  • Modern communication systems employ wideband antennas with circular polarization (CP) radiation. In this work, asymmetric modified bow-tie (ABT) and symmetric modified bow-tie (SBT) slotted circularly polarized single-point probe-fed circular patch antennas with dimensions of $40mm{\times}40mm$ for wideband applications are proposed. A 10 dB RL bandwidth of 350 MHz with CP, 3 dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth of 100 MHz, peak gain of 4.9 dBic, and 10 dB RL bandwidth of 530 MHz with CP, 3 dB AR bandwidth of 140 MHz, peak gain of 5 dBic are obtained for ABT and SBT slotted circular patch antennas, respectively. The proposed SBT slotted patch is scaled up and down to $50mm{\times}50mm$ and $30mm{\times}30mm$, respectively. The proposed scaled-up version offers 10 dB RL and 3 dB AR bandwidths of 340 MHz and 80 MHz, with a peak gain of 5 dBic. The scaled-down version offers 10 dB RL and 3 dB AR bandwidths of 710 MHz and 180 MHz, with a peak gain of 5.25 dBic. These prototypes are suitable to work in IEEE 802.11a WLAN, ISM, and IEEE 802.11ac applications. The measured and simulated results are then discussed and compared.

  • In this paper, using the bargaining game theory, we propose a bandwidth management scheme that allocates bandwidth in an efficient and proportionally fair manner between the service classes with different service requirements. Since the traffic input rates of the classes are asymmetric in most of the time, the proposed scheme allocates bandwidth in proportion to the traffic input rates to increase the bandwidth utilization while protecting the quality of service of a class against the excessive traffic input of the other classes. In addition, the proposed method considers the weights of classes so that the bandwidth is allocated differentially among the classes.

  • Recently, a brain imaging system with microwave devices has been proposed. The brain imaging system requires a small antenna which has ultra wide band(UWB) operating frequency bandwidth(0.5~2 GHz) and non-varying boresight of antenna over the frequency band. This paper proposes asymmetric corrugations on a tapered slot antenna (TSA) so that the size of the TSA is reduced by 14 % while 10 dB return loss bandwidth is satisfied over the operating frequency band from 0.5 GHz to 2 GHz. A miniaturized TSA with symmetric corrugations shows tilted boresight whilst frequency is getting lower; however, the proposed TSA with asymmetric corrugations maintains direction of boresight for different frequencies. This enhancements make an asymmetric corrugated TSA meet the requirement of the brain imaing system.

  • The printed wide band monopole antenna having characteristics of dipole by modified coplanar wave guide(CPW) ground plane is presented. We are called a slot-arm printed monopole antenna and investigated the effect of the surface currents of the radiator on ground plane. The proposed antenna is treated as two asymmetric dipoles with the included angle of $90^{\circ}$ degrees which lie along Z-direction symmetrically. It is observed that the effect of the surface currents on the radiation patterns is similar to that of the corresponding dipole. The length and width of the ground plane correspond the radius and length of the dipole respectively. This approach is also valid to general printed monopole antennas. The simulation impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna the range of 2.4 to 4.6 [GHz] for a voltage stand wave ratio (VSWR)${\leq}$2 and got pick gain of 6 [dBi]. So the proposed antenna is satisfied the requirement of the industry science medical (ISM) band operation.

  • This study presents the design of a Wilkinson power divider for three-way output ports (WPD3OP), which incorporates a defected ground structure (DGS). An asymmetric power divider is integrated into the output ports of the conventional Wilkinson power divider (WPD), establishing a three-way output port configuration. The DGS introduces periodic or irregular patterns into the ground plane to suppress unwanted electromagnetic wave propagation, and its incorporation can enhance the performance of the power divider, in terms of the power-division ratio, isolation, and bandwidth, by reducing spurious resonances. The proposed design algorithm for an asymmetric power divider for three-way output ports is analyzed via circuit simulations using High-Frequency Simulation Software (HFSS). The results verify the validity of the proposed method. The analysis of the WPD3OP integrated with DGS certifies the achievement of a center frequency of 2 GHz. This confirmation is supported by schematic ideal design simulation results and measurements encompassing insertion losses, return losses, and isolation.

  • The complex modal testing methods developed for asymmetric rotors are briefly discussed and their performances are experimentally evaluated. For the experiments, a laboratory test rotor is excited by using a newly developed, cost effective magnetic exciter equipped with Hall sensors, which measure the excitation forces. It is concluded that the exciter system is characterized by a wide bandwidth and a high resolution for both the excitation and force measurement, and that the one-exciter/two-sensor technique for complex modal testing of asymmetric rotors is superior to the standard two-exciter/two-sensor technique in terms of practicality and realization.

  • The tremendous increase in mobile data traffic coupled with fierce competition in wireless industry brings about spectrum scarcity and bandwidth fragmentation. This inevitably results in asymmetric-valued long term evolution (LTE) spectrum allocation that stems from different timing for twice improvement in capacity between competing operators, given spectrum allocations today. This motivates us to study the economic effects of asymmetric-valued LTE spectrum allocation. In this paper, we formulate the interactions between operators and users as a hierarchical dynamic game framework, where two spiteful operators simultaneously make spectrum acquisition decisions in the upper-level first-price sealed-bid auction game, and dynamic pricing decisions in the lower-level differential game, taking into account user subscription dynamics. Using backward induction, we derive the equilibrium of the entire game under mild conditions. Through analytical and numerical results, we verify our studies by comparing the latest result of LTE spectrum auction in South Korea, which serves as the benchmark of asymmetric-valued LTE spectrum auction designs.

  • In an asymmetrical speed channel environment like asymmetric digital subscriber line, the up-link bandwidth is normally smaller than the down-link bandwidth, which will lead to extremely low utilization of down-link bandwidth when current P2P video transmission is applied. To overcome this, a new fast P2P video transmission method applied in an asymmetrical speed channel environment is proposed in this paper. On the basis of the many-to-one concept, the proposed method uses a new multipeer aggregation technique to enhance the utilization of down-link bandwidth. In addition, an adaptive peer assignment algorithm is also introduced in order to minimize the overall transmission time. Experimental results show that by using our proposed method, the utilization of down-link bandwidth is significantly improved, and the overall transmission time is greatly reduced.

  • In this paper, we present an efficient centralized dynamic bandwidth allocation scheme with multicasting for asymmetric 10G-Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (10G-EPONs). The proposed scheme is based on multicast-burst polling and provides quality of service (QoS) with class of service (CoS) to different lasses of packets. It is shown that a well-known conventional interleaved polling scheme severely decreases downstream channel capacity for user traffic when the upstream network load is low (avalanche gate frequency). To overcome this problem, we have proposed a multicast burst polling scheme which shows impressively lower downstream bandwidth consumption compare to IPACT and moreover it did not show the light load penalty problem. Simulation results using an OPNET tool show that the multicast burst polling effectively eliminates light-load penalty and minimizes downstream bandwidth consumption under avalanche gate frequencies.
