Polysulfone membranes were prepared via the phase inversion process. Toluene was added as a nonsolvent additive in the casting solution containing a mixture of polysulfone and n-methylpyrrolidone. When prepared via the diffusion-induced process using isopropanol as a precipitation nonsolvent, the solidified membranes revealed a similar asymmetric structure irrespective of the addition of toluene, presenting both a dense skin layer and a sponge-like support layer. The added toluene played a role of enhancing liquid-liquid phase separation of the casting solution, and skin layer thickness of a prepared membrane increased with toluene content in the casting solution. On membrane performance, the solute rejection showed a uniform behavior irrespective of the addition of toluene. However, in spite of the significant increase in dense skin layer thickness, the water permeation through the membrane prepared with 60 wt% toluene revealed five times as much flux, compared with that of the membrane prepared without toluene additive.
Aneurysm-mimicking findings were frequently visualized due to hemodynamical causes of dephasing effects around area of A-com artery during magnetic resonance angiography(MRA) and these kind of phenomena have not been clearly known yet. We investigated the hemodynamical patterns of dephasing effect around area of the A-com artery that might be a cause of false intracranial aneurysms on MRA. For experimental study, We used hand-made silicon phantoms of the asymmetric A-com artery as like a bifurcation configuration. In a closed circulatory system with UHDC computer driven cardiac pump system. MRA and fast digital subfraction angiography(DSA) involved the use of these phantoms. Flow patterns were evaluated with axial and coronal imaging of MRA(2D-TOF, 3D-TOF) and DSA of Phantoms constructed from an automated closed-type circulatory system filled with glycerol solution [circulation fluid(glycerol:water = 1:1.4)]. These findings were then compared with those obtained from computational fluid dynamic(CFD) for inter-experimental correlation study. Imaging findings of MRA, DSA and CFD on inflow zone according to the following: a) MRA demonstrated high signal intensity zone as inflow zone on silicon phantom; b) Patterns of DSA were well matched with MRA on trajectory of inflow zone; and c) CFD were well matched with MRA on the pattern of main flow. Imaging findings of MRA. DSA and CFD on turbulent flow zone according to the following: a) MRA demonstrated hyposignal intensity zone at shoulder and axillar zone of main inflow; b) DSA delineated prominent vortex flow at the same area. The hemodynamical causes of signal defect, which could Induce the false aneurysm on MRA, turned out to be dephasing effects at axilla area of bifurcation from turbulent flow as the results of MRA, DSA and CFD.
Root gravitropism was investigated in the pea (Pisum sativum L.) mutant ageotropum lacking normal gravitropic response. Exogenous ethylene treatment inhibited gravitropic response in the normal (wild type) pea rook, but had no significant effect to restore the unresponsiveness in the mutant Neither inhibitors of ethylene biosynthesis nor antagonists of ethylene action were able to bring about the development of gravioopic curvature in the ageotropum roots. Auxin action seems to be normal since asymmetric application of agar blocks containing auxin to the mutant roots caused normal gravitropic response to occur. Endogenous as well as auxin-induced ethylene production in tissue segments of the mutant root was about equal to that of the wild type. However no appreciable lateral transport of labeled auxin was observed in glavistimulated mutant roots whereas typical auxin asymetry was apparent in the wild type roots under the same conditions. It is concluded that the mutant has a defect in either gravity perception or its transduction, but not in the effector system involving auxin action.

In this paper, a 2~6 GHz wideband GaN power amplifier MMIC is designed and fabricated using a second-order all-pass filter for input impedance matching and an LC parallel resonant circuit for minimizing an output reactance component of the transistor. The second-order all-pass filter used for wideband lossy matching is modified in an asymmetric configuration to compensate the effect of channel resistance of the GaN transistor. The power amplifier MMIC chip that is fabricated using a $0.25{\mu}m$ GaN HEMT foundry process of Win Semiconductors, Corp. is $2.6mm{\times}1.3mm$ and shows a flat linear gain of about 13 dB and input return loss of larger than 10 dB. Under a saturated power mode, it also shows output power of 38.6~39.8 dBm and a power-added efficiency of 31.3~43.4 % in 2 to 6 GHz.

The currently accepted model of membrane structure proposes a dynamic, asymmetric lipid matrix of phospholipids and cholesterol with globular proteins embedded across the membrane to various degrees. Most phospholipids are in the bilayer arrangement and also closely associated with integral membrane proteins or loosely associated with peripheral proteins. Biological functions of membrane, such as membrane-bound enzyme functions and transport systems, are influenced by the membrane physical properties, which are determined by fatty acid composition of phospholipids, polar head group composition and membrane cholesterol content. Polar and non-polar region of the phospholipid molecule can interact, with changes in the conformation of a membrane-associated protein altering either its catalytic activity or the protein's interaction with other membrane proteins. Mammalian dietary studies attempted to change the lipid composition of a few cell membranes have shown comparisons, using essential fatty acid-deficient diets. In recent years, Clandinin and a few other workers have pioneered the study proving the influence of dietary fat fed in a nutritionally complete diet on composition of phospholipid classes of cell membrane. Modulation caused by diet fat was rapid and reversible in phospholipid fatty acyl composition of membranes of cardiac mitochondria, liver cell, brain synaptosome and lymphocytes. These changes were at the same time, accompanied by variety of membrane associated functions controlled by membrane-bound enzymes, tranporter and receptor proteins. The findings suggest the basic concept of the necessity of dietary fatty acid balance if consistency of optimal membrane structural lipid composition is to be maintained, as well as the overall inadequacy of describing the nutritional-biochemical quality of a dietary fat solely by its content of linoleic acid. Furthermore, they give light on the possible application to clinical and preventive medicine.
Microbial oxidoreductive systems have been widely used in asymmetric syntheses of optically active alcohols. However, when reused in multi-batch reaction, the catalytic efficiency and sustainability of non-growing cells usually decreased because of continuous consumption of required cofactors during the reaction process. A novel method for NADPH regeneration in cells was proposed by using pentose metabolism in microorganisms. Addition of D-xylose, L-arabinose, or D-ribose to the reaction significantly improved the conversion efficiency of deracemization of racemic 1-phenyl-1,2-ethanediol to (S)-isomer by Candida parapsilosis cells already used once, which afforded the product with high optical purity over 97%e.e. in high yield over 85% under an increased substrate concentration of 15 g/l. Compared with reactions without xylose, xylose added to multi-batch reactions had no influence on the activity of the enzyme catalyzing the key step in deracemization, but performed a promoting effect on the recovery of the metabolic activity of the non-growing cells with its consumption in each batch. The detection of activities of xylose reductase and xylitol dehydrogenase from cell-free extract of C. parapsilosis made xylose metabolism feasible in cells, and the depression of the pentose phosphate pathway inhibitor to this reaction further indicated that xylose facilitated the NADPH-required deracemization through the pentose phosphate pathway in C. parapsilosis. moreover, by investigating the cofactor pool, the xylose addition in reaction batches giving more NADPH, compared with those without xylose, suggested that the higher catalytic efficiency and sustainability of C. parapsilosis non-growing cells had resulted from xylose metabolism recycling NADPH for the deracemization.
Purpose: Breast surgeons usually insert tissue expander or implant beneath the subpectoral - subglandular dual plane in breast reconstruction. But sometimes it happens unsatisfactory lower pole fullness, asymmetric inframammary fold and breast shape because there is implant migration due to the pectoralis major muscle contraction and gravity. To solve all the problem like these, we introduce implant breast reconstruction using AlloDerm$^{(R)}$(LifeCell Corp., Branchburg, N.J.) sling. Methods: The AlloDerm$^{(R)}$ sling was used in 13 patients and 18 breasts for implant breast reconstruction. After mastectomy, costal and lower sternal insertion of pectoralis major muscle was detached. Rehydrated AlloDerm$^{(R)}$ was sutured to the chest wall and serratus anterior fascia at the level of inframammary fold downward and to lower border of the pectoralis major muscle upward like crescent shape with tension free technique after implant insertion into the subpectoral - subAlloDerm dual pocket. Results: We make satisfactory lower pole fullness, symmetric inframammary fold and breast shape. In conclusion, patients obtain relatively natural breast shape. There was no complication except one case of capsular contracture and one case of breast cellulitis. Conclusion: Implant breast reconstruction using AlloDerm$^{(R)}$ sling makes easy to get natural breast shape through satisfactory lower pole fullness, symmetric inframammary fold and implant positioning.
Purpose: The pathophysiology of congenital muscular torticollis (CMT) is that the sternoclavicularmastoid (SCM) is shortened on the involved side by fibrosis, leading to an ipsilateral tilt and contralateral rotation of the face and chin. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of physical therapy and develop a mass diameter prediction model for infants with CMT. Methods: Fifty six patients were diagnosed with CMT between April 2003 and December 2008. Infants with neurological complications, and spasmodic and ocular torticollis were excluded. Physical therapy was applied to those masses in the SCM muscles of those infants after checking their physical findings and the diameter of the mass with ultrasonography. Their physical findings and mass diameter was reevaluated when their neck tilt was under $5^{\circ}$. Results: The mean age when physical therapy was started was 35 days. After a mean 90 days of treatment, the subjects showed improvement in the neck tilt. Subjects whose neck tilted above $15^{\circ}$ showed significant improvement in neck tilt decreased their mass diameter (p<0.01). Facial symmetric infants showed a shorter recovery duration than the facial asymmetric infants (p<0.05). A mass decreasing model based on the diameter of the mass, facial symmetry or not and the physical therapy start day after birth was developed by linear regression. Conclusion: Physical therapy is an effective treatment for CMT. The change in the diameter of the mass on the SCM muscles after treatment can be predicted.
In the present study, we investigate the flow characteristics of a quadrotor UAV in a hovering mode by measuring multiple two-dimensional velocity fields in the wake. The experiment is conducted at Re = 24,000 in a chamber large enough to neglect the ground effect, where Re is the Reynolds number based on the rotor chord length and the rotor tip speed. The rotational speed of the rotor is determined by an optical tachometer so that the lift force can be balanced with the weight of the UAV. The velocity field measured on the center plane of the rotor shows that the vortices are shedding from the tip of the rotor, inducing large fluctuations in the streamwise velocity along the wake shear layer. The strength of the rotor-tip vortex shedding is asymmetric with respect to the rotor axis due to the interaction between the rotor and the wake centerline of each rotor is inclined to the center of the UAV due to the pressure difference caused by the induced velocity. The wake from each rotor moves closer to each other while traveling in the streamwise direction, and then is merged together inducing large fluctuations in the transverse velocity. Due to the wake merging, on the center plane of the UAV, the velocity increases in the streamwise direction showing two-peak structure in the streamwise velocity contours.

The effects of sideslip on the vortex over a delta wing was investigated experimentallu at a free strean velocity of 40 m/sec, corresponding to a Reynolds number of 1.76$\times$$10^6$, based on the root chord. The angles of attack ranged from $16{^{\circ}}$ to $28{^{\circ}}$, and the sideslip angles treated were $0{^{\circ}}$, $-10{^{\circ}}$, and $-20{^{\circ}}$. It was observed that the sideslip decreased the strengths of the vortices of both windward and leeward sides of the wing, and promoted the vortex breakdown on the windward side. At sideslip angle of $-10{^{\circ}}$, the vortex strength of leeward side was increased as the angle of attack increased. This asymmetric development and breakdown of vortices in sideslip condition would cause an abrubt change of the rolling moment at a high angle of of attack, which could be considered as a rolling moment instability.
