), and the RO membrane manufacturer Toyobo Co., Ltd. In 1998, the world's largest RO seawater desalination plant in operation, which has a capacity of 128, 000m$^3$/day and is run by Saudi Arabia's Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), went into operation at Yanbu. RO seawater desalination technology has thus already reached the stage of full-scale commercial use. In order to encourage its wider use, however, RO desalination needs to be made more economical by lowering construction and water treatment costs. Toyobo has therefore developed a new economical RO desalination system by a recovery ratio of 60% using a high-pressure module with a high product flow rate. In 2000, Toyobo high recovery membrane module was selected for the largest seawater desalination plant in Japan, which has a capacity of 50, 000m$^3$/day.

집중강우시 우리나라 밭토양의 토성과 경사에 따른 물유출 양상 (Runoff Pattern in Upland Soils with Various Soil Texture and Slope at Torrential Rainfall Events)

  • 1985년부터 1991년까지 일 강우량 80 mm 이상일 때의 유거량 자료를 이용하여 집중강우시 물유출 양상을 구명하였다. 지표유거가 발생하는 유거 발생 최소 강우량은 지표피복과 경사장에 따라 결정되는 것으로 나타났으며 토성과 경사각에 따라서는 별 차이를 나타내지 않았다. 유거 발생 최소 강우량을 기준으로 그 이후의 유거량은 강우량에 따라 직선적으로 증가하였다. 그러나 이 때의 기울기 즉, 유거율은 토성, 지표 피복형태, 경사각, 경사장에 따라 달라졌다. 유거율은 토성이 세립질로 침투속도가느릴 수록 커졌으며 콩 재배에 비해 물흐름에 대한 저항이 작은 나지에서 컸다. 또한 유거율은 경사각의 제곱근에 비례하여 증가하였으며 경사장이 길어짐에 따라 특정값에 수렴하면서 감소하였다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 집중강우 시 유거량을 모사할 수 있는 식을 다음과 같이 개발하였다. $$Runoff=a(s^{0.5}+l^b)(Rainfall-80(1-e^{-bl}))------(9)$$ 이 식에서 a는 토양의 침투특성과 관련된 토양계수, b는 지표 피복의 영향을 나타내는 지표피복계수, s는 경사각(radian), l은 경사장(m)이다. a는 토성에 따라 0.5~0.6으로 나타났으며 세립질일 수록 값이 컸다. b는 피복조건에 따라 나지에서 0.06, 콩 재배시 0.5 정도로 평가되었다.
