  • According to previous studies, it shows that the metacognitive ability that makes the positive element of the problem solver positively affects the problem-solving process of mathematics. In order to accurately grasp causality, this study investigates the specific characteristics of the meta-affect factor in the process of problem-solving. To do this, we analyzed the types and frequency of data collected from collaborative problem-solving situations composed of 4th~6th grade mathematically gifted children in small group of two. As a result, it can be seen that the type of meta-affect in the problem-solving process of mathematically gifted children is related to the correctness rate of the problem. First, regardless of the success or failure of the problem-solving, the meta-affect appeared relatively frequently in the meta-affect types in which the cognitive factors related to the context of problem-solving appeared first, and acted as the meta-functional type of the evaluation and attitude. Especially, in the case of successful problem-solving of mathematically gifted children, meta-affect showed a very active function as meta-functional type of evaluation.

  • This study targeting 10 high school 3rd grade students who have studied space figures in natural sciences track analyzes the process of analogical discovery from the construction of inscribed and circumscribed circles of a triangle to that of inscribed and circumscribed spheres of a tetrahedron through the analytical method using Geogebra. The subjects are divided into two groups of five, the experimental group consisting of those who have experienced analytical method and the comparative group consisting of those who haven't. This research analyzing the process of constructing inscribed and circumscribed spheres of a tetrahedron. Although students of both groups all have an accurate preliminary knowledge of inscribed and circumscribed circles of a triangle, they have difficulty in constructing inscribed and circumscribed spheres of a tetrahedron. However, the students of experimental group who have studied the constructing process of inscribed and circumscribed circles of a triangle in reverse using analytical method and Geogebra can perform analogical discovery finding out the way to construct inscribed and circumscribed spheres of a tetrahedron using analogy by themselves. They can control and explore space figures by visualization. Also, they can immediately examine and provide feedback on the analogizing process of their own. In addition, the process affects the attitude of students toward mathematics positively as well as gives validity to the result of analogy.

  • The major goals of this study are to find the factors that enhance self-directed math learning in college math classes and to provide the students with the opportunities to check and develop their self-directed math learning attitude. For these research goals, we prepared the questionnaires that asked about their learning motivations, basic learning ability, self-discipline strategies, and self-directed learning strategies. Another purpose of the questionnaires was to give them the chances to check and improve their attitude toward those learning strategies, motivation and ability. From the research results, we find that the important factors for self-directed learning are internal & external motivations, concentration ability, and the goal-setting and plan-making abilities. In addition, concentration ability, good habit, stress-control, recognition of math value, and self-directing ability are found to be necessary for the desirable learning environment. On the other hand, we find that the ability to perform note-taking, class preparation and review, time-control, and test-control is required for the selection and practice of self-fitting learning strategies. Finally, we provided our own self-directed math learning model. Our model, containing the necessary factors for self-directed math learning, is the revised and modified one of Knowles(1975)'s 5 stage self-directed learning model that comprises diagnosis of learning desire, setting learning goals, grasping human&material resources, selection and practice of proper learning strategies, and evaluation of learning results.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop teaching-learning materials for informal activities geared toward teaching the nature and structure of proof, to make a case analysis of the application of the developed instructional materials to students in an elementary gifted class, to discuss the feasibility of proof education for gifted elementary students and to give some suggestions on that proof education. It's ultimately meant to help improve the proof abilities of elementary gifted students. After the characteristics of the eight selected gifted elementary students were analyzed, instructional materials of nine sessions were developed to let them learn about the nature and structure of proof by utilizing informal activities. And then they took a lesson two times by using the instructional materials, and how they responded to that education was checked. An analysis framework was produced to assess how they solved the given proof problems, and another analysis framework was made to evaluate their understanding of the structure and nature of proof. In order to see whether they showed any improvement in proof abilities, their proof abilities and proof attitude were tested after they took lessons. And then they were asked to write how they felt, and there appeared seven kinds of significant responses when their writings were analyzed. Their responses proved the possibility of proof education for gifted elementary students, and seven suggestions were given on that education.

  • In this study, in regard to the change of the paradigm to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), we have looked into the ways to apply scientific inquiry through the arts, discussed the educational implications for the ways to step forth with the science and the arts in educational field. In the development of the strategies related to the optical illusion arts, to make sure that the design-oriented science education to reach its goal to make effective teaching, students need to be understood in the method of the artistic designs. Totally it had two rounds for inspection about operation of the convergence with curriculum. As a result, students changed attitude to concentrate in class naturally while doing their art work, participating in person rather than simply looking. It is caused by the scientific approach to strategy of illusion arts. In addition, we could see that students change into a proactive manner as well as teachers comments that they are communicate and make a complete the work with others. A lot of researches give that science can provide the ideas as a method to arts, arts can provide creative ideas to science, but it is still lacking that research can be applied to education specifically on how to. An efforts in the number of collaborative research will continue to introduce, as this study STEAM of science and arts in the field of education be shifted paradigm.
