  • Tomography is the imaging method of cross sectional area using multi beam signals and is mainly applied to the medical diagnosis to acquire the image of the inside human body. This method is pretty meaningful in nondestructive evaluation field since the imaging of the inspection region can enhance the comprehension of the inspector. Recently, much attention has been paid to the guided wave for the diagnosis of platelike structures. So, in this work, a study on the imaging of the damage location in a plate was carried out on the basis of computer aided analysis of guided waves and tomographic imaging. To this end, boundary element method was employed to analyze the effect of the damage in plate on the propagation of the guided waves and the analytic results were applied to the tomographic imaging method to identify the damage location. Consequently, it was shown that the number of sensors heavily affect the inspection performance of the damage location.

  • Today seafoods, such as fisheries and clams, have become an important part of our diet. But processing and storing these perishable seafoods for a long period of time present a serious problem. Only a few years ago, the seafood consumption was minimal. However, an improvement in our diet has enabled us to enjoy seafoods more often than before. Moreover, the recent trend toward the concentration of the popuration to the metropolitan area and the improvement in the standards of living have accelerated a change in our food consumption pattern-preference for the convenient foods over time consuming cooking. Judging from these changes, we can easily predict that the demand for the covenient, dried seafoods will rise sharply in the coming days. The development for an innovative and attractive way to package and market these products are on the way. Research and development of the distribution channel and package design of the dried seafoods will offer a wide array of opportunities to increase the sales volume of the dried seafoods. In addition, by associating the image of Pusan, as a prime oceanic city, with the dried seafoods on the package will certainly draw the attention of many prospective consumers. Consequently it will make the dried seafoods special products of Pusan, and eventually contribute to the prosperity of the city.

  • Nano composite materials were multi-constituent combinations of nano dimensional phases with distinct differences in structure, chemistry and properties. Nano particles were less likely to create large stress concentrations and thereby can avoid the compromise of the material ductility while improve other mechanical properties. Corona discharge was an electrical discharge. The ionization of a fluid surrounding a conductor was electrically energized. This discharge would occur when the strength of the electric field around the conductor was high enough to form a conductive region, but not high enough to cause electrical breakdown or arcing to nearby objects. This paper shows all the studies done on the preparation of nano fillers. Special attention has given to the ACSR transmission line conductor, TiO2 nano fillers and also to the evaluation of corona resistance on dielectric materials discussed in detail. The measurement of the dielectric properties of the nano fillers and the parameters influencing them were also discussed in the paper. Corona discharge test reveals that in 0%N ACSR sample corona loss was directly proportional to the applied line voltage. No significant change in corona loss between 0%N and 1%N. When TiO2 nano filler concentration was increased up to 10%N fine decrement in corona loss was found when compared to base ACSR conductor, corona loss was decreased by 40.67% in 10%N ACSR sample. It was also found from the surface conditions test that inorganic TiO2 nano filler increases the key parameters like tensile strength and erosion depth.

  • In this study, the frequency domain method which utilizes the evaluation of changes in the structural mode shape is adopted to identify regions which contain localized damages. Frequency response function (FRF) values corresponding to the modal frequency, analogous to the mode shape coefficients, are used since change in natural frequency of the system is usually insignificant for localized damage. This method requires only few sensors to obtain the dynamic response of the structure at specific locations to determine the FRF via fast-Fourier transform (FFT). Numerical examples of an aluminum plate, which includes damages of varying severity, locations and combinations of multiple locations, are presented to demonstrate the feasibility of the method. An experimental verification of the method is also done using an aluminum plate with two different degrees of damage, namely a half-through notch and a through notch. The inconsistency in attaining the FRF values for practical applications due to varying impact load may be overcome via statistical averaging, although large variations in the loading in terms of the contact duration should still be avoided. Nonetheless, this method needs special attention when the damages induce notable changes in the modal frequency, such as when the damages are of high severity or cover more extensive area or near the boundary where the support condition is modified. This is largely due to the significant decrease in the frequency term compared to the increase in the vibration amplitude. For practical reasons such as the use of limited number of sensors and to facilitate automation, extending the resolution of this method of identification may not be efficient. Hence, methods based on wave propagation can be employed as a complement on the isolated region to provide an accurate localization as well as to trace the geometry of the damage.

  • This paper is concerned with the linkages between universities and industry in the information and communications technology (ICT) in Cyberjaya, Malaysia and Cyberabad, India. In the case of the ICT cluster of Cyberjaya, the context can be termed as greenfield cluster development as the whole project is developed from scratch. In the case of Cyberabad, India, the context can be seen as a brownfield development, where the cluster developed based on existing and new organisations in a region. There is extant literature in research, be it from an Innovation systems or a Triple Helix perspective that has given significant attention to the importance of universities as engines of growth and also about the significance of their linkages with industry innovation in regions. But as argued by scholars like Chaminade et al, most of these papers tend to ignore the specific context in which this interaction between the university and the industry takes place - this study aims to fill this gap through an exploratory study from emerging economies and in a greenfield and brownfield contexts. The findings from the two cases point towards (1) the role of intermediary organisations in developing the linkages, (2) the issue of capabilities of universities for supporting industry development and (3) university-industry linkages are different in greenfield and brown field developments. The paper presents the cases and discusses the findings and provides insights to cluster development officials and policy makers and implications to researchers for developing studies of university-industry from a capabilities and context perspectives.

  • In the HCI, hand gesture recognition is attracting attention as a method for interaction and information exchange between users and devices along with the development of IT devices. In hand gesture recognition through image processing, palm region detection is a key process contributing to improvement of processing speed and recognition rate. In this paper, we propose a new method for image segmentation between the hand and wrist for palm area detection. The anatomical characteristics of the hand are used to calculate the distance between the iliac bones of the thumb and little finger, which have the widest width, by the horizontal projection histogram of the hand image, and then the palm area is detected by drawing a circle having the width as the diameter. In order to verify the superiority of this method, multiple stage template matching is used to compare and evaluate recognition performance against the four conventional methods for 10 hand gestures. Note that the literatures to offer palm area detection performance evaluation are few although there are many studies on hand gesture recognition.

  • One of the major concerns to improve social-wellbeing is uneven spatial distribution of public service. The paper analyses the changes in the geographic distribution of public service facilities over time. The analysis is with a case study about JeollaNamdo Province including Gwangju Metropolitan City, 1985~2005. It employed eighteen proxies in different fields to measure public service and utilized cluster analyses, and various summary statistics including Schutz's coefficient and regression. The results show that overall social well-being has improved during the two decades and the gap between Gwanju City and the major cities in the JeollaNamdo Province has narrowed. However, the disparity between mainland and island areas still persists, calling our attention to the island areas.

  • We all know that we can not keep a proper social life without language. Yet language is so much a part of our environment that we hardly realize it is there. The purpose of this study is to provide an understanding of the linguistical aspect of communication process in order to carry out a successful human relations in the operation of libraries. Human development rests upon man's capacity to digest large quantities of knowledge and it is language which allows facts to be communicated, stored, and disseminated. An attempt was made in this study to illustrate the elementary meaning-of-words aspect of communication. In order to share the most commonly agreed meanings in interpersonal communication, a careful study of semantic noises is important. In a constant struggle to meet client needs, staff and administrators, librarian must understand communication dialogues, their messages and be able to read all level of meanings. In order to perform a successful function of the librarian, to act as a link-man or communicator and to cope with its ever growing information, it is suggested that the deep understanding of the following linguistical aspect of communication elements is essential. 1. Characteristics of Language: (1) Words have different meanings to different people. (2) Words vary in the degree of abstraction. (3) Language is incomplete by its nature. (4) Language reflects not only the personality of the individual but also the culture of man's society. 2. Noises in transmitting meanings: (1) Mechanical or Technical noises. (2) Semantic Noises (3) Noises caused by the psychological factors a. attention b. perception, sensation, cognition and perceptual field. 3. Linguistic Stratum Languages differ considerably in vocabulary by the physical and cultural environment setting as well as situation of individual living. There are seven different language stratum which reflects different region, sex, age, profession, special social stratum, academic and tabooed words.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of Jeju dialect of service worker on tourist image, tourist satisfaction and revisit intention. The Regional dialect can be viewed as a cultural element that characterizes the region, It also serves as a medium to inform tourists of the feelings they experience while they are out of their area and visiting other areas. As a result of the study, it was found that the communication factors in the language communication of dialects had a positive(+) effect on the cognitive and emotional images of tourist sites. Interesting factors showed positive(+) effect on cognitive image of sightseeing spot, but did not affect emotional image. As a result of the study, it should be noted that excessive use of regional dialects may not necessarily have a positive effect on the emotions of tourists. If you want to develop tourist products using dialects, you need to pay attention to the use of words and expressions so that there is no misunderstanding.

  • High speed marine vehicle, such as semi-planing, planing craft have been developed recently. These ships paid attention to the resistance characteristics, especially in high speed region. Model test method is divided to two equipment greatly, first 'Towing tank', second 'C.W.C.'. It is difficult to estimate a resistance characteristics for high speed boat. because these are made for low speed ship. This paper suggests a new model test method and system. This is real sea model test and it's comprised of eight part. Firstly, This method is tested at C.W.C that is possible to using in real sea model tes using low speed boat modelt. And then, Real sea model test and CFD calculation are performed and compared with tow way used high speed boat model. It can be a good way to estimate a performance for high speed boat.
