Sintering and the Electrical Properties of Co-doped $ZnO-Bi_2O_3-Sb_2O_3$ Varistor System (Co를 첨가한 $ZnO-Bi_2O_3-Sb_2O_3$ 바리스터의 소결 및 전기적 특성)

  • Effects of 1.0 mol% CoO addition on sintering and the electrical properties of ZnO-Bi2O3-Sb2O3(ZBS) varistor system with 3.0 mol% co-addition of Sb2O3 and Bi2O3 at various Sb/Bi ratio (0.5, 1.0, and 2.0) were investigated. Cobalt had little influence on the liquid-phase formation and the pyrochlore decomposition temepratures of ZBS, while densification was mainly dependent on Sb/Bi ratio: when Sb/Bi=0.5, excess Bi2O3 irrelevant to the formation of pyrochore(Zn2Sb3Bi3O14) forms eutectic liquid at ~75$0^{\circ}C$ which promotes densification and grain growth; with Sb/Bi=2.0, the second phase Zn7Sb2O12 formed by excess Sb2O3 irrelevant to the formation of the pyrochlore retards densification up to ~100$0^{\circ}C$. These phases caused the coarsening and uneven distribution of the second phase particles on the grain boundaries of ZnO above the pyrochlore decomposition temperature(~105$0^{\circ}C$), which led to broad size dist-ribution of ZnO; the specimen with Sb/Bi=1.0 showed homogeneous microstructure compared with the others, which enabled improved varistor characteristics. Doping of Co increased the nonlinearity and the potential barrier height of ZBS, which is thought to stem from improved sintering behavior such as homogenized microstructure due to size reduction and even distribution of the second phase and suppressed volatility of Bi2O3, as well as the improvement in the potential barrier structure via increased donor and interface electron trap densities.

  • Evaluation of the mechanical properties of Bi-2223/Ag HTS tapes was carried out by the tension and bending tests. Most of the Bi-2223/Ag tapes retained critical current up to 10 kgf/mm$_2$ axial tension stress, and 0.2% tension strain at room temperature. Applied tension strain exceeding 0.3% in superconducting tapes at 77 K leaded to rapid degradation of the critical current. It was observed that the more filaments, the better axial tension property at 77 K, self-field The influence of bending strain on critical current degradation was revealed to be less sensitive for Bi-2223/Ag HTS tapes with a more number of filaments and higher silver ratio.

The microwave dielectric properties of $Bi_{(1-x)}Tm_xNbO_4$ (마이크로파 유전체 $Bi_{(1-x)}Tm_xNbO_4$의 유전특성)

  • The microwave dielectric properties and the microstructures of $Tm_2O_3$-modified $BiNbO_4$ ceramics were investigated. $Bi_{(1-x)}Tm_xNbO_4$ ceramics combined with orthorhombic and triclinic phases were identified at sintering temperatures of $920{\sim}960^{\circ}C$. The apparent density decreased slightly with the increasing Tm content. Regardless of the Tm content the dielectric constant $(\varepsilon_r)$ of all compositions except x=0.1 in $Bi_{(1-x)}Tm_xNbO_4$ ceramics saturated at the range of 42~44. The $Q{\times}f_0$ values of 6,000-12,000(GHz) were obtained for all compositions when the sintering temperatures were in the range of $920{\sim}960^{\circ}C$. The temperature coefficient of the resonant frequency$(\tau_f)$ can be also adjusted with increasing the amount of the doped Tm from a positive value of $+15ppm/^{\circ}C$ to a negative value of $-20ppm/^{\circ}C$. The $Bi_{(1-x)}Tm_xNbO_4$ ceramics can be possibly applied to multilayer microwave devices with low processing temperatures.

  • I. Introduction The essence of Oriental medicine consists of ancient books, experienced doctors and succeeded skills of common society. Many famous doctors studied medical science by their fathers or teachers. So the history of medical science is long. $\ll$DangDaeMyeongIImJeungJeongHwa(當代名醫臨證精華)$\gg$ written by SaWoogWang(史宇廣) and DanSeoGeon(單書健) has many medical experience of famous doctors. So it has important historical value. Bi(痺) means blocking. BiJeung is one kind of symptoms making muscles, bones and jonts feel pain, numbness or edema. For example it can be gout or SLE etc. So I studied ${\ll}BiJeungJuJip{\gg}$. II. Final Decision Following decisions of Chinese doctors of 20th century are as follows ; 1. JuYangChun(朱良春) emphasized on IkSinJangDok(益腎壯督) to treat BiJeong. And he devided WanBi(頑痺) as PungHanSeup(風寒濕), DamEo(痰瘀), YeolDok(熱毒), SinHeo(腎虛). He used insects for medicine. 2. ChoSuDoek(焦樹德) introduced past prescription. He used ChiBiTang(治痺湯) to treat HaengBi(行痺), TongBi(痛痺), ChakBi(着痺). He insisted that Han(寒; coldness) and Seup(濕; dampness) be Eum(陰) and Pung(風; wind) can change his character to be Eum. After all BiJeung is usually EumJeung. So he used GaeJi(桂枝) and BuJa(附子). By the way he used ChungYeolSanBiTang(淸熱散痺湯) for YeolBi, BoSinGeoHanChiWangTang SaBok(王士福) emphasized on the importance of medicine. He introduced many treatments like CheongYeol(情熱) for YeolBi and YiO(二烏) for HanBi. And he divided BiJeung period for three steps. At 1st step, we must use GeoSa(祛邪), at 2nd step, we must use BuJeong(扶正) and at 3rd step, we must use BoHyeol(補血), he insisted. And he introduced many herbs to treat BiJeung. 4. JeongGwangJeok(丁光迪) said that GaeJi(桂枝), MaHwang(麻黃), OYak(烏蘖) and BuJa(附子) are very important for TongRak(通絡). And pain usually results from Han(寒), so he liked to use hot-character herbs. 5. MaGi(馬志) insisted that BiJeung usually result from ChilJeong(七情). And he liked to use insects for treatment of BiJeung. 6. WeolSeokMu(越錫武) introduced 8 kinds of treatments and divided BiJeung period. Also he divided BeJeung for PungBi(風痺), HanBi(寒痺) and SeupBi(濕痺). 7. SeoGeaHam(徐季含) observed many patients and concluded that 86.7% of BiJeung is HeuJeung(虛症). 8. YuJiMyeong(劉志明) said that YeolBi is important and CheongYeol is also important. So he emphasized on DangGyuiJeomTongTang(當歸拈痛湯) and SeonBiTang(宣痺湯). 9. WangLiChu(汪履秋) studied cause of WanBi. Internal cause is GiHyeolHeo(氣血虛) and GanSinHeo(肝腎虛) and external cause is SaGi(邪氣) he insisted. 10. WangSaSang(王士相) said that YeolBi can be SeupYeolBi or EumHeuYeolBi(陰虛熱痺) and HanSeupBi(寒濕痺) is rare. He use WooBangJaSan(牛蒡子散) and BangPungHwan(防風丸) for SeupYeolBi, DangGyuiSaYeokTang(當歸四逆湯) for HanSeupBi. 11. JinTaekGang(陳澤江) treated YeolBi with BaekHoGaGyeJiTang(自虎加桂枝湯) and SaMyoSan(四妙散). If they don't have effect, he tried to cure BiJeung step by step. And he used e term of GeunBi(筋痺) and BangGiMogwaEIInTang(防己木瓜薏苡仁湯) was good for GeunBi. 12. MaSeoJeong(麻瑞亭) said that PungSeupYeokJeul(風濕歷節) is BiJeung and it is related to GanBinSin(肝脾腎; liver, Spleen, Kindey). And he emphasized on balance WiGi(衛氣) and YoungHeul(營血). 13. SaJeJu(史濟桂) said that GeunGolBi(筋骨痺) is similar to arthritis and sometimes called ChakBi. And SinBi(腎痺) is terminal stage of ChakBi, he said. He also used insects for treatment. 14. JeongJeNam(丁濟南) tried to cure SLE and used GyeJi, CheonCho(川椒), SinGeunCho(伸筋草), SunRyeongBi(仙靈脾), HyconSam(玄蔘) and GamCho(甘草). 15. JinGYungHwa(陳景和) emphasized on diagnosis of tongue. If the color of tongue is blue, it usually has EoHyeol(瘀血), for example. And he also used insects. 16. JuSongI(朱松毅) tried to devide YeolBi with OnByeong(溫病), Wi(衛), Gi(氣) and Hyeol(血). 17. RuDaBong(蔞多峰) said that JyeongHeo(正虛), OiSa(外邪) and EoHyeol are closely related. And he explained BiJeung by deviding the body into the part, for example head, neck, shoulder, waist, upper limb and lower limb. 18. YuMuBo(劉茂甫) defined PungHanSyubBi as chronic stage and YeolBi as acute stage.

Enhanced Gas Sensing Properties of Bi2O3-Core/In2O3-Shell Nanorod Gas Sensors

  • The $Bi_2O_3$ nanowires are highly sensitive to low concentrations of $NO_2$ in ambient air and are almost insensitive to most other common gases. However, it still remains a challenge to enhance their sensing performance and detection limit. This study examined the influence of the encapsulation of ${\beta}-Bi_2O_3$ nanorods with $In_2O_3$ on the $NO_2$ gas sensing properties. ${\beta}-Bi_2O_3-core/In_2O_3-shell$ nanorods were fabricated by a two-step process comprising the thermal evaporation of $Bi_2O_3$ powders and sputter-deposition of $In_2O_3$. Multiple networked ${\beta}-Bi_2O_3-core/In_2O_3-shell$ nanorod sensors showed the responses of 12-156% at 1-5 ppm $NO_2$ at $300^{\circ}C$. These response values were 1.3-2.7 times larger than those of bare ${\beta}-Bi_2O_3$ nanorod sensors at 1-5 ppm $NO_2$. The enhancement in the response of ${\beta}-Bi_2O_3$ nanorods to $NO_2$ gas by the encapsulation by $In_2O_3$ can be accounted for based on the space-charge model.

  • To investigate the subjective refractive error with Von Graefe test. Maddox Rod test and polarizing lens test of Horizontal Heterophoria Measurement at distance on normal 109 subjects aged from 18 to 30 years old. The results were as follows: 1. Using Von Graefe Horizontal Heterophoria Measurement, they were measured 15% for orthophoria, 65% for exophoria and 20% for esophoria at distance. 2. Using Maddox Rod Horizontal Heterophoria Measurement, they were measured 14% for orthophoria, 57% for exophoria and 29% for esophoria at distance. 3. Using polarizing lens test of Horizontal Heterophoria Measurement, they were measured 15% for orthophoria, 72% for exophoria and 13% for esophoria at distance. 4. Each test average were $1.32{\Delta}BI$ for Von Graefe test, $0.88{\Delta}BI$ for Maddox Rod test and $1.76{\Delta}BI$ for polarizing lens test. 5. Patient's preference distribution were 44% for Von Graefe test, 28% for Maddox Rod test and 28% for polarizing lens test.

  • $SbS_{1-x}Se_xI,\;BiS_{1-x}Se_xI,\;Sb_{1-x}Bi_xSI,\;Sb_{1-x}Bi_xSeI,\;SbS_{1-x}Se_xI:Co,\;BiS_{1-x}Se_xI:Co,\;Sb_{1-x}Bi_xSI:Co$, and $Sb_{1-x}Bi_xSeI:Co$ single crystals were grown by the vertical Bridgman method using the ingots. It has been found that these single crystals have an orthorhombic structure and indirect optical transition. The composition dependences of energy gaps are given by $E_g(x)=E_g(0)-Ax+Bx^2$. The impurity optical absorption peaks due to cobalt deped with impurity are attributed to the electron transitions between the split energy levels of $Co^{2+}$ and $Co^{3+}$ ions sited at $T_d$symmetry of the host lattice.

  • To enhance the formation of Bi,Sr,Ca,Cu,O,(Bi-2223) single phase in a shorter reaction time, the intermediate compounds such as Bi,Sr,CuO,(Bi-2201). BizSr,CaCuz08(Bi-2212) and (Ca, Sr,, ,9)CuOz in the Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-0 system were used as the precursors. The formation of Bi-2223 was enhanced in the mixture of Bi-2201 and (Ca, ,,Sr, 119)C~eOsZpe,c ially from the mixture with (Ca, 9I Sr, ,,)CuO,-rich composition compared to Bi, iPb, 4Sr2Ca,Cu3010-cxo mposition. The formation of Bi- 2223 essentially completed within 60h at 860$^{\circ}$C and 870$^{\circ}$C. However, a small amount of the remnant Bi-2212 phase did not disappear even after a prolonged reaction at 870'C. The merit of the proposed synthetic method using the intermediate precusors can be summarized as a shorter reaction time for the formation of Bi-2223 phase, in addition to a smaller amount of second phases compared to the conventional solid-state reaction method.

Annealing Effects on the Properties of Bi-doped ZnO Thin Film (Bi-doped ZnO 박막의 열처리에 따른 특성)

  • Annealing effects on the properties of Bi-doped ZnO thin films were investigated. Bi- doped ZnO thin films were deposited on quartzs substrates at 300℃ by using radio-frequency magnetron sputtering system. Post heat treatments at 600, 700, and 800℃ were performed to evaluate the effect of annealing temperatures on the structural, optical, and electrical properties of Bi-doped ZnO thin films. FE-SEM images showed the dramatic surface morphology changes by rearrangement of elements at high heat treatment temperature of 800℃. X-ray diffraction analysis indicated that the peaks of the Bi-doped ZnO thin films were same as the peaks of the (002) planes of ZnO peak-positioned at 2θ=34.0° and peak intensities and FWHMs were improved as the annealing temperatures increased. The optical transmittance was improved with increasing annealing temperatures and was over 80% in the wavelength region between 435 and 1100 nm at the annealing temperature of 700 and 800℃. With increasing annealing temperature, the electron concentrations and electron mobilities were increased. On the other hand, electric resistivity of the films were decreased with increasing annealing temperatures. These results showed that the heat treatment temperature is an important parameter to improve the structural, optical, and electrical properties of Bi-doped ZnO thin films.

Joining Characteristics of Plasma Sprayed BSCCO Superconducting Coatings (플라즈마 용사 BSCCO(Bismuth Strontium Calcium Copper Oxide) 초전도 피막의 접합 특성)

  • We performed plasma spraying for 2001 (Bi:Cu = 2:1), 0212 (Sr:Ca:Cu = 2:1:2) oxide powders. $Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2Ox$ (2212) superconductor has been prepared by PMP-AT (partial melting process-annealing treatment). The 2212 phase is synthesized between Sr-Ca-Cu oxide coating layer (0212) and Bi-Cu oxide coating layer (2001) by movement of partial melted Bi on 2001 layer and the diffusion reaction (Cu, Sr, Ca) after PMP-AT. There are two different coating layers on joining process. The one is ABAB coating layers and the other is BAAB coating layers by arrangement of 2001 (A), 0212 (B) layers. We performed heat treatment these two different coating layers processes under same PMP-AT conditions. We obtained Bi-2212 superconducting layers at each experimental condition, and the result of MPMS, the critical temperature was showed about 78 K. But the microstructure images and result of EDS as each experimental variable were showed about the qualitatively different Bi-2212 superconducting phases. We also deduced the generation mechanism of Bi-2212 superconducting layer as a result of these experimental data, microstruc ture images, EDS data and phase diagram.
