  • Ethiopia becomes a leading country in Africa as she possesses two 1 m telescopes which are unique in East Africa. Building the telescopes evoked people's interest on Astronomy and Space, and the passion is continued to space development and founding a large telescope. Ethiopia Space Science and Technology Institute was established, Adama Science and Technology University and other universities get in education and research & development (ERD). In this paper, status of Astronomy and Space science in Ethiopia is reviewed and collaboration prospect is studied.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the astronomy-related concepts formed by elementary school pre-service teachers and analyze the distribution of misconceptions. The study was conducted on 43 pre-service teachers enrolled in the second year of an elementary teacher training college located in the central region of Korea. As a result of the study, first, pre-service elementary school teachers' misconceptions about astronomy concepts showed a diverse distribution. In particular, pre-service elementary school teachers still had misconceptions regarding seasonal changes, which were pointed out in many previous studies. Second, pre-service elementary school teachers had formed concepts at the level of simple memorization of astronomy concepts and were having difficulty applying the concepts they knew to various cases. Based on these research results, future astronomy-related education should be directed toward understanding astronomical phenomena through the application and application of various cases rather than simple memorization, and astronomy education in teacher training courses and teacher training should also reflect this content.

  • In recent years, astronomy has been snowballing: including Higgs particle discovery, black hole imaging, extraterrestrial exploration, and deep space observation. Students are also largely interested in astronomy. The purpose of this study is to discover what needs to be improved in the current astronomy curriculum in light of recent scientists' researches and discoveries. We collected keywords from all papers published from 2011 to 2020 in four selected journals-ApJ, ApJL, A&A, and MNRAS- by R package to examine research trends. The curriculum contents were extracted by synthesizing the in-service teachers' coding results in the 2015 revised curriculum document of six subjects (Science, Integrated Science, Earth Science I, Earth Science II, Physics II, Convergence Science). The research results are as follows: first, keywords that appear steadily in astronomy are 'galaxies: formation, galaxy: active, star: formation, accretion, method: numerical.' Second, astronomy curriculum includes all areas except the 'High Energy Astrophysical Phenomena' area within the common science curriculum learned by all students. Third, it is necessary to review the placement of content elements by subject and grade and to consider introducing new concepts based on astronomy research keywords. This is an exploratory study to compare curriculum and the field of scientific research that forms the basis of the subject. We expect to provide implications for a future revision of the astronomy curriculum as a primary ground investigation.

  • This survey investigated elementary school teachers' Astronomical Spatial Concept and their Attitudes about Astronomy for Effectively Teaching Strategy. This study surveyed 53 teachers in Ulsan. The data were statistically analyzed by SPSS WIN 18.0. The results of this study are as follows : First, Elementary school teachers' level of understanding of the concept of astronomical space, usually lower. In particular, the lower the level of understanding of the concept of spatial location. Second, Elementary teachers' attitudes about astronomy, astronomers generally appreciate the value of the information and guidance, but difficult for astronomers had recognized. Third, the concept of space and astronomy astronomical elementary teacher attitudes about sex and there was no significant difference according to the teaching career. Therefore, in order to develop effective teaching strategies for elementary teachers attitudes about astronomy and astronomical space concepts from their spatial position to increase the understanding of astronomy, often on the job training to strengthen the astronomers should eliminate the difficulties.

  • Gwansanggam(觀象監) was a royal office in the Joseon(朝鮮) dynasty, which was in charge of astronomy(天文), geographical feature(地理), calendar-making(曆數), fortune telling(占算), meteorological observation(測候), and so forth. The royal office consisted of three divisions according to the studies (學): Astronomy(天文學), Geography(地理學), and Astrology(命課學). Among them, the Astronomy division carried out the works corresponding partly with academic fields of Earth Science nowaday. In this paper, we investigate the organization and the examination system of Gwansanggam focusing on the Astronomy division. Because Gwansanggam was one of royal offices, the organization, functions, and the rules of the government service examination(科擧試驗) were stipulated in codes published during the period of the Joseon dynasty. From various codes, official books, and records of Sillok(實錄), we firstly find that the scale of Gwansanggam in the number of officials was larger than the known one because the number of petty officials (胥吏), slaves, and artisans (匠人) were neglected in previous studies. Next, we conduct research on the textbooks used in the government service examination of Gwansanggam, particularly of the Astronomy division. Despite of the shortness in contents, we estimate that this is the first systematic attempt to the study on the examination textbooks of Gwansanggam. Finally, we also make some introductions on the regulations applied to the government service examinations of the offices belonging to manual rites (禮典) including Gwansanggam.
