Recently it was reported that Insertion/Deletion polymorphism in the gene coding for Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme (ACE) is associated with human capacity for physical performance. This study was performed to genotyping of the ACE gene to determine the correlation between elite endurance performance and ACE I/D gene polymorphism. DNA sample was obtained from peripheral blood, hair roots and mouth epithelial cell in 739 general population and 200 elite athletic performance students. The ACE gene was amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) using allele specific oligonucleotide primers. 155, 525 bp and 237 bp PCR products indicating the presence of insertion(I) and deletion(D) alleles, respectively, were clearly resolved after electrophoresis on a 2% agarose gel with ethidium bromide. Of the 200 elite athletic performance population subjects, 68(34%) showed ACE genotype 11,100(50%) genotype ID and 32(16%) genotype DD. Of the 739 general population subjects, 259(35.1%) showed ACE genotype 11,363(49.1%) genotype ID and 117(15.8%) genotype DD. Therefore ACE I/D gene polymorphism was not associated with human capacity for physical performance.(p>0.05)
There are a large number or chemical compounds that are present in a polluted atmosphere and that alone or in combination are important to consider for their potential effect on the respiratory system and impact on athletic performance. A general categorization or description of the level of pollution in terms of the concentration of one or more compounds or by type such as oxidizing compounds is inadequate and misleading. A useful initial categorization of pollutant compounds according to their mechanism of production, primary or secondary, is often made. For health effects, consideraiions of the physical state, gaseous or particulate, and the solublity and reactivity of the pollutant is also important. Pollutant compounds or substances that are emitted directly from a source and that undergo little or no chemical change in the atmosphere from source to receptor are termed primary pollutants.

In this study, we developed an application that athletic leaders can refer to the map data, separated by a hot zone results of student athletes (Hot Zone) and cold zones (Cold Zone). The sport developed in this study is basketball. Athletic club's coachs can analyze a high probability of a student scoring players can use them to further improve training results. And student athletes also can through the accumulated data to identify their strengths and weaknesses expect motivation and performance enhancement, and accordingly expected to further study.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of physical activity using visual stimulation smart devices on the athletic performance and attention - The conclusion is as follows. The physical activity using visual stimulation smart device was applied to the infant. The pre - and post - experiment results showed that the infants of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group. Specifically, the ability of the infant to participate in physical activity using the visual stimulation smart device was improved by sit-up bending and centering ability. Also, physical activity using visual stimulation smart device helped to improve attention of infants. In other words, it was confirmed that information and communication technology (ICT) and physical activity affect both physical and cognitive development of infants. Therefore, in order to improve the athletic ability and concentration of children more effectively, it is possible to maximize the educational effect by teaching the contents using various contents that can motivate the infant rather than the same teaching method.
Athletic products must meet the needs of athletes and the demands imposed by sports through innovative design. These needs of athletes and requirements of sports are performance, protection and comfort related. In depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology, etiology of commonly reported injuries, and lower extremity mechanics form the basis of product creation/engineering. Game analysis which entails time and frequency surveys of the skills performed during a game, interviews with athletes and coaches, and discussions with medical staffs are used to identify the skills that are critical to the needs of athletes. In lab full biomechanical analyses of these skills and/or physiological responses of the athletes lead to clear functional criterions that serve as guidelines to be met by the design team. The concepts created by the design team are in turns subjected to the same battery of biomechanical analyses. The learning gathered through this pluridisciplinary process is used to further evolve design concepts. The evolution-testing loop is repeated until biomechanical and/or physiological, mechanical and perceptual tests indicate that the design concept meets the established functional design criterions. At that time, the design concepts is ready for manufacturing research and development. Additional biomechanical and physical tests are performed through that phase to confirm that the manufacturing processes preserve the functionality of the design concept. Durability and long term performance of production samples are evaluated through a final three month long weartest program. A rigorous research/testing program is crucial to create and engineer sport products that meet the performance, protection.
Nanotechnology, like any other revolutionary innovation in materials science, has significantly influenced the level of competition in sports. Nanotechnology provides various benefits and enormous potential to enhance athletic equipment, making players safer, more comfortable, and more agile. Various sporting equipment is being infused with nanomaterials, including carbon nanotubes (CNTs), silica nanoparticles (SNPs), nanoclays fullerenes, etc., to enhance athlete and equipment performance. Each of these nanomaterials gives athletic equipment an extra benefit like high strength and stiffness, longevity, decreased weight, abrasion resistance, etc. This paper mechanically analysis the structural strength of tennis equipment to avoid injury. As a result, the bending forces are applied to the reinforced structures to investigate their durability.
Background : Use of Ma Huang is controversial. Multiple reports of adverse effects led the U.S. Federal Drug Administration (FDA) to announce about prohibiting dietary supplements containing ephedrine alkaloids/Ma Huang. Objective : The objective of the study was to review the evidence from literature and rigorous clinical trials on the dosage, effectiveness, and adverse effects. Methods : Literature searches were conducted in U.S. FDA database after 2003 and digital Uibujeonok(醫部全錄). Hand searches of medical journal and bibliographies of identified articles were conducted. Results : Ma Huang has been used in Korean Oriental Medicine to treatment asthma and other ailments. Recently, Ephedrine/Ma Huang are used for weight loss or to enhance athletic performance in Europe and America, Korea. Ephedrine/Ma Huang are associated with increased risk of psychiatric, autonomic, or gastrointestinal symptoms, and heart palpitations. In addition to that, a risk of serious adverse events, including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy and psychiatric problem are also have been reported. Therefore, max dose of total alkaloids of ephedrine is studied in need of a specialist's part. Conclusion : In most reports, Ma Huang effectively promoted short-term weight loss and enhancement of athletic performance, But, safety with long-term use requires further investigation.

As the industry develops and quality of life increases, the concept of leisure is also changing. Bicycling is a healthy sport for exercising while enjoying nature, facilitating the enjoyment of a healthy life. As a result, the awareness surrounding bicycles has increased, and so has the interest in lighter and more luxurious carbon bikes. The number of domestic companies producing carbon bicycles frames is nil. In this study, we analyze the frames of existing foreign brands and analyze the deformation and stress concentration area according to the load of the frame, using the finite element analysis. In addition, we set up the range of stiffness based on the content of the structural analysis, to localize the carbon bicycle frame and famous foreign products, and compare the prototype with the stiffness by using bicycle molds for track races.

Objective: Since athletic performance is a most importance trait in horses, most research focused on physiological and physical studies of horse athletic abilities. In contrast, the molecular analysis as well as the regulatory pathway studies remain insufficient for evaluation and prediction of horse athletic abilities. In our previous study, we identified AXL receptor tyrosine kinase (AXL) gene which was expressed as alternative spliced isoforms in skeletal muscle during exercise. In the present study, we validated two AXL alternative splicing transcripts (named as AXLa for long form and AXLb for short form) in equine skeletal muscle to gain insight(s) into the role of each alternative transcript during exercise. Methods: We validated two isoforms of AXL transcripts in horse tissues by reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), and then cloned the transcripts to confirm the alternative locus and its sequences. Additionally, we examined the expression patterns of AXLa and AXLb transcripts in horse tissues by quantitative RT-PCR (qRT-PCR). Results: Both of AXLa and AXLb transcripts were expressed in horse skeletal muscle and the expression levels were significantly increased after exercise. The sequencing analysis showed that there was an alternative splicing event at exon 11 between AXLa and AXLb transcripts. 3-dimentional (3D) prediction of the alternative protein structures revealed that the structural distance of the connective region between fibronectin type 3 (FN3) and immunoglobin (Ig) domain was different between two alternative isoforms. Conclusion: It is assumed that the expression patterns of AXLa and AXLb transcripts would be involved in regulation of exercise-induced stress in horse muscle possibly through an $NF-{\kappa}B$ signaling pathway. Further study is necessary to uncover biological function(s) and significance of the alternative splicing isoforms in race horse skeletal muscle.
Objectives: Accurate assessment of energy expenditure is important for estimation of energy requirements in athletic children. The objective of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of accelerometer for prediction of selected activities' energy expenditure and intensity in athletic elementary school children. Methods: The present study involved 31 soccer players (16 males and 15 females) from an elementary school (9-12 years). During the measurements, children performed eight selected activities while simultaneously wearing the accelerometer and carrying the portable indirect calorimeter. Five equations (Freedson/Trost, Treuth, Pate, Puyau, Mattocks) were assessed for the prediction of energy expenditure from accelerometer counts, while Evenson equation was added for prediction of activity intensity, making six equations in total. The accuracy of accelerometer for energy prediction was assessed by comparing measured and predicted values, using the paired t-test. The intensity classification accuracy was evaluated with kappa statistics and ROC-Curve. Results: For activities of lying down, television viewing and reading, Freedson/Trost, Treuth were accurate in predicting energy expenditure. Regarding Pate, it was accurate for vacuuming and slow treadmill walking energy prediction. Mattocks was accurate in treadmill running activities. Concerning activity intensity classification accuracy, Pate (kappa=0.72) had the best performance across the four intensities (sedentary, light, moderate, vigorous). In case of the sedentary activities, all equations had a good prediction accuracy, while with light activities and Vigorous activities, Pate had an excellent accuracy (ROC-AUC=0.91, 0.94). For Moderate activities, all equations showed a poor performance. Conclusions: In conclusion, none of the assessed equations was accurate in predicting energy expenditure across all assessed activities in athletic children. For activity intensity classification, Pate had the best prediction accuracy.
