The purpose of this study is to evaluate an education program to take care of the elderly in the rural area. The education program that includes 4 sessions are carried out in the community center. The 4 sessions are to understand rural elderly and volunteer role, help elderly's daily living, aid elderly to use welfare services and support the elderly's leisure. The subjects were 30 persons under 60 years of age living in Jangseong and Hoengsung villages. By paired t-test, knowledge on caring and the attitude for elderly and volunteer showed significant differences between before and after the education program. After the training, 66.7% of the subjects answered 'yes' to the question that asked whether they would like to participate in caring volunteer for neighboring elderly. Subjects's positively changed attitude can stimulate positive behavior that eventually enables them to provide high quality services. The satisfaction of the program showed high scores for contents, place and operation of education.
This study is to verify the effects of sensory education based on classroom activities for $2^{nd}$ and $3^{rd}$ grade children. The hypothesis is that children who participated in sensory education would demonstrate positive changes in eating behaviors through sensory experiences. The sensory education program consists of 12 lessons. Twenty-six children were being recruited from one school in Changwon, Korea. Two control groups, one of which was the same age as the educated group and the other group of sixth graders, were selected by random sampling from the same school. Children answered a self-administered questionnaire. The parents (n = 20) of the children who participated in the program, took part in evaluating the program through self-administered questionnaires after the program ended. The questionnaire contained variables of general characteristics, education satisfaction, nutrition knowledge, eating attitude and behavior concerning unfamiliar foods. The score of nutrition knowledge was improved in educated children (P < 0.05). Food neophobia score towards unfamiliar foods (P < 0.05) was increased in educated children, but there are no changes in eating behaviors in all groups towards unfamiliar foods. In conclusion, sensory education is useful for having a positive eating attitude among children. Its consistent implementation could lead to healthier and well-balanced eating behaviors for children.
Substance abuse among teenagers has been spreading widely and become a serious social problem. However, teachers hardly realize its importance. Recently, substance abuse prevention programs show a tendency towards one time education. This study aims to research the effect of substance abuse prevention on high school students using the Life Skills Training Program. Two classes(36 students in the experimental group, 35 in the control group) at W High School in Daejeon were randomly sampled for this study from May to June 2002. Substance knowledge and attitude, problem solving, and assertiveness were examined as Pre and Post-Tests. The data was analyzed using frequencies, t-test, means, and covariance(ANCOVA). The results of this study were as follows; 1. Compared with the control group, substance knowledge in the experimental group was significantly improved(F=176.317, P=.000). And compared with the control group, substance attitudes in the experimental group were improved significantly.(F=207.682, P=.000). 2. Compared with the control group, cognitions to problem solving in the experimental group was significantly improved(F=100.937, P=.000). 3. Compared with the control group, assertiveness behaviors in the experimental group were increased significantly(F=207.255, P=.000). The study showed that Substance Abuse Prevention of High School Students was effective in improving substance knowledge and attitude, cognition to problem solving, and assertiveness behavior. Some suggestions based on the result are as follows; 1. Substance abuse preventive programs must be practiced properly and systematically with high school students in their regular classes. 2. Various preventive education programs must be developed for substance abuse where high school students can join in a community center, such as Community Welfare Center, Alcoholic Counseling Center, and Mental Health Center. 3. For the furthering of substance abuse preventive education, there must be continued research about not only students with problems of substance misuse and abuse, but also students without them. 4. There must be early determination of students with problems of substance misuse to be able provide school social workers with the opportunity for intervention.
The purpose of the present study was to assess food hygiene and safety knowledge, attitudes, and practices of food-service personnel in school food-service programs and to find factors affecting their knowledge, attitudes, and practices. A self-administered questionnaire was offered to a random sample of 40 kitchen employees in elementary schools in one region of Korea, with 37 completing the survey, a response rate of 92.5%. The survey was carried out over a two-month period (April-May, 2001). Knowledge score of the employees was high with a mean/standard deviation of 4.75/0.32 on a 5.0-point scale. They had significantly lower attitude score (4.55$\pm$0.33) and practice score (4.55$\pm$0.45) compared to the score of knowledge (p<0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that (1) the employees' education level and work experience in school food-service programs affected their knowledge, (2) age, level of living, monthly income, and housing type affected their attitudes, and (3) monthly income, level of living, housing type, and work experience in school food-service programs affected their practices. Pearson's correlation analysis confirmed that the knowledge and attitude scores were significantly correlated (r=0.598, p<0.001). The results indicate that the knowledge, attitude, and practice levels of the employees regarding the food hygiene and safety were better than expected, however, the results suggest a need for the adoption of approaches which take account of socio-economic and environmental influences on behavior to improve and maintain their practice level. The food-handling practices of school food-service employees need to be monitored routinely in order to ensure that safe food is served to our school children.
The purpose of the study was to investigate the characteristics of energy use behaviors and energy saving consciousness of multi-family housing residents. The energy referred to in this study includes electric energy, heating energy and water usage. This study was conducted from a survey carried out in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The results of the study are as follows: First, among the survey questions, the only positive energy saving behaviors shown by the occupants was turning off the lights and the television, and in the use of kitchen appliances; it could therefore be concluded that, in general, energy saving attitude and consciousness were not sufficient to reduce energy consumption. Second, the results showed high mean scores for the behaviors which were easy to control, such as turning off lights and televisions, and low mean scores for the behaviors which required extra effort to completely cut off electricity energy such as pulling out the plugs of electronic appliances. Third, it was found that the occupants generally showed the tendency to save heating energy. However, in cases where the occupants were required to continuously and directly experience indoor temperatures, they expressed passive attitudes toward saving energy. Fourth, they showed wasteful attitudes toward water usage by leaving the tap running when taking showers and washing their faces. Fifth, while they showed a strong energy saving consciousness, they also showed a passive attitude about putting this into practice; there was therefore some gap between attitude and behavior. Lastly, among the socio-demographic factors, age and family lifecycle were very important factors affecting energy use and energy saving consciousness.
In this study, factors influencing the parking policy compliance (i.e. levying a garage option on car buyers) were identified, and then, were applied to the theory of planned behavior. To find out the influence of factors and their path, the study built a parking policy compliance model using structural equation modeling. The independent variables such as attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control had positive effects on the parameter describing the efforts to secure his garage, but the parameter impact on the dependent variable was not significant. In the end, the independent variables affected the dependent variable was not significant. The perceived behavioral control utilizing regulations had positive effects on the parking policy compliance behavior, but past behavior such as street parking and prowling to find a free parking space had a negative effect on parking policy compliance behavior.
The purpose of this study is to assess the sanitation level and purchase behavior of fishery products, and to identify management conditions of bad smell from cooking fish at home as perceived by housewives in a metropolitan area. Frequency analysis, descriptive analysis, and cross-tabulation analysis were employed as statistical techniques for current study. Total 270 were collected from housewives. The statistical variables included the kinds of cooking oil and the age of housewives, the types of hoods for fish roasting, the types of covers for fish grills, the number of family, the ventilation methods, and the maintenance of kitchen utensils based on family incomes, and they showed statistically significant differences(p<.05). Furthermore, the housewives whose sanitary cognition level for fishery products was high, the housewives whose level of purchase attitude was relatively high, and the housewives who utilized specialized kitchen utensils demonstrated statistically significant differences(p<.05). It resulted from the assessment of such actual conditions as difference of culinary environment according to the sanitation level of fishery products, the level of purchase attitude, and whether the housewives utilized special kitchen utensils or not. The more efforts were proved from those who had the intentions for improvement of an amenable culinary environment at homes, according to the higher income obtainers, the smaller nuclear family, the younger generation, whether the housewives utilized special kitchen utensils or not, and those who had the higher sanitary cognition level of fishery products. The above results were derived from an individual lifestyle or a dietary lifestyle, but eventually this seems to be related with the propensity and values hierarchy of individuals.
The purpose of this study is to identify learning attitudes, problem-solving skills, critical thinking tendencies, and the effects on learning attitudes for dental hygienist. It was. The data analysis method analyzed the general characteristics of the subjects, and the learning attitude, critical thinking disposition, and problem solving ability were examined with the mean, standard deviation, and correlation between each variable. t-test, ANOVA, and hierarchical regression analysis were used for the study attitude, critical thinking tendency, and problem solving ability according to the general characteristics of the study subjects. As a result of this study, grades were the most influential variables, and self-confidence and skepticism influenced learning attitudes as a sub-factor of critical thinking. In this study, the first grade of dental hygiene and enrolled students was the highest. Development of programs to effectively raise critical thinking tendency and problem solving ability for first graders, and research on characteristics of learners, major satisfaction, adaptation to college life, problem-based learning and preceptorship should be continuously conducted. This study was to investigate the changes in nutrition knowledge, nutrition attitude and food habit during 'meal management and diet' course to nonmajor university students by questionnaires. 280 students of Chungnam university who registered nonmajor 'meal management and diet' course in the 2003 were the subjects. The results of this study are as follows. BMIs of male and female students were 21.5 and 19.3. According to BMI, underweight subjects were $24.3\%$, normal and overweight (danger & obesity) subjects were each $62.4\%$ and $13.6\%$, respectively. The nutrition knowledge scores significantly (p < 0.001) increased from 12.1 to 14.0 after the lecture, and the uncertainty rate of nutrition know- ledge decreased significantly. Also, there were no significant differences in nutrition attitude score (39.5 to 39.8 points). Female subjects showed significantly (p < 0.05) higher nutrition knowledge scores (12.3 points) than male (11.4 points). $20\%$ of the subjects smoked and $82.9\%$ had alcohol drinks and $24.4\%$ exercised more than 3 times per week. The subjects who ate regular meals significantly increased from 9.3 to $12.5\%$ after the lecture, and smoking subjects decreased from 20 to $13\%$, but alcohol drinking subjects did not changed significantly.
The purpose of this study is to identify influencing factors for successful introduction, implementation and management of HMRPS through assessment of the employees attitude toward HMRPS in technical, administrative, and organization behavioral areas. Data were collected from 157 HMRPS employee members' self-reporting questionnaire in three university hospitals in the city of Seoul and Kyonggi Province from November 5 to November 10, 1997. Relevant literature on industry company MPR system theory was reviewed to develop the theoretical framework. The results were as follows: The employee's recognition of tangible benefit were more significantly influenced success than intangible benefit for successful operation relating the HMRPS. Concerning the employee's recognition of the successful HMRPS and the factor of influenced success was significantly positive correlation between tangible and intangible benefits and success factor in technical, administrative, and organizational behavior area. This study showed that major factor affecting the employee's recognition of tangible and intangible benefit for successful HMRPS. For tangible benefits; Success factors in the technical areas were quality of the data and information, efficiency of inventory management and rescheduling of operation plan. Success factors in the administrative areas were: role of top management. Success factors in the organization behavioral areas were; simplicity of the HMRPS, human resistance to change. For intangible benefits; Success factors in the organization behavioral areas were; user involvement, simplicity of HMRPS, human resistance to change. Futhermore as the exact evaluation of successful factors of HMRPS implement is needed, research for the development of systemic variables of physical distribution system control, methods, capacity of system, duration and other environment in many of 30 hospitals or more, and for the empirical study for HMRPS.
