자동차용 휠의 응력을 고려한 근사 최적 설계 (Approximate Optimization Design Considering Automotive Wheel Stress)

  • The automobile is an important means of transportation. For this reason, the automotive wheel is also an important component in the automotive industry because it acts as a load support and is closely related to safety. Thus, the wheel design is a very important safety aspect. In this paper, an optimal design for minimizing automotive wheel stress and increasing wheel safety is described. To study the optimal design, a central composite design (CCD) and D-optimal design theory are applied, and the approximate function using the response surface method (RSM) is generated. The optimal solutions using the non-dominant sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) are then derived. Comparing CCD and D-optimal solution accuracy and verified the CCD can deduce more accuracy optimal solutions.

  • This paper presents a method for designing a high power motor that is applicable to electric vehicles. Interior Permanent Magnet (IPM) type motor which has high efficiency and high durability is selected. To apply for the electric vehicles, a form, a tire and a wheel of vehicles are considered when calculating a motor performance. After calculating a motor performance, space harmonic analysis and FEA(Finite Element Analysis) is used for designing In-Wheel motor.

마그네슘 로드 휠의 유동성형 가공에 관한 연구 (A Study on Flow Forming Process of Magnesium Road Wheel)

  • Low pressure die casting and flow forming have been successfully used to produce sound road wheels from magnesium alloy AM80. In the current study, high speed compression testing was initially conducted to simulate the flow forming of a Mg wheel. Subsequently the flow forming was simulated with "Forge$^{TM}$", an FEM software package. On the basis of flow forming simulations, the flow forming of the Mg wheel was performed under different conditions. For the flow forming experiments, the preform castings were made by low pressure die casting from AM80, a commercial magnesium alloy. In flow forming of the magnesium preform wheel, the flow forming of the Mg wheel was successfully accomplished when the feed rate was less than half that for the forming of an aluminum road wheel. The reduction in feed rate was 52%. Finally, a comparison with the flow forming simulations was made.

  • In order to improve the efficiency of the design process and the quality of the resulting design, this study proposes a design method for determining design variables of an automotive wheel-bearing unit of double-row angular-contact ball bearing type by using a genetic algorithm. The desired performance of the wheel-bearing unit is to maximize system life while satisfying geometrical and operational constraints without enlarging mounting spae. The use of gradient-based optimization methods for the design of the unit is restricted because this design problem is characterized by the presence of discrete design variables such as the number of balls and standard ball diameter. Therefore, the design problem of rolling element bearings is a constrained discrete optimization problem. A genetic algorithm using real coding and dynamic mutation rate is used to efficiently find the optimum discrete design values. To effectively deal with the design constraints, a ranking method is suggested for constructing a fitness function in the genetic algorithm. A computer program is developed and applied to the design of a real wheel-bearing unit model to evaluate the proposed design method. Optimum design results demonstrate the effectiveness of the design method suggested in this study by showing that the system life of an optimally designed wheel-bearing unit is enhanced in comparison with that of the current design without any constraint violations.

  • In designing full vehicle, crash safety, fuel efficiency, exhaust gas, and driving stability are very important factors. Especially, automotive wheel which supports total vehicle weight is a critical component in view of driving stability. Most of automotive wheel have been manufactured for beautiful appearance by using aluminum alloy in domestic industry. However, the amount of automotive steel wheel used are on an increasing trend according to developing the advanced high strength steel with good formability property recently. In this study, the circumferential deviation of rim with various thickness and yield strength was investigated. The formability evaluation of the rim was developed by using a finite element module furnished by Forge software.

  • The wheel slip control systems are able to control the braking force more accurately and can be adapted to different vehicles more easily than conventional braking control systems. In order to achieve the superior braking performance through the wheel slip control, real-time information such as the tire braking force at each wheel is required. In addition, the optimal target slip values need to be determined depending on the braking objectives such as minimum braking distance, stability enhancement, etc. In this paper, a wheel slip control system is developed for maintaining the vehicle stability based on the braking monitor, wheel slip controller and optimal target slip assignment algorithm. The braking monitor estimates the tire braking force, lateral tire force and brake disk-pad friction coefficient utilizing the extended Kalman filter. The wheel slip controller is designed based on the sliding mode control method. The target slip assignment algorithm is proposed to maintain the vehicle stability based on the direct yaw moment controller and fuzzy logic. The performance of the proposed wheel slip control system is verified in simulations and demonstrates the effectiveness of the wheel slip control in various road conditions.

WAVELET ANALYSIS OF VEHICLE NONSTATIONARY VIBRATION UNDER CORRELATED FOUR-WHEEL RANDOM EXCITATION

  • The wavelet analysis method is introduced in this paper to study the nonstationary vibration of vehicles. A new road model, a so-called time domain correlated four-wheel road roughness, which considers the coherence relationships between the four wheels of a vehicle, has been newly developed. Based on a vehicle model with eight degrees of freedom, the analysis of nonstationary random vibration responses was carried out in a time domain on a computer. Verification of the simulation results show that the proposed road model is more accurate than previous ones and that the simulated responses are credible enough when compared with some references. Furthermore, by taking wavelet analysis on simulated signals, some substantial rules of vehicle nonstationary vibration, such as the relationship between each vibration level, and how the vibration energy flows on a time-frequency map, beyond those from conventional spectral analysis, were revealed, and these will be of much benefit to vehicle design.

스틸휠의 체결력에 따른 조향휠 진동에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Steering Wheel Vibration affected by the Fastening Torque of the Wheel Mounting Hub Bolts of Steel Wheels)

  • The steel wheels are widely used in the passenger cars because of their low cost of production although the aluminum wheels have many advantages in their performance and appearance. It is known that the steering wheel vibration with steel wheels is generated more often than one with aluminum wheels. Both the constant velocity driving test and the m up test are carried out in this study to analyze the causes and path of the steering wheel vibration generated from the steel wheels. And this study shows that the steering wheel vibration is affected by the fastening torque of the wheel mounting bolts between the steel wheel and the suspension disk.

  • Automotive wheel bearing grease helps to reduce stresses and prevent wear of wheel bearings. But it is easily contaminated by water and other contaminants. In this study, we investigated the property change of automotive wheel bearing grease under water contamination. The result showed that some properties such as dropping point, work penetration and oxidation stability were not influenced by water content. However, most of properties such as work stability, water washout characteristics, leakage tendency, oil separation, evaporation loss and rust protection became worse after water was added. This is thought that added water makes the interaction weak between thickener and base oil of grease.

차륜용 베어링 유니트의 수명에 대한 설계변수 기여도 해석 (Effects of Geometric Parameters on the Life of an Automotive Wheel Bearing Unit)

  • Automotive wheel bearings are one of the most important components to guarantee the service life of a passenger car. The endurance life of a bearing is affected by many parameters such as material properties, heat treatment, lubrication conditions, temperature, loading conditions, bearing geometry, internal clearance and so on. In this paper, we analyze the relation between loads and deformations of wheel bearing units. On the basis of it we calculate the endurance life of wheel bearing units and analyze the contribution of bearing geometric parameters on the endurance life by using Taguchi method.
