Statistical Analysis of Patients Attending the Department of Acupuncture and Moxibustion Medicine at DaeJeon Korean Medicine Hospital: from March 2015 to February 2020

  • Background: This study was designed to statistically analyze the year, gender, age, insurance type, and condition/disease of patients who were admitted to the Department of Acupuncture and Moxibustion Medicine at DaeJeon Korean Medicine Hospital over a 5-year period (2015-2020). Methods: Patients who visited the Department of Acupuncture and Moxibustion Medicine at DaeJeon Korean Medicine Hospital were classified according to year, gender, age, insurance type, and condition/disease. The statistical analysis was performed using IBM SPSS 23.0. Results: There is an increasing number of patients attending the Department of Acupuncture and Moxibustion Medicine year-on-year over the 5-year period, with a higher frequency of females than males each year. The largest age groups represented in these patients were those aged in their 50s, followed by those aged in their 40s, and 60s. Furthermore, the number of patients using health insurance was greater than those using automobile insurance each year. Of the 5,061 patients, the most common group was the patients (n = 991) who reported sprain and strain of cervical spine, followed by lumbar spine, lumbar herniation of the intervertebral disc, and facial paralysis. Conclusion: The number of patients seeking traditional Korean medicine treatment continues to increase, particularly in the 40s to 60s age group, with a larger proportion using health insurance and sprain or strain of the cervical spine. The results of this study may be used as a local (Daejeon) reference to develop Korean medicine policies, such as setting up medical benefits for patients using Korean medicine hospitals.

Effect of a Workplace-Based Work-Conditioning Program on Management of Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a workplace-based work-conditioning program (WCP) on the management of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMDs) in an automobile-parts manufacturing company. In total, 1,110 subjects with WRMDs participated in workplace-based WCP emphasizing function-centered management and ergonomics. We investigated the incidence of WRMDs variables (number of persons diagnosed with industrial accident-related WHMDs, number of cases of WRMD) and financial benefits (cost of workers' compensation insurance and lost work days related to WRMDs) per year before and after WCP. Additionally, we compared self-reported pain intensity and functional disability in subjects with musculoskeletal pain before and after the WCP. Pain intensity was measured using a visual analog scale (VAS), and functional disability was measured by the neck disability index (NDI) and the Oswestry disability Index (ODI). The number of person diagnosed with industrial accident-related WRMDs, the number of cases of WRMD, the cost of workers' compensation insurance and lost work days related to WRMDs per year decreased by 51%, 37%, 34%, and 47%, respectively, and VAS, NDI, and ODI scores decreased significantly after implementation of WCP (p<.05). Thus, the results of the present study suggest that function-centered, workplace-based WCP was effective in managing WRMDs at an automobile-parts manufacturing company.

  • 데이터마이닝은 우리가 완벽하게 알고 있지 못하는 데이터 집합으로부터 알려지지 않은 사실이나 규칙을 찾아내는 작업이기 때문에 항상 높은 오류율의 위험에 처해 있다. 다중모델은 하나의 문제에 다수의 모델을 사용함으로써 오류율을 줄이고자 하는 접근 방법이다. 본 연구에서는 데이터마이닝의 예측 성능을 개선시킬 수 있는 새로운 방식의 다중모델을 제시한다. 이 다중모델은 입력사례의 특성에 따라 그에 적합하게 개발된 모델이 선정되어 적용되는 특징을 가지고 있다. 제시된 다중모델의 현실적인 성능 검증을 위해 국내 자동차 보험 가입 고객의 이탈 예측 문제에 적용하여, 그 결과를 단일모델의 결과와 비교 평가하였다. 비교 대상 단일모델로는, 사례기반추론, 인공신경망, 의사결정나무 등이 사용되었는데, 다중모델의 예측 성능이 어떤 단일모델의 예측 성능보다 우수한 것으로 나타났다.

  • 차량용 블랙박스는 교통사고 예방 및 원인 규명을 위해 충분한 정보를 제공하고, 그 정보 데이터베이스는 개인의 사생활 침해를 최소화하는 범위에서 적절하게 공개되어 전 국민에게 다양한 서비스를 제공할 수 있다. 따라서 차량용 블랙박스는 정부 기관이나 보험 업체뿐만 아니라 관련 업계 전체에 긍정적 파급 효과가 큰 지능형 요소 부품이다. 본 논문에서는 차량용 블랙박스의 도입이 추진되고 있는 현 상황에서 차량용 블랙박스의 기술적 내용과 국내외 기술 현황을 조사하고, 국내외에서 출원된 특허 분석을 통하여 차량용 블랙박스에 대한 특허 출원 현황 조사 결과와 핵심 특허 기술의 심층 분석 내용을 제시한다. 또한, 국내외에서 진행되고 있는 표준화/법제화 동향 등을 서술하고, 이에 대한 대응방안으로서 표준화 제정 및 블랙박스 제품기술 개발 방안들을 함께 제시한다.

  • In the FY 2003, the number of registered vehicles in Korea reached 14 million, which is 7.7% increase from the previous year. The increase of number of vehicles has caused a lot of social problem with enormous costs. The social costs related to the vehicles includes environmental costs resulting from pollution and scraping of vehicles, those resulting from life-saving and repairing from car accidents and so on. There have been m any efforts to reduce the social costs in m any areas. As a part of the efforts, there are recent grow ing interests on the damageability & repairability in related industries. In this study, we investigated the cases of two different types of bum per stay. Futhermore, we analyzed their effects on damageability & repairability and reduction of repair cost. So we found that if the manufacturers design new cars with good damageability & repairability, then the total repair cost in crash will be reduced.

교통사고 조사 및 재현에서 신형 전자식운행기록계의 신뢰성에 관한 연구 (Study on Reliability of New Digital Tachograph for Traffic Accident Investigation and Reconstruction)

  • Recently Digital-TachoGraph(DTG) was mounted mandatorily in commercial vehicles(Taxi, Bus, etc.). DTG records accurate and detailed information of the running state of vehicles related to traffic accident, such as Time, Distance, Velocity, RPM, Brake ON/OFF, GPS, Azimuth, Acceleration. Thus those standardized data can play an important role in traffic accident investigation and reconstruction. To develope the accurate and objective method using the DTG data for the reconstruction of traffic accident, we had conducted several tests such as driving test, high speed circuit test, braking test, slalom test at Korea Automobile Testing & Research Institute(KATRI), and collision test at Korea Automobile insurance repair Research and Training center(KART) with the vehicle equipped with several DTG. Development of the program which enables the reading and analysis of the DTG data was followed. In the experiments, we have found velocity error, RPM error, brake signal error and azimuth error in several products, and also non-continuous event data. The cause of these errors was deduced to be related to the correction factor, the durability of electronic parts and the algorithm.

항공보험 가입의무에 관한 연구 (A study on mandatory insurance for aircraft operators)

  • 본 연구는 우리나라의 항공보험 의무가입제도의 현황을 파악하고 외국 입법례와의 비교를 통해 우리 실정에 알맞은 합리적이고 구체적인 기준을 제시하고자 한다. 이를 통해 현행 법령의 개정방향을 밝혀 개선을 유도하고 궁극적으로 적절한 항공보험으로 항공기를 이용하는 우리 국민의 안전과 재산이 담보될 수 있는 환경을 조성하는 것을 목표로 한다. 특히 2017년 새롭게 시행된 항공사업법과 그 하위법령을 검토함으로써 향후 항공보험에 관한 입법적 개선방향을 제시하고 이로써 입법적 오류, 시행착오 등을 최소화할 수 있을 것으로 본다. 사고 발생 시에 수많은 인명과 재산이 손실되는 항공사고의 전손성, 순간성, 거대성이라는 특성을 감안할 때 항공운송산업의 지속적 성장을 유지하고 피해자를 위한 원만한 배상이 가능하도록 하기 위해서는 항공운송인에 의한 적절한 항공보험의 가입과 유지가 필수적이다. 이런 측면에서 근대 사법체계의 대원칙인 계약자유의 원칙을 수정하는 항공보험 가입의무의 강제가 설득력을 가지게 되는 것이다. 다만 외국의 입법례와 비교하여 우리나라의 항공보험 가입의무에 관한 법규정은 다음과 같은 쟁점들을 중심으로 재정비될 필요가 있을 것으로 본다. 첫째, 항공운송인에 대해 적절한 수준의 항공보험의 가입과 유지를 강제하는 것은 국가의 개인에 대한 금전적 의무를 강제하는 성격을 가지게 되므로 시행규칙이 아닌 본법에 규정되는 것이 타당할 것으로 생각된다. 이와 같은 규정의 태도는 다른 외국의 입법례에서 흔히 목격되는 사항이다. 둘째, 우리 법 규정은 "국제협약에서 규정하는 책임한도액"이라는 문구를 사용함으로써 여라 가지 다양한 경우의 항공손해배상에 대응하고 있다. 하지만 본문에서 살펴본 바와 같이 국제협약 중에서 어떠한 수단(legal tools)이 사용되는가에 따라 배상범위가 달라지는 점, 오늘날 승객에 대한 손해배상을 규율하는 몬트리올 협약은 항공운송인의 과실이 있는 경우 그 책임한도액이 철폐된 점, 책임한도액이 철폐된 점, 그리고 지상 제3자의 손해에 관한 로마협약체계에는 우리나라가 가입하고 있지 않은 점 등을 고려할 때 "국제협약에서 규정하는 책임한도액"은 더 이상 만병통치약이 되지 못한다. 셋째, 우리나라와 같이 좁은 영토를 가진 국가에서는 국내운송과 국제운송이 비행시간이나 거리에서 큰 차이가 있다. 따라서 항공보험 가입의무에 있어서도 국내운송과 국제운송을 나누어 규율할 필요가 있을 것으로 본다. 이러한 이중적 규율은 항공운송업에 새롭게 진출하고자 하는 신생 항공사에게 국제운송과 같은 필요 이상의 보험가입을 강제하지 않아도 되는 장점이 있다. 넷째, 무인비행장치의 사고에 따른 항공보험에 자동차손해보험을 준용하는 것은 무인비행장치 사고에 관한 특성을 충분히 이해하지 못한 것으로 보인다. 향후 무한한 발전가능성을 가진 무인비행장치에 관한 보험은 장기적인 관점에서 일반적인 항공보험과 분리하여 규율하는 것이 타당할 것으로 생각된다.

한국의 5개 한의과대학 부속한방병원 재활의학과의 요통 입원 환자에 대한 후향적 기술통계분석 - 입원 기간, 상병명, 치료 방법을 중심으로 - (A Descriptive Statistical Analysis of the Hospitalized Patients with Low Back Pain in Departments of Korean Rehabilitation Medicine of Korean Medicine Hospitals)

  • Objectives Low back pain (LBP) is one of the most common reason for people in Korea to visit Korean medical institutions. To assess actual amounts of use in the treatment of LBP in Korean medicine and to provide objective base line data for policy decision making, research regarding the current state of LBP patients' treatment in Korean medical institutions are in need. Methods The current study was designed as a retrospective chart review to investigate descriptive characteristics of LBP patients. The clinical records of 304 patients who were hospitalized for the treatment of LBP in Korean rehabilitation medicine inpatient clinics of five different Korean medicine hospitals were analyzed. The percentage of patient characteristics such as sex, age, average duration of admission, insurance type, diagnosed LBP related disease code, and rates of interventions applied were assessed. Results 1. The female sex was significantly predominant among patients with LBP : 105 patients (34.5%) were male and 199 patients (65.5%) were female. Percentage of the patients' age appeared as followed : 76 people (25.0%) were in their 50s, 64 people (21.1%) were in their 40s, 51 people (16.8%) were in their 30s, 37 people (12.2%) were in their 60s, and 33 people (10.9%) were in their 70s. Approximately half of the total LBP patients investigated were older than 50. 2. The average duration of admission was 16.2 days. Approximately one third (30.3%) of the patients were hospitalized for 8 to 14 days. 3. Female patients tended to stay admitted in hospitals slightly longer than male patients. Elderly (age 60~79) patients stayed in hospitals longer (17.8 days) compared to younger (age 20~39) patients (13.5 days). 4. More than half of the patients (171 cases, 56.3%) had their hospital bills covered with automobile insurance. 40.1% (122 cases) of the patients had medical insurance to cover their hospital bills. The average duration of admission of patients who had automobile insurance was 14.2 days, while that of the patients who had medical insurance was 18.4 days. 5. "Sprain and strain of the lumbar spine and pelvis" was the most commonly used (195 cases, 64.1%) disease code in patients with LBP. Patients diagnosed as "lumbar and other intervertebral disc disorders with radiculopathy" required the longest admission duration (22.1 days). 6. Herbal medication was applied to all of the patients during admission. Acupuncture was applied to all of the patients except one case diagnosed as spinal stenosis. Physical therapy, cupping therapy, moxibustion therapy, chuna therapy, and pharmacopuncture therapy were applied to 94.7, 92.8, 85.2, 83.9, and 49.7% of the patients, respectively. 7. There were certain differences among Korean medicine hospitals in terms of the LBP patients' duration of admission, type of insurance, frequency of the disease code use, type of intervention applied. Conclusions It is thought that the current study can be used as reference data in assessing the current state of LBP treatment in Korean rehabilitation medicine and a basis for future research. Provided improvements of certain limitations of the current study in future researches, such data would act as better base line data in policy decision making.

차대 차 정면층돌사고 시 고령자 상해 특성 연구 (A Study on Injury Characteristics of Elderly in Car-to-Car Frontal Crashes)

  • One of the most important factors that affect a person's risk of injury in a motor vehicle crash is the age of the person. This study investigates the characteristics of crash injuries among young, middle-aged and older drivers and occupants. Based on the comprehensive claim data from automobile insurance from 2000 to 2007, this study examines in great detail the drivers and occupants injury body regions and severity by age in car-to-car frontal crashes. It has been shown that elderly drivers and occupants suffer more injuries at a chest region compared to the middle-aged group. This research calls attention to the need for design to make vehicles more protective for older drivers in car-to car frontal crashes.

  • The research committee for automobile repairs (RCAR), an international body of insurance research centers, has adopted the typical low speed crash test based on an average damage level in crash accidents to estimate the damageability , repairability and safety. The characteristics of body acceleration and the probability of injury are investigated based on damaged components, accelerations of body and injured dummy to analyze damageability and the driver's safety under low speed crash environment. It is found from the experimental results that the probability of head and thorax injuries are very low comparing to the injury criteria of FMVSS No.208. Furthermore, it is suggested that the deployment of airbag may not be necessary at RCAR low speed frontal crash test.
