  • This paper presents an analysis of asynchronous multicarrier-code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) uplink systems over frequency-selective multipath fading channels when the frequency offsets (FOs) of all users are random variables and the frequency offset for the desired user is compensated. The effect of a residual frequency offset(RFO) on the average bit error rate (BER) is evaluated by the semi-analytical method, then the approximated BER performance is obtained as a closed-form expression. Moreover, the signal to noise ratio (SNR) loss caused by RFO is evaluated. Derived results show that the performance degradation due to RFO is negligible if the estimation error of RFO for the desired user is less than the normalized value of 0.1.

  • This paper presents an asynchronous DS/CDMA multiuser detector, which is a two stage, symbol-by-symbol scheme consisting of conventional detectors followed by linear decorrelating detectors. The conventional detector first makes temporal decisions and the detected symbols are delayed by one symbol period to be used for the selection of decorrelating bases in the subsequent decorrelaing detection stage. It also employs a bank of early-late correlators in place of a bank of single correlators taking the small offset of chip timing asynchronism into account. The proposed detector requires only the coarse knowledge of relative time delays of interfering users and is suitable for digital implementation. To verify the detector performance, the analytical BER performance will be given and compared with the simulation results for BPSK DS/CDMA signals in AWGN channel. While the performance of the proposed detector will be analyzed for time-limited signal, the simulation is carried out for both the time-limited and band-limited signals. As can be seen in the simulation results, the proposed scheme shows good results.

  • Asynchronous mode W-CDMA system is kmown to be quite appropriate to the next generation mobile communication system, especially in a non-homogenious cellular architecture. In this case, however, each base station needs to use different spreading code for identification, so it is a demeanding task for a mobile terminal to find the best cell site and get an accurate code synchronization at the beginning of a communication. Since slow acquisition of a base station could mean the failure of initiation, a fast algorithm to accelerate the cell search process is essential. In this paper, a new cell search algorithm based on the binary code position modulation within the code block is proposed. Different cell sites are identified by different hopping code sequences, andeach position modulation is performed by the hopping code. The proposed algorithm is proved to make the cell search time in most places in a cell much shorter than the previous algorithms, and to make the receiver implementation simpler.

  • In this paper, an asynchronous multi-rate optical wireless pulse position modulation-code division multiple access (PPM-CDMA) is proposed for an indoor non-directed diffuse channel. As a signature sequence for CDMA, an optical orthogonal code (OOC) is used and an interference cancellation scheme is applied to improve the bit error rate. It is known that the optical PPM-CDMA has advantages due to its power efficiency. Moreover, it provides multi-rate services by varying the modulation level with fixed pulse duration. In the proposed multi-rate PPM-CDMA system with fixed pulse duration, chip rate and sampling time do not change for each transmission rate and this simplifies overall system structure.

  • In this paper, we propose a class of polyphase signature sequences, whose general odd correlation properties are useful for 4-phase signaling systems. The performance of the direct sequence code division multiple access (DS/CDMA) systems using the proposed sequences is compared with that using binary pseudo-noise sequences. The performance of the system using the proposed sequence is shown to be better than that using other conventional sequences both from the worst-case analysis and bit error rate simulations.

  • Multicarrier code division multiple access(MC-CDMA) system that combines multicarrier modulation with CDMA offers robustness to frequency selective fading and can support higher rate data transmission with higher spectral efficiency. A new asynchronous MC-CDMA system to implement multiple data rate communications is proposed in this paper. In a W-CDMA downlink the orthogonal variable spreading factor(OVSF) code is used for variable spreading factor for various multimedia traffic. Proposed system utilizes the OVSF code that generated by generation property for spreading. The proposed MC-CDMA system use different lengths of OVSF code as a spreading code according to their data rate. The groupwise processing is accomplished by code grouping in OVSF code generation tree. For the analysis of average BER performance, numerical method and computer simulation were used. We also compare the system performance with that of a single rate MC-CDMA system used orthogonal code as a spreading code.

  • In this paper, we derive the BER performance of an asynchronous DS/CDMA system and analyze the improvement of BER performance through turbo coding and RAKE receiver in multipath Rayleigh fading and impulsive noise environments. As a result, impulsive noise affects the performance of the system more than multipath fading in lower $E_b/N_o$ than a certain threshold. However, in higher $E_b/N_o$, multipath fading are more dominant than impulsive noise. It is found that in lower $E_b/N_o$, turbo code improves the performance of the system against impulsive noise, and in higher $E_b/N_o$, RAKE receiver improves the performance of the system against multipath fading. Therefore, great improvement can be obtained by employing turbo code and RAKE receiver in multipath Rayleigh fading and impulsive noise environments.

  • Adaptive array antennas are one of the most promising techniques for improving the capacity of CDMA mobile communication system. In this paper, the uplink and downlink capacity for asynchronous W-CDMA system with adaptive array antenna is analyzed when an angle estimation error is present. From the results, it is found that the capacities are decreased by the angle estimation error. Specifically, when 5 degrees of error is present at 9 element adaptive array, the capacities are found to decrease by 5.2% in the uplink and 11.6% in the downlink. Also, in this paper, an attempt for comparing the capacities on different channel environments has been made. However, it is found that the increase of the Rice factor hardly effects the capacity due to the power control.

  • In this paper, we investigate the performance of asynchronous multiple-chip-rate (MCR)-DS/CDMA systems, where singles are transmitted at different chip rates, processing gains, and transmitted powers according to the required services and their own bit rates. A simplified expression for the improved Gaussian approximation (SEIGA), which is hewn for as a very accurate and simple tool for the performance evaluation, is applied to MCR systems, The correlations between chip waveforms and integrations are utilized instead of correlations between chip sequences which are used in conventional method [6] [7][8], and since this approach makes use of the system model parameter directly, we obtain more direct relationship among system parameters. Simulation results show that the performance of MCR-DS/CDMA systems can be evaluated more accurately by using the proposed procedure than by using the GA.
