In this paper, the valves for a LPG gas cylinder have been investigated on the body height and weight by comparing design data between typical automatic shut-off vertical and newly developed horizontal valves. The height of an automatic shut-off horizontal valve is radically reduced by 41~42% compared with that of a typical automatic shut-off vertical valve. And, the body weight of a horizontal valve is also reduced by 29~40% compared with that of a vertical shut-off valve. This result is just achieved by a structural design modification from typical vertical valve to horizontal arrangement of various valve components.

Currently, all domestic CNG vehicles have manual cylinder valves installed. These are inconvenient for drivers in case of a gas leak accident, because drivers have to stop the vehicle operation and manually close the valve. It makes difficult condition for drivers to quickly and properly respond to such accidents. In advanced European countries, they require Automatic cylinder valve installation, which has a structure where the valve is automatically shut off when the driver turns off the ignition in case of a gas leak. If this electric valve system is introduced in Korea, the safety of CNG buses will be improved with better functionalities. In this paper, in order to solve the structural problem of difficulty for a driver to identify the operational status of individual Automatic cylinder valves, an approach was made regarding temperature increase with pressure increase during CNG filling. it was estimated that the temperature increased approximately more than $30^{\circ}C$ due to pressure difference during the filling. Therefore, it was concluded from the experimental data that the valve of the container whose temperature did not increase did not operate, resulting in filling failure.
Flow Coefficients of intake port in an engine cylinder head were measured by a newly designed flow rig. In measuring the flow coefficient with traditional method, the valve lift was manually varied by technician with adjusting a micrometer which is directly connected to the intake valve of the cylinder head. The cam shaft of the cylinder head is directly rotated by a step motor and the valve lift was automatically varied with cam shaft profile in the newly designed flow rig. The measurement of the flow coefficient was automated by rotating the cam shaft with the step motor. Automatic measurement of the flow coefficient could be safely measured by separating a technician from the noise and vibration of the traditional flow rig. Also, the automatic measurement of the flow coefficient reduce the measurement time and provide meaningful statistical data.
FCV is installed with a automatic valve attached in an high pressure cylinder to control the hydrogen flow. The supply of hydrogen from the cylinder into the fuel cell stack is controlled via the on/off operation of a solenoid attached to the automatic valve. The solenoid needs to provide the necessary attraction force even at any saturation temperature caused by drive of the vehicle. In this study, the simplified prediction equations for the saturation temperature are suggested. The finite element analysis was performed by steady state technique, according to the boundary condition in order to predict the saturation temperature and attraction force. Finally, the saturation temperature was validated through comparison between the analysis results and measurement results. From the results, the measured saturation temperature $5.9^{\circ}C$ lower with respect to the analysis results. And the error of attraction force ranged from 1.0 to 2.1 N at testing conditions.

The semi-active recoil system provides automatic hydraulic pressure and recoil length by an exteral impulse compared with the conventional recoil system. We developed the proto type of recoil system and validated the performance through simulation and experiment. The main issue of the system is how to adjust pressure and length simultaneously. The system consists of external pressure control valve and flow control valve outside of cylinder. The pressure control valve control the cylinder pressure and recoil length. The controlled system enhances the control performance.

A swirl ratio of a charge in the cylinder could be calculated by measuring both the rotary speed of paddle and the intake air flow rate in the swirl measurement apparatus fur several positions of valve lift. The automation of the swirl ratio measurement for a cylinder head is achieved by controlling both the valve lift of cylinder head and a suction pressure of the surge tank, instead of controlling them manually. PID control of the surge tank pressure and positioning a valve lift of the cylinder head are also achieved by using two step motors, respectively. Rotating speed of a paddle are measured using an optical sensor and a counter. Flow rate are measured from ISA 1932 flow nozzle by reading a differential pressure gauge position using IEEE-1394 camera. Time to measure the swirl ratio for a port in the cylinder head is drastically reduced from an hour to 3 minutes by automation control of the apparatus.

A double-end rod hydraulic cylinder is widely used with a steering valve for the steering control system in large tractors. For the development of automatic steering controller, the feasibility of using a proportional control valve replacing the conventional manual steering valve to control the position of hydraulic steering cylinder was investigated in terms of the max. overshoot, the steady-state error and the rise time. A simulation model for the electrohydraulic steering system with load using AMESim package was developed to be valid so that the proper control algorithm could be chosen through the computer simulation. It could be concluded that the P-control algorithm was sufficient to control the electrohydraulic steering system, where the control frequency should be no greater than 20 Hz at the P-gain of 5. In particular, the performance of the developed steering controller was satisfactory even at the conditions of varying flow rates and loads.
This paper presents the FEM analysis results on the deformation behavior safety of automatic cut-off horizontal and conventional vertical gas valves. Based on the FEM analysis, the primary maximum deformation of $4.4{\mu}m$ was formed on the right end side of a valve body when the internal gas pressure was supplied on the screw port and gas discharge port of an automatic cut-off horizontal gas valve. And the secondary maximum deformation of $2.9{\mu}m$ was formed on the end side of safety valve port. This small deformation of an automatic cut-off horizontal gas valve is strongly related to the balanced design of a horizontal gas valve main body, which is composed of a screw part, gas outlet port, port for a stem and spindle shaft assembly, and safety valve port. But, the primary maximum deformation of 0.076mm was formed on the upper part of a conventional automatic cut-off vertical gas valve when the internal gas pressure was supplied on the screw port and gas discharge port. And the secondary maximum deformation of 0.055mm was formed on the left end side of a gas outlet port. This may effect on the sealing clearance of o-ring that is inserted on the groove of an automatic cut-off unit. Thus, this paper recommends an automatic cut-off horizontal gas valve compared with that of a conventional gas valve for a gas leakage free mechanism of a LPG cylinder valve.

In this paper, dynamic characteristics of an AT clutch system were investigated considering the dynamics of check ball and hydraulic control valves. Dynamic model of a pressure control solenoid valve (PCSV) was obtained by Bondgraph and permeance method. Also, the clutch piston and check ball dynamics were modeled by considering the effect of centrifugal force of the oil entrapped in the clutch chamber. In order to validate the dynamic models obtained, plunger displacement of PCSV and pressure response of the clutch supply lines were compared with the available experimental data, which were in good accordance with the numerical results. Using the dynamic model of the clutch system, simulations were performed to investigate the effect of the rotational speed on the response of clutch cylinder pressure, clutch piston and check ball displacement, and oil flow rate into the cylinder and flow rate out of the check valve.
Of all of pneumatic components utilized in the make up of pneumatic circuits on either automatic assembly machine or industrial equipment, the pneumatic cylinder is more oriented toward being a structural as well as a pneumatic member. The structural design must be based to a large degree on the end of application of the cylinder on the equipment it is operating. In this paper, design studies of a double-acting pneumatic cushion type cylinder with low-friction and high-speed driving have been developed. Of interest here is to investigate the structural analysis of cylinder tube, piston rod, end cover, and to analyze the buckling of piston rod. Also, a relief valve type cushion mechanism is considered. This cushion mechanism is found to be adequate under a high-speed driving of pneumatic cylinders.
