Trace elements in air samples artificially loaded on filters with urban dust and the bulk material of urban dust as an environmental sample were determined non-destructively using instrumental neutron activation analysis. Standard reference material (Urban Dust, SRM 1648) of the National Institute of Standard and Technology was used for the analytical quality control. The relative error for 37 elements was less than 15% and the standard deviation was less than 10%. 29 elements in the urban dust and 21 elements in the loaded filter sample were determined respectively. To evaluate the proficiency and reliability of the measurement, data intercomparison was performed and 39 analytical laboratories participated in the analysis using different analytical methods; neutron activation analysis, particle induced X-ray emission analysis, X-ray fluorescence analysis and atomic absorption spectrometry. Z-scores were calculated using the standard deviation of the laboratorie's mean as target standard deviation, and a good result was obtained that the values fall between -1 and +1 except some elements.

We studied the charge redistribution in the Pt-M (M=Cu, Co) alloys by X-ray Absorption Near Edge Spectroscopy(XANES) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy(XPS). These analysis tools provide us information about the charge transfer in the valence band of intermetallic bonding. The samples were prepared by arc-melting method. After annealing this samples in vacuum for several hours, we cold get the ordered samples, which were confirmed with XRD analysis. the core and valence level energy shift in these system were investigated by Mg $K\alpha$(1253.6eV) x-ray source for Pt-Co alloys and monochromatized Al $K\alpha$ (1486.6eV) for Pt-Cu alloys. Pt L2, L3-edge, and Cu, Co K-edge XANES spectra were measured with the total electron-yield mode detector at the 3Cl beam line of the PLS (Pohang light source0. from the changes of White line (WL) area and the core level shifts of the each metal sites, we can obtain the information about the electrons participating in the intermetallic bonding of the Pt-Cu and Pt-Co alloys.
A method was presented for the analysis of trace metals in iron oxide ore. The method utilized ammonium pyrrolidinedithiocarbamate (APDC)-methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) extraction procedure and analysis by atomic absorption spectroscopy (AA). Citrate at pH $8{\sim}10$ for the determination of Co, Ni and Cu or tiron at pH $6{\sim}7$for the determination of Mn and Cu was added as a masking agent to prevent extraction of Fe(III) into the organic phase. Reduction of solubility of MIBK in water was achieved by addition of NaCl as a salting-out agent. Back extraction of the MIBK extracts with aqueous $HNO_3$ was also studied to increase the stability of metal extracts.
The instrumentation and operating characteristics of a gas-jet assisted radio frequency glow discharge atomic absorption spectrometry(RF-GDAAS) are studied. The roles of discharge power, pressure as well as gas flow rate on the sample loss rate and absorbance are described in this paper. Results show that the optimum discharge conditions depend on pressure and discharge power as well as on the gas flow rate. The gas flow rate plays as an important parameter in RF-GDAAS. Absorbance increases as the gas flow rate increase up to 600ml/min., and the optimum absorbance is obtained at the pressure of 3 mbar. The absorbance increases when the discharge power increases as expected, however, the instability of the system due to the heat might be the trade off factor. The linear calibration curves of Ni and Cr in stainless steel(BAS 461-468) and brass (KSS 1121-1126) are obtained with RF-GDAAS.
Within recent years attention has been focused on the method of hydrogen storage using metal hydride reactor due to its high energy density, durability, safety and low operating pressure. In this paper, a numerical study is carried out to investigate the coupled heat and mass transfer process for absorption in a cylindrical metal hydride hydrogen storage reactor using a newly developed model. The simulation results demonstrate the evolution of temperature, equilibrium pressure, H/M atomic ratio and velocity distribution as time goes by. Initially, hydrogen is absorbed earlier from near the wall which sets the cooling boundary condition owing to that absorption process is exothermic reaction. Temperature increases rapidly in entire region at the beginning stage due to the initial low temperature and enough metal surface for hydrogen absorption. As time goes by, temperature decreases slowly from the wall region due to the better heat removal. Equilibrium pressure distribution appears similarly with temperature distribution for reasons of the function of temperature. This work provides a detailed insight into the mechanism and corresponding physicochemical phenomena in the reactor during the hydrogen absorption process.

In this paper, we investigated impurities content, absorption properties, and thermal properties showing by changing the content of carbon black which is semiconductive materials for underground power transmission. Specimens were made of sheet form with the three of existing resins and the nine of specimens for measurement. Impurities content of specimens and absorption properties were measured by ICP-AES (Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometer) and Karl Fisher. And high temperature, heat degradation initiation temperature, and heat weight loss were measured by TGA (Thermogravimetric Analysis). The dimension of measurement temperature was 0$[^{\circ}]$ to 800$[^{\circ}]$, and rising temperature was 10$[^{\circ}/min]$. Impurities content was highly measured according to increasing the content of carbon black from this experimental result also absorption amount was increased according to these properties. Specially, impurities content values of the A1 and A2 of existing resins were measured more than 4000[ppm]. Heat degradation initiation temperature from the TGA results was decreased according to increasing the content of carbon black. All over, heat stabilities were EEA>EBA>pEVA. That is, heat stabilities of EVA containing the weak VA(vinyl acetate) against heat was measured the lowest.
A facultative dissimilatory metal-reducing bacterium, Shewanella sp. strain HN-41, was used to produce magnetite nanoparticles from a precursor, poorly crystalline iron-oxyhydroxide akaganeite ($\beta$-FeOOH), by reducing Fe(III). The diameter of the biogenic magnetite nanoparticles ranged from 26 nm to 38 nm, characterized by dynamic light scattering spectrophotometry. The magnetite nanoparticles consisted of mostly uniformly shaped spheres, which were identified by electron microscopy. The magnetometry revealed the superparamagnetic property of the magnetic nanoparticles. The atomic structure of the biogenic magnetite, which was determined by extended X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopic analysis, showed similar atomic structural parameters, such as atomic distances and coordinations, to typical magnetite mineral.

We present the result of physical studies for three integral-type burnable absorbers of gadolinia, erbia and IFBA, in the hexagonal fuel assembly. The analysis of nuclear characteristics for gadolinia and IFBA cases shows that the spectrum hardening of hexagonal fuel assembly compared to rectangular one leads to smaller reactivity hold-down worth(RHW) and less change of MTC in the negative direction per insertion of one burnable absorber rod. Erbia case, on the other hand, exhibits reversed trend in RHW and MTC due to the enhanced absorption of large resonance of Erbium at 0.5 eV It turns out to be that Erbia performs best in terms of minimizing the peak pin power and maintaining as more negative MTC as practically attainable during the entire operational phase, and IFBA provides the least residual reactivity penalty at EOC. Therefore, we take Erbium as the suitable burnable absorber and provide optimal designs of 60, 120, 180, 240 and 300 erbia-shimmed hexagonal fuel assemblies with regard to minimizing the peak pin power.
A new fission-product burnup chain model was developed for use in research reactor analysis capable of predicting the burnup-dependent reactivity with high precision over a wide range of burnup. The new model consists of 63 nuclides treated explicitly and one fissile-independent pseudo-element. The effective absorption cross sections for the pseudo-element and the pseudo-element yield of actinide nuclides were evaluated in the this report. The model is capable of predicting the high burnup behavior of low-enriched uranium-fueled research reactors.
By using surface modified activated alumina with AI(III) and flame atomic absorption spectrometry, a rapid and convenient method for the selective analysis of chromium (III) and chromium (VI) in water has been developed. This technique appears to work accurately under optimum pH range from 3 to 5.
