  • Recently, two degrees of freedom PID control systems have attracted attention, because of their better process control quality for both set point variable tracking and disturbance resistivity than that of conventional PID control systems. This paper describes a new auto-tuning method for the two degrees of freedom PID control system based on a newly developed model matching method in the frequency domain. This new method has been introduced into a two degrees of freedom PID auto-tuning controller, named AdTune TOSDIC-21D8. The superior features of the controller and the results of field tests Are presented.

고속 광 픽업 장치의 강인 서보 제어 (Robust Servo Control of High Speed Optical Pickups)

  • Recently, optical disk drives are increasingly demanded to have higher speed as well as high information density, especially for applications like CD ROM drives. To this end, improvement of their optical pickup structure and control is recognized the very challenging issue. In this paper, the pickup is first analytically modelled in a plane to describe its coupled auto-focusing and auto-tracking motions. Subsequently, the model is linearized and combined with actuator dynamics for the auto-focusing system. With its unmeasurable parameters being estimated based on experimental data, an approximate I-DOF linear model is obtained neglecting the coupling term. To design the high speed and robust positional servo controller realistic design specifications are addressed, and H control method is employed based on the approximate model. Finally, taking the pickup in a commerical high speed CD ROM drive as an example performance of the designed controller is verified through realtime experiments.

  • Optical axis misalignment, which represents the position deviation of the objective lens from the optical axis, is an inevitable assembly error in an optical pick-up. Since the laser power intensity varies with respect to the distance from the optical axis, the misalignment leads to variation of the laser spot power intensity, which is one of the critical factors increasing data bit-error-rate in optical disc drives. In this paper, an auto-adjustment scheme for optical axis alignment is proposed to eliminate the undesirable variation of the laser spot power intensity in optical disc drives. An envelope of the data RF signal is extracted and utilized to detect the optical axis misalignment. Then an adjustment input is added to the driving input of the tracking actuator to shift the objective lens to the optical axis. Finally, the feasibility is verified by experiments.

  • 본 논문에서는 진동과 열에너지를 이용한 자동 스위칭 에너지 하베스팅 회로를 제안한다. 열전소자와 진동소자로부터 출력되는 에너지는 최대 가용전력지점이 개방전압의 1/2로 같기 때문에 동일한 MPPT(Maximum Power Point Tracking) 제어회로를 사용할 수 있다. 제안된 회로는 하나의 MPPT 제어회로를 사용하고, 자동 스위칭 기능을 적용하여 열전소자의 출력과 진동소자의 출력을 모니터링하여 전압이 더 큰 소자로부터 최대 가용전력을 수확한다. 제안된 회로는 $0.35{\mu}m$ CMOS 공정으로 설계하였으며, 모의실험을 통해 동작을 검증하였다. 설계된 회로의 칩 면적은 PAD를 포함하여 $1.4mm{\times}1.2mm$이다.

  • This paper describes the development of a 3-DOF laparoscopic assistant robot system with motor-controlled bending and zooming mechanisms using the voice command motion control and auto-tracking control. The system is designed with two major criteria: safety and adaptability. To satisfy the safety criteria we designed the robot with optimized range of motion. For adaptability, the robot is designed with compact size to minimize interference with the staffs in the operating room. The required external motions were replaced by the bending mechanism within the abdomen using flexible laparoscope. The zooming of the robot is achieved through in and out motion at the port where the laparoscope is inserted. The robot is attachable to the bedside using a conventional laparoscope holder with multiple DOF joints and is compact enough for hand-carry. The voice-controlled command input and auto-tracking control is expected to enhance the overall performance of the system while reducing the control load imposed on the surgeon during a laparoscopic surgery. The proposed system is expected to have sufficient safety features and an easy-to-use interface to enhance the overall performance of current laparoscopy.

  • The objectives of this research are development of guidance, navigation and control system for RUAV on virtual instrumentation and real flight test. For this research, the system is divided to DAQ (data acquisition) section, actuator section and controller section. And the hardware and software on each sections are realized on LabVIEW base. Waypoint guidance and control of auto flight are realized using PID gain tuning and waypoint vector tracking guidance algorism. For safe flight test, auto/manual switching module isolated from FCS (Flight Control System) is developed. By using the switch module, swift mode change was achieved during emergency flight case. Consequently, a meter level error of flight performance is achieved.

  • Sliding mode control guarantees robustness in the presence of modeling uncertainties and external disturbances. However, this can be obtained at the cost of high control activity that may lead to chattering As one way to alleviate this problem a boundary layer around sliding surface is typically used. In this case the selection of controller gain, control ban width and boundary layer thickness is a crucial problem for the trade-off between tracking error and chattering. The parameter tuning is usually done by trail-and-error in practice causing significant effort and time. An auto tuning method based on fuzzy rules is proposed in the paper in this method tracking error and chattering are monitored by performance indices and the controller tunes the design parameters intelligently in order to compromise both indices. To demonstrate the efficiency of the propose method a mass-spring translation system and a roboic control system are simulated and tested It is shown that the proposed algorithm is effective to facilitae the parameter tuning for sliding mode controllers.

  • This paper presents yaw moment control for modification of steering characteristic in rear-driven vehicle with front in-wheel motors (IWMs). The proposed control algorithm is designed to modify yaw rate response of the test vehicle. General approach for modification of steering characteristic is to define the desired yaw rate and track the yaw rate. This yaw rate tracking method can cause the chattering problem because of the IWM actuator response. Large overshoot and settling time in IWM torque response can amplify the oscillation in control input and yaw rate. To resolve these problems, open-loop IWM controller for cornering agility was designed to modify the understeer gradient of the vehicle. The proposed algorithm has been investigated via the computer simulations and the vehicle tests. The performance evaluation has been conducted on dry asphalt using E-segment test vehicle. The performance of the proposed algorithm has been compared to general yaw rate tracking algorithm in the vehicle tests. It has been shown that the proposed control law improved the cornering agility without chattering problem.
