$CO_2$ Laser Absorption Measurement of $CH_3CH_2Br$ using Photoacoustic Method

  • The ${CO}_2$ laser absorption measurement of ${CH}_3{CH}_2Br$ utilizing photoacoustic (PA) technique was performed using a cw and a pulsed ${CO}_2$ lasers. The absorption profile in the ${CO}_2$ laser wavelength region (9-10 ${\mu}$m) and the macroscopic small signal absorption cross section at 10P(20) (10.59 ${\mu}$m, 944 $cm^{-1}$) laser line were measured using a cw ${CO}_2$ laser. The laser fluence dependence on infrared multiphoton absorption (IRMPA) was also studied with a pulsed TEA ${CO}_2$ laser at 10P(20) laser line. In view of monotonic increase of PA signal with the rise of laser fluence, it was suggested that the anharmonicity in pumped vibration mode did not restrict ir multiphoton absorption in ${CH}_3{CH}_2Br$ system as found in large molecular system.

  • Synchrotron-based X-ray absorption spectroscopy has been applied to determine the changes in bulk oxidation state of uranium oxides in molten salt. From an analysis of XANES data, one can determine the cahnges in bulk oxidation-state of U compounds in salts(LiCl/KCl). XAFS spectroscpy is a powerful tool for probing the changes in valence state and structure of uranium compounds in colten salt as well as in noncrystalline form and doped in other matrices.

  • 해수중 ppb 정도의 카드뮴, 구리, 납, 아연 및 수은 정량을 위한 용매추출-원자흡광법 및 환원기화법에 의한 무염원자흡광법을 검토했다. 용매추출 때의 최적 pH는 pH4-7였으며 용매로는 MIBK가 가장 효율이 좋았으며 킬레이트제로는 DDTC가 APDC보다 추출율 및 기타 조건이 유리했다. 즉 $1\iota$ 해수를 사용하여 pH4-5에서 DDTC-MIBK로 추출하여 아세칠렌-공기불꽃 중에 흡입시켜 흡광도를 측정하는 방법으로 해수시료를 분석한 결과 정밀저는 표준편차로 카드뮴 0.058 ppb, 구리 0.084 ppb, 납 0.44ppb였다, 아연은 $1\iota$ 시수를 사용했을 때는 블랭크값이 녀무 크게 나오고 그 정밀도가 극히 좋지 않았다. 시수량을 200ml로 했을 때는 비교적 정밀도가 좋았으며 표준편차로서 2.49 ppb였다. 수은은 시수 500ml을 황산-과망간산칼리움 분해법으로 분해시켜 염화제1주석으로 수은을 환원기화시켜 흡광도를 측정했으며 그 정밀도는 0.005 ppb였다. 이상의 방법으로 측정할 수 있는 각 금속의 정량감도는 카드뮴 $0.08\;ppb/\%$, 구리$0.15\;ppb/1\% $, 납 $0.6\;ppb/1\%$, 아연 $1.2\;ppb/1\%$, 수은 $0.01\;ppb/1\%$였다. 채수후 분석시까지의 시수보관에 따른 각 금속의 농도변화는 시수$1\iota$에 대해 질산 10ml 정도 넣어 pH 1.5 부근으로 하며 플리에칠렌병에서 보관한 결과 카드뮴, 구리, 납, 수은은 30일정도 까지는 안정하였으며 아연은 불규칙한 심한 변동을 보였다.

Neutral Hydrogen Absorption in Three Virgo Galaxies

  • The HI absorption against bright continuum source provides a unique opportunity to measure spin temperature of the neutral hydrogen gas. We find three cases among the sample of the VIVA (VLA Imaging of Virgo galaxies in Atomic gas) study with self absorption of strong central continuum by galactic HI gas. Using the HI flux ratio of emission and absorption, we constrain the spin temperature of the neutral hydrogen gas on their disk. The HI absorption is marginally resolved in these galaxies, which also allows us to probe the kinematics of the absorbing gas. All three galaxies are severely stripped in HI due to the intra cluster medium (ICM). We discuss the influence of environmental processes on the temperature and kinematics of HI in these galaxies.

  • 분리막을 이용한 산소-18 분리실험에서 분리된 시료의 동위원소 성분비 분석을 위해 다이오드 레이저 흡수분광장치를 구성하였다. 흡수신호의 신호 대 잡음비를 높이기 위해 lock-in증폭기를 사용한 파장변조 분광법을 채택하였다. 레이저의 주파수 변조폭 최적화와 FFT 저역통과 필터링을 통해 다중반사흡수셀에서 발생하는 간섭무늬 잡음을 줄였다. 산소-18에 대한 흡수분광장치의 최대편차는 $\pm$4$\textperthousand$로 측정되었다.

  • Poly(butylenes terephthalate) have made large strides in applications of injection, extrusion, and molding material due to their excellent thermal resistance and appropriate mechanical properties. However, PBT was not hard polymer but a soft polymer which caused low absorption of external energy and the defect of being easily broken with the strong impact. Thus, the electron beam irradiation was carried out over a range of irradiation doses from 100 to 1,000 kGy for enhancing the properties. The decreases of $T_m$, $T_c$, and enthalpy were observed as increasing the absorbed dose in the results of DSC analysis. The improvement in the impact strength of PBT was clearly observed as the absorbed dose was increased. This was probably due to the 3-dimensional network structures, resulting in increasing the absorption of impact energy. In addition, the wear properties had increased at higher than 300 kGy. The negative deviation of weight loss confirmed the improvement of the wear properties of PBT, as evidenced by SEM observation on the wear surfaces.
