  • This paper presents a methodology of developing reservoir operating rules which can consider the reliability levels incorporated with the discharge policy. The operating rules were derived based on the regression and risk analysis of the optimally operated results by using the long term historical and generated reservoir inflows. The methodology was applied to the operation of the Chungju reservoir system which is consisted of two reservoirs and powerplants, and monthly operation rules were developed. Simulations were performed by using the developed operating rules can not only significantly improve the output from the existing system but also improve the reliability incorporated with the output.

  • This research examined children's perception of parental authority within three different types of rules : moral, social-conventional, and personal issue. Specifically, two major aspects of parental authority-legitimacy and obedience-were explored. The subjects of this study were 120 children from an elementary school in Kwangju. There were 40 subjects (20 males and 20 females) in each of three age groups: 7-, 9-, and 11- year-olds. The subjects were administered an interview individually. Based on Tisak (1986) open-ended questions concerning three family rules (moral rule, social-conventional rule, personal issue) were administered. Responses to the assessment questions were coded as positive or negative. Responses to the judgment conception questions were coded into 7 categories : Other's Walfare, Social Coordination, Personal choice, Deservedness of Punishment for Wrongdoing, Existence of Authority, Conflicting Personal Interest and Authority, and Personal Development. Statistical analysis of obtained data was by percentage and ${\chi}_2$ test using log linear procedure. The results were as follows : (1) There was a significant main effect of type of rule on the children's assessment regarding legitimacy and obedience of parental authority. The children (average 96%) stated that it was all right for parents to make rules prohiliting an act when it pertained to moral and social conventions. However, the majority of the children (average 40%) stated that it was not right for parents to regulate personal issues. (2) There was a significant interaction effect between type of rule and age. (3) There was a significant main effect of rules on the children's judgment conception of parental authority. (4) There was a significant interaction effect between rules and ages on children's judgment conception of parental authority.

  • Recently, the Trump administration initiated a new United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) that strengthened NAFTA's rules of origin to enhance protectionism while maintaining the framework of trade agreements rather than completely abolishing them. This study focuses on the behavior of firms motivated to influence the government to practice protectionist trade by analyzing the rules of origin verification and adopting the political economics model. This paper explains the process of endogenous determination of the stringency of rules of origin verification as a non-tariff barrier using the lobbying model. Comparative static analysis shows that the more efficient technology a domestic firm has and the more government prefers to raise political contribution, the more is verification likely to be strict. This suggests that a rationale exists to maintain a free trade agreement in the form of the new agreement (USMCA) without abolishing the current NAFTA regime.

  • As Korea's steel industry exports 38 percent of its total steel production, the future management environment of the steel industry will change depending on the outcome of the FTA negotiations. The overall industrial structure of the domestic steel industry depends on the rules of origin, which are directly linked to the effect of concessionary tariffs. Therefore, negotiations on rules of origin are as important as tariff liberalization for Korea's steel industry. Korea's cold-rolled and plated companies are expected to be negatively affected as the country of origin standards of steel products have not considered the steel production processes in Korea. In future FTA talks, the country of origin rules should be agreed on a change of tariff classification basis. This result would secure a stable export market through increased predictability of steelmakers and reduce the risk of increased costs of oil and intangible products. In addition, the government should consider the structure of domestic supply and demand so that it does not impose constraints on the change of tariff classification. Finally, participants in the negotiations should consider the opinions of the domestic steel industry.

  • In reality, there are numerous [Note: I advise to change the tone to being more certain, as opposed to offering a possibility. You need to emphasize the seriousness of the conditions that your study wants to talk about] non-tariff trade barriers under free trade agreements, with various stakeholders having different trade-off interests. This study focuses on the rules of origin verification and considers cases in which domestic firms, foreign firms, and domestic consumer groups compete politically for their rent protection in the domestic market. As in Gwande et al. (2006), cross-border lobbies are considered possible wherein foreign firms also lobby the government to influence the decision-making process of how stringently to verify the rules of origin. [Note: Starting here, switch to past tense because a: study intentions above can be in present tense, b: study procedures should be in past tense] In this study, we assumed that all stakeholders form interest groups and present political contributions to the government based on their interests. The stringency of the rules of origin verification was then determined through this political process, and we compared this to a socially optimal one in the analysis. It was found that the verification was less stringent when there was cross-border lobbying than the socially optimal one.

  • Purpose - This paper has an objective to suggest reasonable criteria in choosing Incoterms 2020 rules for efficient and effective logistics management in that the Incoterms rules affect not only the rights and obligations of the parties to the sales contract but also the control and management of logistics system and transaction costs in the transaction. Design/methodology - An analysis of the various factors is needed to assess the positive or negative impact on global value chain in choosing Incoterms rules from a total logistics view. This study analyzes the impact of which the content of individual incoterms rules can have on the operation of international logistics systems under the global value chain from a strategic perspective to suggest reasonable criteria for selection of Incoterms rules depending on the transaction situation. Findings - Results of this study shows that consideration of various aspects which includes the characteristics of the products, logistics capabilities, infrastructure, transaction volume, operational cost, customs regulations, tax and accounting should be reflected in choosing the appropriate Incoterms rules. Therefore, in order to minimize the total cost and improve logistics performance, it may be helpful to develop a decision support model which allows users to select appropriate Incoterms rules based on various influencing factors. Originality/value - This Study is different from previous research which has mainly focused on the rights and obligations of the parties to the transaction regarding the transfer of risks and costs under the Incoterms. In addition, this study has significance in that it provides implications for export and import companies that can be able to use Incoterms as a strategic tool to efficiently manage the global value chain and improve supply chain performance.

  • This study identifies communication patterns of groups using Internet Messenger for their group decision-making, and examines how these patterns are associated with creative solutions to problems. Our research suggests that certain communication behavior of groups, when appropriately organized, can be of help in enhancing creative production of outcomes. A qualitative study was conducted on communication patterns based on an analysis of text-based electronic conversation protocols. Specifically this research tried to overcome existing studies on electronic groups by focusing on interactive process of communication among participants. The major study conclusions are: (1) The production of creative outcome may depend on the process or sequence of discussion among group members with Internet Messenger. That is, proper interactive responses and appropriate control of the discussion process are essential to obtain a high level of performance. (2) It is important to make discuss rules based on meta-cognitive and interactive protocols in the early stage. Explicit rules relating to internal group processes as well as communication medium use are even more important to groups with Internet Messenger than face-to-face groups.

  • As many applications are possible now in mobile environment with the trend of mobile convergence, diverse applications in healthcare industry are also possible in mobile devices. Though lots of researches on mobile and health services are introduced, they are limited to specific area or techniques. This study shows possible directions of fusion between mobile technologies and health services in the future using a data mining technique called association rule analysis. The data used in this study is collected from web pages containing key words related to mobile technologies and health services. The analysis shows that current cases of fusion between monitoring based telemedicine and patients. It also shows another case of fusion between mobile hospital and medical screen charts. These show that fusion between mobile technologies and health services already began in industry. Association rules are found between well-being, city, diet, and sleep. The association rules containing security and privacy, though their associations are not so strong, also show that security and privacy of patient information should be protected in the future. The results show that the fusion of mobile technologies and health services is expected to provide health services to more users and larger areas. It is also expected to create new diverse business models in the future.

  • Quantitative association rules apply a binary association to the data which have the relatively strong quantitative attributions in a large database system. When a domain range of quantitative data which involve the significant meanings for the association is too broad, a domain requires to be divided into a proper interval which satisfies the minimum support for the generation of large interval items. The reliability of formulated rules is enormously influenced by the generation of large interval items. Therefore, this paper proposes a new method to efficiently generate the large interval items. The proposed method does not lose any meaningful intervals compared to other existing methods, provides the accurate large interval items which are close to the minimum support, and minimizes the loss of characteristics of data. In addition, since our method merges data where the frequency of data is high enough, it provides the fast run time compared with other methods for the broad quantitative domain. To verify the superiority of proposed method, the real national census data are used for the performance analysis and a Clunix HPC system is used for the parallel processing.
