An Architecture for 3D Audio Core Algorithm Evaluation DB (3차원 입체 음향 핵심 알고리즘 평가를 위한 DB 설계)

  • In this paper an architecture for 3D audio core algorithm evaluation database system. Due to increase of 3D audio system through multimedia device, an evaluation system is required for evaluating the 3D core algorithms for developing 3D audio system. Conventional evaluation systems have some problems. Researchers have to learn usage of evaluation system, in addition it is inefficient to use and search audio sources because audio sources are not indexed in general. To solve these problems, we design the architecture of 3D audio core algorithm evaluation database system enabling to automatically evaluate core algorithms using database management system. Also we define XML metadata scheme for information of saved audio source in database. This approach allows improving efficiency of search audio source and use of audio database.

  • Recently with the advancement of local wireless communication technologies, digital trends of audio contents and devices are paving the way for new experiences to network-based audio streaming services. In this paper, we present the Wireless Audio Sharing (WASH) technology over Bluetooth and Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN). WASH system provides an audio sharing mechanism over multiple users and also provides stereo audio streaming between Bluetooth-enabled devices and Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) media devices connected to wired/wireless LANs. To achieve these, we extended the Bluetooth audio distribution profile and combined the extended profile with the UPnP AV architecture. With the implementation of this WASH technology, we show some experimental results of the stereo audio streaming in a real environment.

  • Various methods of data compression have been developed to handle data within limited storage capacity and limited transmission speed. Recompression technology, a technology most recent among them, is a technology that can embed data regardless of the information entropy of a data. Recompression technology separates original multimedia data in to blocks and embeds 0 or 1 according to whether each block is flipped or not. In this paper, this technology has been applied on audio files. And was able to implement reversible watermarking for audio files.

  • This paper describes a study on the digital watermarking algorithm which is used to confirm the copyright protection of digital audio data. The digital audio watermarking algorithm based on psychoacoustic model is used for the inaudibility of the watermark data. The psychoacoustic model which is a key algorithm in MP3 audio compression is analyzed by MATLAB simulation, and is applied to digital audio watermark insertion.

  • Recently, communication components prefer Bluetooth or Zigbee for PAN. However, using these makes expensive and complicated products such as audio equipments, mobile phones, PC, etc. for transmitting simple messages with low rate. In this paper, we propose wireless communication method using ultrasonic in the audio frequency limit band with speakers and microphones which are in products. We suggest transmitting and receiving methods in the audio frequency limit band for transmitting data without affecting audio signal, and implement an ultrasonic communication modem. Finally, we verify the performance of the ultrasonic communication modem by experiments in an environment with background noise.

  • Nowadays, there are many innovative products in the pro-audio market thanks to advanced IT technology, DSP is very important technology to process high quality audio signal in SR(Sound Reinforcement) system. Digital audio technology that converged with IT technology can give new user-experience. In this paper, we present a new digital crossover system for active speakers using DSP and network technology. The prototype of crossover module consists of various audio process module such as filters, delay, phase controls and also it provides user to remote monitoring and remote control features by internet connection.

Limitations of Analyzing Metadata and File Structure of Audio Files for Legal Evidence: Focusing on Samsung Smartphones (법적 증거 능력을 위한 오디오 파일의 메타데이터 및 파일 구조 분석의 한계: 삼성 스마트폰을 중심으로)

  • Today, as the number of audio files submitted as legal evidence increases with the proliferation of smartphones, the integrity of audio files has become an important issue. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to explore whether the metadata and file structure of audio files recorded on Samsung smartphones can be manipulated to be identical to the original. This study was based on Samsung smartphones, the most widely used in Korea, and conducted experiments on the built-in voice recording app and the 'Easy Voice Recorder' app, which is the most popular recording app. Through the experiments of this study, it was proven that the metadata and file structure of audio files can be manipulated. Therefore, this study reveals that metadata and file structure analysis have limitations in proving the integrity when audio files are analyzed for adoption as legal evidence. They also argue for the need to develop new voice file forgery technology that does not rely on metadata and file structure analysis.

A Synchronization Scheme Based on Moving Average for Robust Audio Watermarking

  • The synchronization scheme based on moving average is robust and suitable for the same rule to be adopted in embedding watermark and synchronization code, but the imperceptibility and search efficiency is seldom reported. The study aims to improve the original scheme for robust audio watermarking. Firstly, the survival of the algorithm from desynchronization attacks is improved. Secondly, the scheme is improved in inaudibility. Objective difference grade (ODG) of the marked audio is significantly changed. Thirdly, the imperceptibility of the scheme is analyzed and the derived result is close to experimental result. Fourthly, the selection of parameters is optimized based on experimental data. Fifthly, the search efficiency of the scheme is compared with those of other synchronization code schemes. The experimental results show that the proposed watermarking scheme allows the high audio quality and is robust to common attacks such as additive white Gaussian noise, requantization, resampling, low-pass filtering, random cropping, MP3 compression, jitter attack, and time scale modification. Moreover, the algorithm has the high search efficiency and low false alarm rate.

Intelligent User Pattern Recognition based on Vision, Audio and Activity for Abnormal Event Detections of Single Households

  • According to the KT telecommunication statistics, people stayed inside their houses on an average of 11.9 hours a day. As well as, according to NSC statistics in the united states, people regardless of age are injured for a variety of reasons in their houses. For purposes of this research, we have investigated an abnormal event detection algorithm to classify infrequently occurring behaviors as accidents, health emergencies, etc. in their daily lives. We propose a fusion method that combines three classification algorithms with vision pattern, audio pattern, and activity pattern to detect unusual user events. The vision pattern algorithm identifies people and objects based on video data collected through home CCTV. The audio and activity pattern algorithms classify user audio and activity behaviors using the data collected from built-in sensors on their smartphones in their houses. We evaluated the proposed individual pattern algorithm and fusion method based on multiple scenarios.

A Scalable Audio Coder for High-quality Speech and Audio Services

  • In this paper, we propose a scalable audio coder, which has a variable bandwidth from the narrowband speech bandwidth to the audio bandwidth and also has a bit-rate from 8 to 320 kbits/s, in order to cope with the quality of service(QoS) according to the network load. First of all, the proposed scalable coder splits bandwidth of the input audio into narrowband up to around 4 kHz and above. Next, the narrowband signals are compressed by a speech coding method compatible to an existing standard speech coder such as G.729, and the other signals whose bandwidth is above the narrowband are compressed on the basis of a psychoacoustic model. It is shown from the objective quality tests using the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) and the perceptual evaluation of audio quality(PEAQ) that the proposed scalable audio coder provides a comparable quality to the MPEG-1 Layer III (MP3) audio coder.
