  • This paper presents an automated visual inspection/measuring system for the door inner panel manufacturing process. The main objective of this research is to develop inspection applications with a machine vision system related to the determination or quantification of parameters such as dimension, shape, quality of surfaces, number of holes in a panel, and presence or absence of specific features. For quality measurements, we showed a subpixel image processing technology that will improve the consistency of results and level of precision. Also presented is a data analysis method th detect process shifts so that corrective action can be undertaken before more defective units are manufactured.

  • Austomated visual inspection(AVI) capability has become an important key component in the automated manufacturing system. In such a visual inspection system an intensity(or color) image of a scene is quickly affected by optical property of objects, condition and roughness of surface, lens and filters, image sensor property and lighting system. In particular, the lighting system disign is the most important factor, since it affects overall performance of the visual system. For fast and cheap automated visual inspection system it is important to obtain the good image quality which results from careful attention to the design of the lighting system. In this paper, the lighting subsystem of AVI system is analysed for the inspection of printed circuit board(PCB) patterns. The spectral reflectance of materials, which are composed of PCB, is measured for choosing the light source. The reflection property is theoretically obtained by a reflection model and also obtained by experiments which measure intensity with varying the viewing direction of image sensor and the lighting direction of illuminator. The illumination uniformity of a ring-type illuminator. The lighting system is designed based upon the experimental results and theoretial analysis.

  • This paper describes the development of a simulator which can numerically calculate an image to be acquired in a machine vision system for automated optical inspection. The simulator is based on a ray tracing technique and composed of three modules which are an illuminating system, a specimen and an imaging system. Kinds of model parameters for modules and their values are carefully chosen from the direct measurement and the observation of related phenomena. Finally, the validity of the simulator is evaluated by logical analysis and by comparison with measured images.

  • In this paper, we have developed an automated computer aided diagnostic (CAD) scheme by using artificial neural networks(ANN) on guantitative analysis of chest photofluorography. The first ANN performs the detection of suspicious regions in a low resolution image. This was trained specifically on the problem of detecting abnormal regions digitized chest photofluorography. The second space matching method was used to distinguish between normal and abnormal regions of interest(ROI). If the ratio of the number of abnormal ROI to the total number of all ROI in a chest image was greater than a specified threshold level, the image was classified as abnormal.

  • DSM (Digital Surface Model) is a digital representation of ground surface topography or terrain that is widely used for hydrology, slope analysis, and urban planning. Aerial photogrammetry and LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) are main technology for urban DSM generation but high-resolution satellite imagery is the only ingredient for remote inaccessible areas. Traditional automated DSM generation method is based on correlation-based methods but recent study shows that a modern pixelwise image matching method, SGM (Semi-Global Matching) can be an alternative. Therefore this study investigated the application of SGM for Kompsat satellite data of KARI (Korea Aerospace Research Institute). Firstly, the sensor modeling was carried out for precise ground-to-image computation, followed by the epipolar image resampling for efficient stereo processing. Secondly, SGM was applied using different parameterizations. The generated DSM was evaluated with a reference DSM generated by the first pulse returns of the LIDAR reference dataset.

  • Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have recently been gaining popularity in the medical image analysis field because of their image segmentation capabilities. In this paper, we present a CNN that performs automated brain tumor segmentations of sparsely annotated 3D Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans. Our CNN is based on 3D U-net architecture, and it includes separate Dilated and Depth-wise Convolutions. It is fully-trained on the BraTS 2018 data set, and it produces more accurate results even when compared to the winners of the BraTS 2017 competition despite having a significantly smaller amount of parameters.

  • Facial wrinkles are widely used to evaluate skin condition or aging for various fields such as skin diagnosis, plastic surgery consultations, and cosmetic recommendations. In order to effectively process facial wrinkles in facial image analysis, accurate wrinkle segmentation is required to identify wrinkled regions. Existing deep learning-based methods have difficulty segmenting fine wrinkles due to insufficient wrinkle data and the imbalance between wrinkle and non-wrinkle data. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a new facial wrinkle segmentation method based on a UNet++ model. Specifically, we construct a new facial wrinkle dataset by manually annotating fine wrinkles across the entire face. We then extract only the skin region from the facial image using a facial landmark point extractor. Lastly, we train the UNet++ model using both dice loss and focal loss to alleviate the class imbalance problem. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed method, we conduct comprehensive experiments using our facial wrinkle dataset. The experimental results showed that the proposed method was superior to the latest wrinkle segmentation method by 9.77%p and 10.04%p in IoU and F1 score, respectively.

  • Accurate quantification of plant physiological properties is often necessary for optimal control of an automated greenhouse production system. Conventional crop growth monitoring systems are usually burdensome, inaccurate, and harmful to crops. A thermal image analysis system was used to accomplish rapid and accurate measurements of physiological-property changes of water-stressed crops. Thermal images were obtained from several species of plants that were placed in a growth chamber. Analyzing the images provided the pattern of temperature changes in a leaf and the amount of differences in the temperature of stressed plants and non-stressed plants.

  • For the commercialization of automated vehicles, it is necessary to create various scenarios that can evaluate driving safety and establish a data system that can verify them. Depending on the vehicle's ODD (Operational Design Domain), there are numerous scenarios with various parameters indicating vehicle driving conditions, but no systematic methodology has been proposed to create and combine scenarios to test them. Therefore, projects are actively underway abroad to establish a scenario library for real-world testing or simulation of autonomous vehicles. However, since it is difficult to obtain data, research is being conducted based on simulations that simulate real road. Therefore, in this study, parameters calculated through individual vehicle trajectory data extracted based on roadside CCTV image-based driving environment DB was proposed through the extracted data. This study can be used as basic data for safety standards for scenarios representing various driving behaviors.

  • Cardiac function is evaluated quantitatively using angiographic images via the analysis of the shape change or the heart wall boundaries. To kin with, boundary defection or ESLV(End Systolic Lert Ventricular) and EDLV(End Diastolic Left Ventricular) is essential for the quantitative analysis of cardiac function. The boundary detection methods proposed in the past were almost semi-automatic. Intervention by a knowledgeable human operator was still required Of con, manual tracing of the boundaries is currently used for subsequent analysis and diagnosis. This method would not cut excessive time, labor, and subjectivity associated with manual intervention by a human operator. EDLV images have noncontiguous and ambiguous edge signal on some boundary regions. In this paper, we propose a new method for automated detection of boundaries in noncontiguous and ambiguous EDLV images. The boundary detection scheme which based on a priori knowledge information is divided into two steps. The first step is to detect the candidate edge points of EDLV using ESLV boundaries. The second step is to correct detected boundaries of EDLV using the LV shape. We developed the algorithm of modifying EDLV boundaries defined adaptive modifier. We experimented the method proposed in this paper and compared our proposed method with the manual method in detecting boundaries of EDLV. In the areas within estimated boundaries of EDLV, the percentage of error was about 1.4%. We verified the useflilness and obtained the satisfying results througll the experiments of the proposed method.
