Localization Requirements for Safe Road Driving of Autonomous Vehicles

  • In order to ensure reliability the high-level automated driving such as Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) and universal robot taxi provided by autonomous driving systems, the operation with high integrity must be generated within the defined Operation Design Domain (ODD). For this, the position and posture accuracy requirements of autonomous driving systems based on the safety driving requirements for autonomous vehicles and domestic road geometry standard are necessarily demanded. This paper presents localization requirements for safe road driving of autonomous ground vehicles based on the requirements of the positioning system installed on autonomous vehicle systems, the domestic road geometry standard and the dimensions of the vehicle to be designed. Based on this, 4 Protection Levels (PLs) such as longitudinal, lateral, vertical PLs, and attitude PL are calculated. The calculated results reveal that the PLs are more strict to urban roads than highways. The defined requirements can be used as a basis for guaranteeing the minimum reliability of the designed autonomous driving system on roads.

  • In this paper, the model-matching control in the longitudinal autonomous driving system is investigated by vehicle dynamics simulation, which contains nonlinear subcomponents and simplified subcomponents. The design of the robust model-matching controller is performed by the characteristics of the 2 degrees of freedom controller, which is composed of the feedforward compensator and the feedback compensator. It makes the characteristics of tractive and brake force to be equivalent to the specific transfer function, which is suggested as the reference model. Mathematical models of vehicle dynamic analysis including the model-matching control are constructed for computer simulation. Then, simple examples on open-loop simulation without any controller and closed loop simulation with the model-matching controller are applied to check the validity of the robust controller. As the practical example, the autonomous driving system in the longitudinal direction is adopted. It is proved that the model-matching control is effective and adequate to the disturbances and the perturbations, which are shown in the responses of the change of a vehicle mass and a road gradient.

정밀도로지도 공간관계 참조객체의 속성 입력 자동화에 관한 연구 (A Study on Automated Input of Attribute for Referenced Objects in Spatial Relationships of HD Map)

  • 최근 4차 산업혁명 핵심 중 하나인 자율주행의 기술이 발전하고 있지만 예상하지 못한 상황에서 사고가 발생하는 등 센서 기반 자율주행에 한계를 보이고 있어, 이를 보완하기 위해 정밀도로지도는 자율주행의 핵심 인프라로 활용되고 있으며, 공공 및 민간에서 관심이 높아지면서 정밀도로지도의 최신성과 정확성 확보를 위한 다양한 연구와 기술개발이 이루어지고 있다. 현재 국토지리정보원은 자율주행차의 운행이 많을 것으로 예상되는 수도권 등 전국 도심지역 및 주요도로를 대상으로 확대 구축 중이며, 기 구축된 구간 중 도로변화가 발생한 지역의 신속갱신 체계를 마련하고, 품질검증을 통해 데이터 오류율 최소화를 위해 노력하고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 국토지리정보원에서 구축 중인 정밀도로지도의 신속, 정확한 갱신과 제작을 위해 속성 구조화 공정에서 참조객체의 공간관계를 분석하고, 오픈소스 기반 PyQGIS의 라이브러리를 활용하여 공간관계가 성립되는 참조객체의 속성입력 자동화 방법론을 적용하여, 고속국도·일반국도·C-ITS(Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems)실증구간 등 도로유형별로 대상지를 선정하여 자동화를 실시하였다. 본 연구에서 개발한 속성자동화 도구를 활용하여 공간관계 참조객체의 속성을 자동으로 입력하는데 대상지별 약2~5분의 시간이 소요되었으며, 참조객체 속성입력 자동화 결과 고속국도 86.4%, 일반국도 79.7%, C-ITS의 경우 82.4%, 평균 82.8%의 속성입력 정확도를 확보하였다.

Gradation Image Processing for Text Recognition in Road Signs Using Image Division and Merging

  • This paper proposes a gradation image processing method for the development of a Road Sign Recognition Platform (RReP), which aims to facilitate the rapid and accurate management and surveying of approximately 160,000 road signs installed along the highways, national roadways, and local roads in the cities, districts (gun), and provinces (do) of Korea. RReP is based on GPS(Global Positioning System), IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit), INS(Inertial Navigation System), DMI(Distance Measurement Instrument), and lasers, and uses an imagery information collection/classification module to allow the automatic recognition of signs, the collection of shapes, pole locations, and sign-type data, and the creation of road sign registers, by extracting basic data related to the shape and sign content, and automated database design. Image division and merging, which were applied in this study, produce superior results compared with local binarization method in terms of speed. At the results, larger texts area were found in images, the accuracy of text recognition was improved when images had been gradated. Multi-threshold values of natural scene images are used to improve the extraction rate of texts and figures based on pattern recognition.

미시교통시뮬레이션 기반 도심도로 자율협력주행 서비스 효과 분석 (Impact Analysis of Connected-Automated Driving Services on Urban Roads Using Micro-simulation)

  • Level 3 자율주행차의 상용화가 가시화됨에 따라 자율주행차의 운행설계영역(ODD)이 고속도로 외 도심도로로 확대될 필요가 있다. 본 연구는 도심도로 내 인프라-자율차 간 협력주행 기반의 자율주행차 서비스에 대한 교통운영효율성 및 안전성 측면의 효과평가를 통해 도심도로 자율협력주행 서비스의 실효성을 분석하였다. 도심도로 자율협력주행 서비스의 구현 및 효과평가는 미시교통시뮬레이션모델을 활용하였으며, 각 서비스별 중점관리목표에 따른 개별적인 효과평가 지표를 선정하여 효과 분석에 활용하였다. 분석 결과, V2X 통신 기반의 자율협력주행 서비스를 통해 자율주행차량의 교통운영 효율성과 안전성이 향상됨을 확인하였고, 그 효과는 자율주행차의 시장점유율이 증가할수록 커지는 것으로 분석되었다. 본 연구는 단속류인 도심도로를 대상으로 V2X 통신 기반의 자율협력주행 서비스의 효과를 도출해낸 것에 의의가 있으며, 향후 자율협력주행 서비스 검증 기반이 마련되는데 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

시험도로 건설과 계측시스템 구축 (A Review of Instrumentation System and Construction of Korea Highway Test Road)

  • The cost needed for the construction and management of highways in the whole nation is rapidly growing so the research that can decrease the cost is required. However, most of the highway specs have simply converted from those of other countries, including USA. Therefore, some of our design and construction specs were not the optimum ones based on our own situation, requiring a research under the actual traffic and environment of our nation. The use of test road develops many aspects of highway engineering. Those are evaluation of construction materials, a general overview of korea pavement design and serviceability under the actual traffic and environmental condition of the nation. It is also economical and efficient compared to the trial construction of each item in spreaded form. A test road, 7.7km long with two lanes, is being constructed on the Inner Central Expressway. In this test road, 2.7km is planned for asphalt pavement and 3.4km is planned for concrete pavement. Three test bridges and five earth retaining structures will be included in the test road. Based on the master plan, the major performance was progressing such as detailed research modules of each area, preliminary research for the future research, sensor surveys for the behavior analyses of pavements and structures with installation methods and data acquisition systems, the foundation research of Integrated Instrumentation System and the Management Plan for automated measurement. Some area(structure research division, geotechnical research division) was designed the instrumentation plan because some instrument sensors must be installed during the construction of the test road. And then the instrumentation plan of each area was enforcing because a large majority of the instrument sensors must be installed after the construction of the test road. The field surveys with material property tests and pilot instrumentation test with sensor tests was also performing in accordance with the construction in the field.
