Integrated-optic symmetric/asymmetric Mach-Zehnder interferometers at $1.3{\mu}m$ wavelength were studied as sensing part for electric-field measurement system. The devices were simulated based on the BPM software and fabricated utilizing Ti-diffused $LiNbO_3$ channel optical waveguides and lumped-type electrodes. A half-wave voltage of $V_{\pi}$=6.6V and modulation depth of 100% and 75% for a symmetric structure were measured for 200Hz and 1kHz electrical signal bandwidth, respectively. By the way, almost half-maximum power transmission was observed for asymmetric interferometers with ${\pi}$/2 intrinsic phase difference. Expected experimental measurements were observed for 1kHz electrical signal bandwidth.

Magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE) magnetometry was used to investigate magnetization reversal dynamics in 30-nm NiFe/15-nm FeMn, 15-nm FeMn/30-nm CoFe bilayers, and 30-nm NiFe/(2,10)-nm FeMn/30-nm CoFe trilayers. The in-plane magnetization components of each ferromagnetic layer, both parallel and perpendicular to the applied field, were separately determined by measuring the longitudinal and transverse MOKE hysteresis loops from both the front and back sides of the film for an oblique incident s-polarized beam. The magnetization of the FeMn/CoFe bilayer was reversed abruptly and symmetrically through nucleation and domain wall propagation, while that of the NiFe/FeMn bilayer was reversed asymmetrically with a dominant rotation. In the NiFe/FeMn/CoFe trilayers, the magnetic reversal of the two ferromagnetic layers proceeded via nucleation and domain wall propagation for 2-nm FeMn, but via asymmetric rotation for 10-nm FeMn. The exchange-biased ferromagnetic layers showed the magnetization reversal along the same path in the film plane for the decreasing and increasing field branches from transverse MOKE hysteresis loops, which can be qualitatively explained by the theoretical model of the exchange-biased ferromagnetic/antiferromagnetic systems.

Double-layered polymer films to assay the radioactive contamination were formulated using polysulfone (PSF) and cerium activated yttrium silicate (CAYS), consisting of a dense support layer and a CAYS-holding top layer prepared via the diffusion-induced phase inversion. As the vapor exposure process was omitted, the CAYS-holding layer showed a typical asymmetric structure, with CAYS being transfixed into the polymer network spread with large macropores. With the increase in vapor exposure time before immersion, morphology of the films transformed from asymmetric to sponge-like structures, with CAYS being localized in cellular structure. The border structure between the two layers reflects the phase inversion behavior of a cast solution during the coagulation. In the radioactive detection, the polymer phase in a film holding a sponge-like structure is so dense that the radionuclides, deposited on the film, could not filter through the phase, consequently resulting in the loss in the detection efficiency of the film.

We analyze the economic effects of mobile termination rate asymmetry by simulation model. The asymmetry allows the mobile operator to get access profits at the expense of the incumbent and induces negative effects such as the entry of inefficient operator and allocative efficiency as well as productive efficiency. We use simulation model to investigate the effect on social welfare of asymmetric regulation. If the brand loyalty is high, social welfare increase as the termination charge of entrant increases. The extension of the basic model shows that the degree of social welfare increase becomes higher as the brand loyalty increases when the cost of entrant is smaller than that of incumbent. But, the degree of social welfare decrease becomes lower as the substitution effects increase.

In this paper, the ductile fracture criteria for a marine structural steel (EH36) are presented and validated. The theoretical background of the recently developed Hosford-Coulomb (HC) fracture strain model and the DSSE fracture strain model which was developed to apply to the shell elements is described. In order to accurately estimate the flow stress in the large strain range up to the fracture, the material constants for the combined Swift-Voce constitutive equation were derived by the numerical analyses of the smooth and notched specimens made from the EH36 steel. As a result of applying the Swift-Voce flow stress to the other notched specimen model, a very accurate load - displacement curve could be derived. The material constants of the HC fracture strain and DSSE fracture strain models were independently calibrated based on the numerical analyses for the smooth and notch specimen tests. The user subroutine (VUMAT of Abaqus) was developed to verify the accuracy of the combined HC-DSSE fracture strain model. An asymmetric notch specimen was used as verification model. It was confirmed that the fracture of the asymmetric specimen can be accurately predicted when a very small solid elements are used together with the HC fracture strain model. On the other hand, the combined HC-DSSE fracture strain model can predict accurately the fracture of shell element model while the shell element size effect becomes less sensitive.
We present a new method which constructs an Hɪ super-profile of a galaxy which is based on profile decomposition analysis. The decomposed velocity profiles of an Hɪ data cube with an optimal number of Gaussian components are co-added after being aligned in velocity with respect to their centroid velocities. This is compared to the previous approach where no prior profile decomposition is made for the velocity profiles being stacked. The S/N improved super-profile is useful for deriving the galaxy's global Hɪ properties like velocity dispersion and mass from observations which do not provide sufficient surface brightness sensitivity for the galaxy. As a practical test, we apply our new method to 64 high-resolution Hɪ data cubes of nearby galaxies in the local Universe which are taken from THINGS and LITTLE THINGS. In addition, we also construct two additional Hɪ super-profiles of the sample galaxies using symmetric and all velocity profiles of the cubes whose centroid velocities are determined from Hermite h3 polynomial fitting, respectively. We find that the Hɪ super-profiles constructed using the new method have narrower cores and broader wings in shape than the other two super-profiles. This is mainly due to the effect of either asymmetric velocity profiles' central velocity bias or the removal of asymmetric velocity profiles in the previous methods on the resulting Hɪ super-profiles. We discuss how the shapes (𝜎n/𝜎b, An/Ab, and An/Atot) of the new Hɪ super-profiles which are measured from a double Gaussian fit are correlated with star formation rates of the sample galaxies and are compared with those of the other two super-profiles.
The main objective of this study is to analyze problems of the Country of Origin Labeling(COOL) in small live fish(SLF) trade by applying the asymmetric information theory which is called ${\ulcorner}$Lemon Market Theory${\lrcorner}$. The purpose of importing SLF is to enhance fishing household income and import substitution effect as well. SLF importation is quite different in its nature from importing general fish and fish products for final/direct consumption. SLF are imported for the purpose of domestic aquaculture and naturalization where domestic production/supply of SLF is less than domestic demand for or such species are not native to Korean waters. Information asymmetric problems arise even in SLF trade as the same way in general goods and services. However, the information asymmetry issues in SLF trade are much more complex than non-living goods because SLF are traded in the live state. To alleviate such problems the Korean government initiated the general COOL scheme to imported SLF. However, many experts argues that such policy on SLF would not be appropriate because of SLF's very nature. Applying the lemon market theory, we can analyze how information discovery schemes are able to signal correct information to SLF trading parties and to result in more symmetric information in SLF trade markets. This research carried out a case study about small live eel(SLF) trade and its farming. The results showed that applying the COOL to small live eels just right upon coming into fish farms tends to increase substantially fish farmer's income and at the same time to lower unnecessary transaction costs. In particular, such transaction costs by imposing simply the general COOL on SLF may easily outweigh its benefits. For instance, to resolve the problems, the Korean ministry of agriculture and forestry(KMAF) has developed a quite different COOL rules from the general ones and has applied them to imported live cattle and medium/small livestocks. The KMAF's differentiated COOL policy on some imported livestocks may be a good case which can be applied to imported SLF. In addition to the differentiated COOL on SLF, Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) and traceability system would play crucial complementary roles in alleviating information asymmetry problems in SLF trade. Advanced fisheries tend to strengthen their SPS system rather than to adopt the general comprehensive COOL schemes into imported SLF trades and domestic market exchanges.
Although the patient's problem with access to health information has been improved due to rapidly developing information technologies, such as the internet, some patients still do not have enough ability to understand, interpret, and analyze the health information. Given this view on the patient's asymmetric information problem, if a doctor provides sufficient effort to help patients understand and interpret medical information, the efficiency of patient's medical care use could be improved. This paper shows firstly that the patient's inefficient use of medical care originates from his information problems, such as the misperception of the effectiveness of medical care and secondly suggests that if the doctor makes sufficient effort to correct patient's information problems, the inefficiency can be ameliorated. This paper also suggests the manipulation of a doctor's payment method can lead a doctor to provide optimal level of efforts which can in turn lead patients to use the optimal level of medical care. With an optimal level of effort, a doctor can more easily achieve a patient's compliance with the newly recommended amount of medical care.

This paper presents a capacitor loaded tunable bandpass chip filter using multiple split ring resonators (MSRRs) with two transmission zeros. To obtain high selectivity and minimize the chip size, asymmetric feed lines are adopted to make a pair of transmission zeros located on each side of passband. Compared with conventional filters using cross-coupling or source-load coupling techniques, the proposed filter uses only two resonators to achieve high selectivity through a pair of transmission zeros. In order to optimize selectivity and sensitivity (insertion loss) of the filter, the effect of the position of asymmetric feed line on transmission zeros and insertion loss is analyzed. The SOI-CMOS switched capacitor composed of metal-insulator-metal (MIM) capacitor and stacked-FETs is loaded at outer rings of MSRRs to tune passband frequency and handle high power signal up to +30 dBm. By turning on or off the gate of the transistors, the passband frequency can be shifted from 4GH to 5GHz. The proposed on-chip filter is implemented in 0.18-${\mu}m$ SOI CMOS technology that makes it possible to integrate high-Q passive devices and stacked-FETs. The designed filter shows miniaturized size of only $4mm{\times}2mm$ (i.e., $0.177{\lambda}g{\times}0.088{\lambda}g$), where ${\lambda}g$ denotes the guided wave length of the $50{\Omega}$ microstrip line at center frequency. The measured insertion loss (S21)is about 5.1dB and 6.9dB at 5.4GHz and 4.5GHz, respectively. The designed filter shows out-of-band rejection greater than 20dB at 500MHz offset from center frequency.
This paper aims at measuring how new information is incorporated into volatility estimates. Various GARCH models are compared and estimated with daily BDI(Baltic Dry Index) data. While most researchers agree that volatility is predictable, they differ on how this volatility predictability should be modelled. This study, hence, introduces the asymmetric or leverage volatility models, in which good news and bad news have different predictability for future. We provide the systematic comparison of volatility models focusing on the asymmetric effect of news on volatility. Specifically, three diagnostic tests are provided: the sign bias test, the negative size bias test, and the positive size bias test. From the Ljung-Box test statistic for twelfth-order serial correlation for the level we do not find any significant serial correlation in the unpredictable BDI. The coefficients of skewness and kurtosis both indicate that the unpredictable BDI has a distribution which is skewed to the left and significantly flat tailed. Furthermore, the Ljung-Box test statistic for twelfth-order serial correlations in the squares strongly suggests the presence of time-varying volatility. The sign bias test, the negative size bias test, and the positive size bias test strongly indicate that large positive(negative) BDI shocks cause more volatility than small ones. This paper, also, shows that three leverage models have problems in capturing the correct impact of news on volatility and that negative shocks do not cause higher volatility than positive shocks. Specifically, the GARCH model successfully reveals the shape of the news impact curve and is a useful approach to modeling conditional heteroscedasticity of daily BDI.
