Wing weight estimation considering constraints of structural strength and stiffness in aircraft conceptual design

  • According to the requirement of wing weight estimation and frequent adjustments during aircraft conceptual design, a wing weight estimation method considering the constraints of structural strength and stiffness is proposed to help designers make wing weight estimations rapidly and accurately. This method implements weight predictions on the basis of structure weight optimization with stiffness constraints and strength constraints, which include achievement of wing shape parametric modeling, rapid structure layout, finite element (FE) model automated generation, load calculation, structure analysis, weight optimization, and weight computed based on modeling. A software tool is developed with this wing weight estimation method. This software can realize the whole process of wing weight estimation with the method and the workload of wing weight estimation is reduced because much of the work can be completed by the software. Finally, an example is given to illustrate that this weight estimation method is effective.

  • OpenBR is a framework for researching new facial recognition methods, improving existing algorithms, interacting with commercial systems, measuring perceived performance, and deploying automated biometric systems. Designed to facilitate rapid algorithm prototyping, it features a mature core framework, flexible plug-in system, and open and closed source development support. The established algorithms can be used for specific forms such as face recognition, age estimation, and gender estimation. In this paper, we describe the framework of OpenBR and implement facial recognition, gender estimation, and age estimation using supported programs.

Automated 2D/3D Image Matching Technique with Dual X-ray Images for Estimation of 3D In Vivo Knee Kinematics

  • Quantitative information of a three dimensional(3D) kinematics of joint is very useful in knee joint surgery, understanding how knee kinematics related to joint injury, impairment, surgical treatment, and rehabilitation. In this paper, an automated 2D/3D image matching technique was developed to estimate the 3D in vivo knee kinematics using dual X-ray images. First, a 3D geometric model of the knee was reconstructed from CT scan data. The 3D in vivo position and orientation of femoral and tibial components of the knee joint could be estimated by minimizing the pixel by pixel difference between the projection images from the developed 3D model and the given X-ray images. The accuracy of the developed technique was validated by an experiment with a cubic phantom. The present 2D/3D image matching technique for the estimation of in vivo joint kinematics could be useful for pre-operative planning as well as post-operative evaluation of knee surgery.

  • Automated driving systems require a high level of performance regarding environmental perception, especially in urban environments. Today's on-board sensors such as radars or cameras do not reach a satisfying level of development from the point of view of robustness and availability. Thus, map data is often used as an additional data input to support these systems. An accurate digital map is used as a powerful additional sensor. In this paper, we propose a new approach for vehicle localization using a lane map and a single-layer LiDAR. The maps are created beforehand using a highly accurate DGPS and a single-layer LiDAR. A pose estimation of the vehicle was derived from an iterative closest point (ICP) match of LiDAR's intensity data to the lane map, and the estimated pose was used as an observation inside a Kalmanfilter framework. The achieved accuracy of the proposed localization algorithm is evaluated with a highly accurate DGPS to investigate the performance with respect to lateral vehicle control.

  • The purpose of this thesis is the propose of various signal processing algorithm for the ECG(electrocardiogram) and the design of realtime automated ECG analyzer feasible with these algorithms. The algorithms are composed of (1)filtering procedure fer the estimation and removal of baseline drift, 60Hz power line interference, and muscle artifacts (2)detection procedure of QRS complex and P wave (3)typification procedure for the pattern classification according to the morphologies (4) selection of representative beat, significant point and wave boundary decision procedure and (5) parameter extraction and diagnosis procedure. All verifications are carried out between the algorithms proposed in this paper and other algorithms already proposed by many researchers, for the objective comparison in each procedure. The efficiency of proposed algorithms are demonstrated with the aid of internationally validated CSE database and the performances of filtering procedure are compared on artificial noise signal as well as actual ECG signals with appropriate noise components. for the comparison on the performance of designed automated ECG analyzer, the diagnosis results were compared with ECG analyzer manufactered by Fukuda denshi in Japan.

  • In general, Automated Storage/Retrieval Systems (AS/RS ) have racks of equal sized cells to utilize the concept of unit-load. Most of the techniques for the performance estimation of a unit-load AS/RS are a static model or computer simulation. Especially, their models were developed under assumption that the Storage/Retrieval (S/R) machine performs only single command (SC) or dual command (DC). In reality, defending on the operating policy and the status of the system at a particular time, the S/B machine performs a SC or a DC, or becomes .: idle. In order to resolve these weak points, we propose a stochastic model for the performance estimation of unit-load AS/RS by using a single-server queueing model.   • In this study, authors have proposed the autonomous state estimation which has been composed with IEC61850, GPS time synchronization and objective model design concept. The proposed method is able to supervise/correct measurement and communication error from SCADA. The major advantages of the proposed autonomous state estimation are that it is possible to evaluate integrity of data measured and transferred from SCADA, to reduce human intervention and to expense national-size applications such as EMS (Energy Management System), WAMS (Wide Area Monitoring System) or WAPS (Wide Area Protection System). This study addresses the issues related to the operation of the smart grid and proposes a new automated approach to achieve this goal. Through applying the proposed system to IEEE 14-bus test electric system, we prove the possibility of the proposed idea.

  • Estimation and removal procedures for baseline drift have been developed using linear, cubic spline, and bilineared transformed high pass filter. Linear and cubic spline interpolation with the PQ and TP segmens, which are considered to be isoelectric, as fiducial points ahve been estimated respectively. For a quantitative validation of the estimation procedure, 4 ECGs with arfificial baseline drift were constructed and analyzed by mean square error calculations and amplitude histograms. Also real ECGs were analyzed in a test set of the CSE data set 3 and set 4. Baseline drift detecton rule were designed and new method for the decision of fiducial point were constructed to avoid distorting as the case of premature ventricular or atrial contraction. From these comparison, proposed cubic spline method with PQ and TP segment (CS_PQ & TP) emerged as the most efficient method.

  • As part of the study on the development of the setting time estimation system, this study attempted to confirm the change in hardness values for each influencing factor variable and secure its reliability. According to the research results of this paper, the hardness value of the setting time estimation system tended to gradually decrease in the case of the hardness value of the closing time by curing temperature, and the hardness value increased in the concrete state compared to mortar. Therefore, further research on influencing factors will be conducted in consideration of material and statistical factors in the future.

  • Quantity information focused on a design drawing plays a critical role in a decision making related to cost for project participants during project life cycles. Related participants absolutely depend on quantity take-off working which produces the quantity information by hand, and then a worker's mistake often causes many errors. The difference of quantity by the know-how of the person in charge of the estimation also occurs. In addition, the worker passes through the whole quantity take-off processes again in case of re-working for quantity take-off produced by a change order. The requirements about the automated estimation increase because of the needs for the accurate quantity take-off and dealing with the change order and recently, the studies about the automated estimation working process based on 34 cad model from 3d cad modeler are attempted in various viewpoints. However, the existing studies reach the limits such as common quantity data type framework for getting Quantity information. Focused on a certain 34 cad modeler and BIM based automation of estimation using it Therefore, the objective of this study is to develop the a series of system which can extract, analyze, and verify Quantity Data Type in modeler to automate quantity take-off originated from various 3d cad modelers as a foundation study for BIM based automation of estimation framework.
