  • Lateral connectivity between a main channel and a former channel plays an integral role in maintaining ecological functions of stream-floodplain ecosystems. This study virtually restored the connectivity of the former channel, which is currently isolated by channelization, in the Mangyeong River, Korea. Fish habitat improvement after the connectivity restoration was evaluated using River2D, two-dimensional depth-averaged hydraulic modeling, depending on normal and flood flow conditions. Target fish species were crucian carp (Carassius auratus), which are known as lentic species, and pale chub (Zacco platypus), known as lotic species. The weighted usable area (WUA) of the two species was increased after the connectivity restoration: the two-way connection between the main and formal channels was more effective than the one-way connection. The result of the physical habitat simulation at a flood flow condition demonstrated an increased rate of the WUA than during a normal flow condition. In particular, the WUA of pale chub increased about four times on the two-way connectivity restoration. This result suggests that habitat availability of both lentic and lotic fish species will increase after a connectivity restoration, and a two-way connectivity restoration may be more effective. In addition, the restored formal channel would function as a shelter for fish during the flood season.

  • Various diseases occur in fruits, leave and roots during strawberry cultivation and cause severe economical damage and huge amount of chemical fungicide use. Recently, as consumers' interest in safety of foods and organic agriculture produces have increased, control measures using alternatives for chemical fungicides have been newly developed in various ways. This study was conducted to test antifungal activity and control effect of sodium dichloroisocyanurate (NaDCC), using as disinfectants, against major disease pathogens of strawberry, Fusarium oxysporum (Fusarium wilt), Colletotrichum gloeosporioides (Anthracnose) and Phytophthora sp. (Phytophthora blight), and Xanthomonas fragariae (bacterial angular leaf spot) and evaluate availability as environment-friendly materials. When NaDCC was treated at the concentration range of 150 to 300 ppm, it suppressed significantly hyphal growth and reduced spore germination by more than 28%. In field condition, NaDCC showed excellent control effect (control value: 50%) against the bacterial angular leaf spot disease. Based on above-described results, we suggested that NaDCC can be used as alternative candidates to chemical pesticide alternatives of for controlling strawberry diseases.

  • Nutrient removal during stem harvest was evaluated in a one-year rotation willow bioenergy plantation. For the stem nutrient content, the stem biomass and stem nutrient concentration were collected in the winter of 1987-1993 from the established willow plantation at Tully, New York, U.S.A. in 1987. Five willow clones and one hybrid poplar clone were planted. Half of the plots were fertilized annually with $336kg\;ha^{-1}$ N, $112kg\;ha^{-1}$ P, and $224kg\;ha^{-1}$ K. All trees were harvested annually. Mean annual nutrient removals of N, P, K, Ca, and Mg by annual stem harvesting over seven years were respectively 30-70, 4-10, 14-40, 19-59 and $3-5kg\;ha^{-1}$. Fertilized plants exported higher quantities of nutrients than non-fertilized ones. Nontheless, quantities of nutrients exported were well below the quantities supplied by fertilization suggesting that nutrients removal by stem harvesting is not likely to cause a decrease in soil fertility. However, in non-fertilized plots, the amount of nutrients removed could result in decrease of nutrient availability and soil fertility over the long-term. An evaluation of the clones revealed that clone SV1 is the most nutrient efficient.

  • One of the crucial elements to fully facilitate the various benefits of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) is to obtain more reliable traffic monitoring in real time. To date, point and section-based traffic measurements have been available through existing surveillance technologies, such as loops and automatic vehicle identification (AVI) systems. However, seamless and more reliable traffic data are required for more effective traffic information provision and operations. Technology advancements including vehicle tracking and wireless communication enable the acceleration of the availability of individual vehicle travel information. This study presents a UBIquitous PRObe vehicle Surveillance System (UBIPROSS) using vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) wireless communications. Seamless vehicle travel information, including origin-destination information, speed, travel times, and other data, can be obtained by the proposed UBIPROSS. A set of parameters associated with functional requirements of the UBIPROSS, which include the market penetration rate (MPR) of equipped vehicles, V2V communication range, and travel time update interval, are investigated by a Monte Carlo simulation- (MCS) based evaluation framework. In addition, this paper describes prototypical implementation. Field test results and identified technical issues are also discussed. It is expected that the proposed system would be an invaluable precursor to develop a next-generation traffic surveillance system.

  • Recently, with highly Interest In Location-Based Service(LBS) utilizing location data of moving objects, the GALIS(Gracefully Aging Location Information System) which is a cluster-based distributed computing architecture was proposed as a more efficient location management system of moving objects. In the SLDS(Short-term location Data Subsystem) which Is a subsystem of the GALIS, since the SDP(Short-term Data Processor) Master transmits current location data and queries to every SDP Worker, the SDP Master reassembles and sends query results produced by SDP Workers to the client. However, the services are suspended during the SDP Master under failure and the response time to the client is increased if the load is concentrated on the SDP Master. Therefore, in this paper, the extended SLDS was designed and implemented to solve these problems. Though one SDP Master is under failure, the other can provide the services continually, and so the extended SLDS can guarantee the high reliability of the SLDS. The extended SLDS also can reduce the response time to the client by enabling two SDP Masters to perform the distributed query processing. Finally, we proved high reliability and high availability of the extended SLDS by implementing the current location data storage, query processing, and failure takeover scenarios. We also verified that the extended SLDS is more efficient than the original SLDS through the query processing performance evaluation.

  • In order to monitor nuclear activity in inaccessible areas, it is necessary to establish a methodology to analyze changesin nuclear activity-related objects using high-resolution satellite images. However, traditional object detection and change detection techniques using satellite images have difficulties in applying detection results to various fields because effects of seasons and weather at the time of image acquisition. Therefore, in this paper, an object of interest was detected in a satellite image using a deep learning model, and object changes in the satellite image were analyzed based on object detection results. An initial training of the deep learning model was performed using an open dataset for object detection, and additional training dataset for the region of interest were generated and applied to transfer learning. After detecting objects by multitemporal and multisensory satellite images, we tried to detect changes in objects in the images by using them. In the experiments, it was confirmed that the object detection results of various satellite images can be directly used for change detection for nuclear activity-related monitoring in inaccessible areas.

  • The land cover map has been produced by using satellite and aerial images. However, these two images have the limitations in spatial resolution, and it is difficult to acquire images of a area at desired time because of the influence of clouds. In addition, it is costly and time-consuming that mapping land cover map of a small area used by satellite and aerial images. This study used multispectral camera-based drone to acquire multi-temporal images for orthoimages generation. The efficiency of produced land cover map was evaluated using time series analysis. The results indicated that the proposed method can generated RGB orthoimage and multispectral orthoimage with RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) of ${\pm}10mm$, ${\pm}11mm$, ${\pm}26mm$ and ${\pm}28mm$, ${\pm}27mm$, ${\pm}47mm$ on X, Y, H respectively. The accuracy of the pixel-based and object-based land cover map was analyzed and the results showed that the accuracy and Kappa coefficient of object-based classification were higher than that of pixel-based classification, which were 93.75%, 92.42% on July, 92.50%, 91.20% on October, 92.92%, 91.77% on February, respectively. Moreover, the proposed method can accurately capture the quantitative area change of the object. In summary, the suggest study demonstrated the possibility and efficiency of using multispectral camera-based drone in production of land cover map.

  • Angelica gigas Nakai (AGN) is a perennial herb belonging to the family Apiaceae. Its root has been utilized as a traditional medicine in Korea. Also, it contains decursin (D) and decursinol angelate (DA) as major active components. This study was performed to compare the change in content of active components and antioxidant activity between bolting and non-bolting AGN. Bolting AGN (B1) and non-bolting AGN (NB1) were harvested in the end of August. Additional non-bolting AGN (NB2) was harvested in the end of October. The total weight of B1 was 728.7 g, which was 98.5% of NB2 weight. Next, the AGN root (B1, NB1 and NB2) was divided into main root and lateral root. And the AGN aerial part (B1, NB1) was divided into flower, leaf and stem. The two active components, D and DA, and antioxidant activity were analyzed. The D content of B1 was 0.35-1.33% according to the plant parts and the DA content was 0.29-1.07%. In addition, B1 flower and leaf showed higher antioxidant activity than NB2 roots. The results show that B1 contained 15-56% of total major components compared with NB2 main roots, suggesting that B1 could be used as a potential material.

  • We are trying to evaluate usefulness of Wide Coverage Volume Axial Mode by comparing and analyzing for exposure doses to patients and video quality extracted from two materials. First material is a computer tomography scanning of paediatric cardiac made by using High Pitch Mode, which is designed for diagnosing Congenital cardiac diseases. Second material is computer tomography scanning of paediatric cardiac made by using Wide Coverage Volume Axial Mode. When we did computer tomography scanning of paediatric cardiac, we used High Pitch Mode and Wide Coverage Volume Axial Mode to 50 patients of each, overall 100 patients. Also, we compared exposure doses to patients using videos got from each protocol. Then we compared video quality by calculating SNR and CNR by setting ROI of each. Not only exposure doses to patients were reduced by 13.07 %, but also SNR and CNR were improved when testing used Wide Coverage Volume Axial Mode rather than using High Pitch Mode. Wide Coverage Volume Axial Mode reduced testing time by using high-speed scanner. Furthermore, we can find out that Wide Coverage Volume Axial Mode is an useful method through improving video quality and reducing exposure doses to patients than using High Pitch Mode from ASiR-V, which is low-dose technology.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the seasonal characteristics of water quality using long-term water quality monitoring data. Seasonal characteristics of water quality were analyzed using monitoring data from 34 tributaries where long-term monitoring was performed in the Nakdong River system, and average data analysis of water quality, coefficient of variation analysis, and trend analysis were performed for seasonal analysis. For seasonal analysis, average data analysis of water quality, coefficient of variation analysis, and trend analysis were performed. As a result of the evaluation of the coefficient of variation, tributaries were larger than main streams, and BOD, T-P, and TOC were larger in autumn and T-N were larger in spring. Trend analysis was analyzed using Mann-Kendall and Sen's Slope. BOD, T-N, and T-P tended to decrease, but TOC had a lot to increase. Through this study, it was possible to evaluate the availability of long-term water quality monitoring data and analyze seasonal characteristics, and to analyze the stabilization period of water quality and changes in pollutant sources for watershed management.
